norlin looks a lot different than several decades ago!

hawkins told cj that hansen is the starter but they may do some things with cody. but, he said it is no different than trying to always have your backup qb ready. he was really trying to put the fire out on this issue.

other than that part, it was all the same stuff, with a heavy dose of "the folks outside the program don't get it" mixed in.

Do you get the impression this guy is the biggest BS artist around. He did not have a backup QB to have ready until the KU game. He had Hansen and Evans redshirting and only true Frosh walkons as his backup play. Cody will play and it will be for more than one series.

I have always been critical of Hawkins but this week he has pushed me to having a tough time even standing him...I really want him gone.

I'm trying to imagine the scenario which resulted in you knowing what Norlin once looked like.

You are way over the top on this. The coaching staff miscalculated. They went into the season feeling that Cody would get the job done. It was a bad miscalculation because, by trying to preserve Hansen's RS, they painted themselves into a corner. If they had not been trying to preserve Hansen's RS, Cody probaly would have been yanked as early as the second half of the CSU game. So, now things have changed. The now do have a backup. I don't get why you folks can't grasp that if Tyler is struggling, say he throws 3 ints in the first half, that Cody wouldn't go in?

fwiw, that's basically what hawk and cj said on the show. hawk pretended to not understand all the hoopla he caused by his apparent backtracking on his original assertion that tyler is the starter. i don't know what to make of it. i just hope they give tyler the same kind of chance they gave cody.

i will say one thing from the interview that made me chuckle--- hawkins said he is HARDER on cody than he would be if he weren't his kid. he said he wasn't sure he would have yanked either tyler or bernard after the INT but that because it was cody, he pulled him. that really did strike me as spin.

And I can't grasp why anyone wants to see Cody back in the game for any reason short of injury. We've had 2.5 years to see what he has and it's not enough to get it done at this level.

Well, we know that the team cannot get it done with Cody at the helm. So, I have no clue why the coaching staff would put him back in if Hansen struggles. I also do not get saying Cody needs to stay in practice to be ready as a backup. He has 2 1/2 years of game experience. Getting one or two series is not going to get him ready for anything.

Long and short, if Hansen cannot get it done, then it's time to move on to a true freshman and build for the future. If you are just going to throw the rest of the year away, you might as well do it with Hansen and let him get experience for next year. Unless Hansen gets hurt, I see no good reason to put Cody back in.

I don't think he has to automatically give Hansen the rest of the season, but I would like to see TH get at least 3 or 4 games of unconditional support. That's what Cody got, after all.....

My dad coached me in youth football, and its true. Dad was way harder on his son than on the rest of the kids.

I think Tyler will be the guy. But, often, if a QB is struggling, it is a good thing to pull him, for instance, for a series to let him kind of calm down and pull it together. Also to give the coaches a chance to point things out. I don't get how so many people think this is some huge Hawkins conspiracy theory.

Honestly, I've never bought into the nepotism claim nor do I feel there is some conspiracy going on. I just don't see an upside to putting Cody back in. I understand what you are saying but this logic hasn't seemed to apply to this coaching staff up to this point. Why start now?

I agree with you, btw. I think it's Tyler's team now for good or bad.

Yep, I can relate to that DBT. My dad coached my Pop Warner teams too (Roseville Bobcats). He was harder on me than the other kids for sure. He went out of his way to make it obvious. I was a starter almost every game - offense, defense, and special teams. I earned those spots and am absolutely positive none of the other kids or parents thought there was any nepotism going on.... They just wished I wouldn't go "full speed" and hit so damned hard during our practices :smile2:.... I never could learn how to kick that **** down a notch, even if they were my own team mates.

Why wasn't this ever done to Cody?

Why wasn't this ever done to Cody?

Excellent question !

Thats my point! Why all the sudden are we worried about a backup QB situation? We played without one for 4.5 games.
Well, like I said. The coaches miscalculated. They decided, and Tyler wanted, to give TH a RS year. That backed them into a corner with, really, no backup. I'd suspect if they weren't trying to protect TH's red shirt, he would have come in earlier.

I don't believe the "Tyler wanted a redshirt" BS for a second. Every single player wants to PLAY, not sit on the sidelines. The coaches wanted him to RS and he went along.

I can't tell if your euphemism is referring to a vagina, mouth or butt. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Oh, for the record, chicks still have those "thingies".

Things were different in the leather helmets days DBT...:smile2:

It's pretty simple really. Eihter (a) CH was/is getting preferential treatment (given that he has had such poor showings, I understand this view) or (b) CH really is the best QB which means QB recruitng and development has been an unmitigated disaster under this staff. There is no (c).

EIther way, over the next few weeks...we'll see.

Why? Cody has thrown picks for 3 years and he got pulled once. Hansen deserves his time. Cody gets 3 years hansen gets 3 picks?

We are 14-28 but you think hawk has everything in place and every decision he makes is right and should never be questioned. Facts prove otherwise.

Hansen has always been the backup despite the redshirt. He was getting reps as the backup in practice and TH would have gone in if there was a serious injury to CH that would have kept him out of a game. The Frosh backups were there for 1-2 plays only just to hand the ball of if needed to save THs RS. However, the downside to this, the decision to pull CH was drug out to avoid pulling the RS from TH which is why this was a bad decision to begin with...good in theory but not very well thought out.

Quit using reason. It's not allowed here.

if you need clarification, you are clearly long-time married, like me.

Doesn't strike me as spin. I was coached by my father I KNOW for a fact I sat the bench more than once for mistakes that others were not sat down for.

NO he didn't. The only reason Cody wasn't yanked sooner was because they were tyring to preserve Hansens RS. That is the only reason. I agree with DBT why is that so hard to understand.

Another reason was that he was involved in the fight.

:iagree:

Was Cody not pulled last year for just this reason? Why does everyone want to overlook that we were trying to RS Hansen this year. That was one of the goals for this staff.

Sorry, hansen should get his time. If has makes mistakes so be it. You can't come out, say your going to redshirt him and then yank him if he makes some mistakes.

If they were so set on redshiorting hansen, why didn't they have a back-up ready?

Hawk continues to make it up as he goes along but you and dbt believe evrything he says and does is greatness.
