Why The Heck Is Notre Dame Playing Wash St In San Antonio?

I only get half of the matchup. Made sense in the past with A&M and Army as SA is a big military city. Also a big Catholic city, so ND and BC would have been the sensible pairing. Wazzu is probably near the bottom of BCS schools in range of fanbase and number of those who would travel for interstate games.

I believe you can blame this on the trend of Big 11/ND/Midwesterners flight from the frozen tundra of poor unemployment to the warm riches of the South. I believe the largest number of recruits for the DOD comes from the MW. Go figure. To say the weather sucks is a vast understatement.

ND has a game a year for the next couple seasons they are calling a "barnstorming" game. they are playing someone in New Orleans (Baylor, I think) next year. appears to be recruiting motivated, to me. Texas, ya know?

when the games were announced they made the appeal that Rockne used to do it and it appeals to their (sound of ND heads swelling) "national fan base".

This is a fair point. When I'd get an extended Veterans or Presidents Day weekend from school the family would go to the Corpus area and half of the cars and 90% of the motor homes had Great Lakes plates.

All comes back to the primary driving force for everything about ND football, money.

The get the opponent to list it as a home game so ND can claim it as a road game but still have a favorable crowd. They get the host city to give them a great deal on the stadium and pick cities where they can sell a lot of tickets at fairly high prices. End result they make more money than they would going to a hostile stadium, it also gives them a shot at entertaining some of their prospective big donors from that part of the country. The opponent makes more money than they would for a home game and gets ND on their schedule which brings them attention as well.

If they can use it as a recruiting tool as well, so much the better and it does get them out of the crappy weather in South Bend but money is the big reason I can see.

:yeahthat:

I think their plan for at least the immediate future is to have 7 home games and 1 neutral site game, leaving them with only 4 true road games per year. And because it's considered a home game for them, NBC picks it up.

Hey NBC and ND: :finger2:
And good luck with the ratings for this ****hole of a game you have going up against 2 real games on ABC and the World Series on Fox.

This is also why football defaults to Big 10 games regardless of state. We used to be stuck with this big 10 crap in Miami all the time despite being in ACC/SEC/Big East country. Those midwest phuckers loved moving to Florida and after one winter there I dont blame them.

then we should play all of our games in Texas, California, and Florida :smile2:

Not with the current staff and system. Remember their summer camp kept us on the outside and the propaganda machine spun the positives to sell tickets. I don't want to be exposed to our Sun Belt recruits.
