I'm not like most of you. I go back and forth on this deal. Frankly, I want Hawkins to succeed. On the other hand, I don't see evidence that he will. But the best thing for CU is that he does. But he doesn't look like he will. But he really has a lot of great, young talent that he recruited. And he has had success everywhere he's been. But he painted over Mac's quote. But all the former Buffs hate him. Even though he has a lot of charisma. And maybe there is evidence. We looked way better against WVU and UT. We beat KU. But we sucked against kstate, who we should have beaten.

:huh::wow::confused:

I agree with 100% of what you said there. Both sides. I think the difference is that you are still holding on to that hope, still think that there is a chance Hawk can turn things around. That would absolutely be the best thing for everybody. But most of us, as much as we might want that to happen, simply have accepted that it isn't going to. Accepted that if he hasn't shown any indication of that ability in 3 and a half years here, it simply isn't in him to build a winner at this level... :huh:

Frankly, I listened to Pez on Klatt's show, and it really pissed me off. Pez basically threw the players under the bus. "I see no effort" "They don't compete" "No improvement" blah, blah, blah. Well, as pissed as I am, none of that **** is true either.

Yep, spot on DBT. I would love to see Hawk prove me wrong and shove win after win down my throat. I would gladly eat crow. I just don't see it though. I think this program is on a current downward spiral, and he does so many things that everybody but him can see are wrong. Very sad. The only good news is no matter what, good days do lie ahead for Colorado.

That would piss me off too. I agree with it in certain cases - the effort on the road has seemed questionable at times, some players actually seem to regress, not improve, etc. But I have a problem with people saying the players aren't trying because of Hawk, or that we're losing because the players just aren't good enough. It's not fair to the team to make this all about the players. And to be fair, it's also not fair to the coaches to say that none of it is about the players...

You've both summed up my feelings much more eloquently than I. :thumbsup:

It's my superior education.... :smile2::smile2:

I don't even think he's particularly charismatic anymore, but maybe all the losing has just warped my perception of him.

He's certainly not a great communicator. He speaks in platitudes and generalities. He uses a lot of non-specific words like "this" and "that" and "thing". Frankly it's like having someone like me sitting up there......and I are an engineer. :huh:

What I read:

:blah: :blah: :blah:

:devil2:

Not to threadjack here, but, you'll remember Junc---Marques Harris from GJ--what did he get in trouble for at CU and where did he transfer?? Didnt we play them? I cant remember for the life of me.

Back on topic. Really, I think this team is close. I just don't get the kstate game. My perception really is that this team is close to being good. But when I see an effort like last week, I question the coaching. I'm not as convinced as most as far as Hawk goes. But last week made me want to see him forget his parachute or get in a shark feeding fenzie or fall off Machu Pichu. :wow:

I But he painted over Mac's quote.
:huh::wow::confused:

Did he?

I think we've established that it's gone, but there was a major remodel of the locker room. Was it really Hawkins' decision to remove a quotation, or did this happen by some interior designers' viewpoint?

If somebody knows, okay, but I hate to see Hawkins blamed for every little thing ... With his friendship with Mac it just seems like there might be more or less to this story, not an intentional erasure of tradition.

Yeah, and I was making fun of signs yesterday, but I started wondering.

That is very, very fair. Who really knows? It could have just been an oversight by whoever was managing the remodeling effort. Probably not fair to blame Hawk wihout knowing more. As a matter of fact, I'd expect some sort of CU release or Plati thing setting the record straight. I actually kind of kicked myself for making the original post because I've been burned on these things so many times. I should not have jumped to a conclusion, for sure.

Agreed....may not be happy with his w/l record, but, doesnt seem the type to turn his back on tradition (see: relationship with Crowder, Mac, GB). And as someone else mentioned in the original thread, the street walk tradition with the touching of the statue is super cool. If he purposely got rid of the sign, super ghey. But, I'm not so sure.

We're close? We could have lost that "breakout" game against KU. This team could very well be 1-6. The coaching issues are ever-present. They have been there for nearly four seasons now. It shows no signs of changing suddenly IMO.

thank you voice of reason

So at first I thought, "oh great, another thread about DBT's colon..."

im also back and forth. i wish we had some of the ****ing guys we recruited like katoa, etc.

Me to man. me too. this ****ing sucks. I hate losing... I would happily deal with Hawk's BS if he won even 8 games a year. However, his press conference had me laughing and swearing. It was pathetic. He looks awful. Win or resign please.

I think a lot of us are like you DBT, I was back on the bandwagon last week in fact. It just so happens that you reside on the positive side more often than the negative side. Most people have just been on the negative side, and with how this season has gone I'm of the confused crowd as to how you remain on that positive side. Nonetheless, if Hawk wins out, then I'll be happier than anyone. If he wins a couple, then I want him gone as I don't think he has what it takes to bring us a winner here. Sure he could hire a few new coaches, but after seeing what he has brought in with Denver Johnson, I'm not sure I want to see what his idea of an improvement at a few positions would look like.

I'm as frustrated as anybody and have been loudly critical of Hawkins.

But I'd be absolutely stoked if we won our last 5 games. No way I can not root for that.

it just isn't like the "old days" when Mac was here. that's for damn sure. it is just so much different.

Mac knew how to motivate and lead. he was a fiery mofo. gb could get his fiery schtick going too, but it seemed to be less effective at times for him. sign o the times perhaps.

hawk just strikes me as effin' weird.

On the "Denver Johnson" thing. Do any of you think Hawk wanted to bring in "retired" guys? No. But because of Tabor, he can't get the coaches he needs and wants. Instead, he has to bring guys out of retirement. Luckily, Cabral is a CU guy and Brown wants to be around family.

Really? That's where you lose me. Nothing I've seen from Hawk, his system, or his teams, makes me think he can win consistently. Sure, upsetting a top 20 team once in awhile is fun. But wouldn't it be better to have a top 20 team?

Well I hope you're wrong on that, because if you're not then we're really screwed. I don't see how Hawk is going to improve in the offseason with a shakeup in the staff then; I was hoping we could maybe replace a few weak links and try again next year since Bohn seems set on giving Hawk another year.

I really think Hawk could be a good coach, but he has to be surrounded by good assistant coaches since he doesn't do anything overly well except uh, zen up people I guess. Not good at offense, not good at defense, not a motivator, not a special teams guru, not a recruiting god although he's not bad, not much of a keen eye for coaching talent apparently.

Apparently he's Catholic. Who knew?
