Kensler article in today's Denver Post.

"I just think we need to give Dan and the other coaches, and Mike Bohn, as well, more time to pull things together. In my mind, it's not a good idea to make changes at this point."

DiStefano said CU fans were upset with the lack of progress at the start of the Bill McCartney era in the early 1980s.

Bohn said in a separate interview that he fully supports Hawkins.

"There's no question that we like the direction of Dan Hawkins' football program in all areas except one. We all know what that is, the won-loss column. While that area ultimately determines a coach's longevity, it neither dissuades us from backing Dan, nor clouds our vision for what lies ahead for the Buffaloes under Dan."

==================

Guys, it's pretty clear that unless there's a monumental collapse or some sort of scandal, Dan Hawkins is going to be our Head Coach in 2010.

Since that's the case, I'm going to significantly tone down my negativity toward him on the message boards. The last thing I want is to be in any way responsible for harming the current recruiting class. So, let this serve as a warning that, publicly at least, I'm gonna be sunshine pumping.

What recruiting class?

Right, let's hang onto a coach that is 15-29 about to be 15-30 after today just because we are scared of "change".. Yeah, they just need some more "time"

Frickin ridiculous..

The one that averages 3.29 stars on Rivals right now? The one that is in good shape for a number of 4* and even a couple 5* prospects who are highly interested in CU?

Today's going to be a great opportunity to play well at home again and impress the hell out of some big time recruits that are visiting.

Daaaaaaaaaamn, Jimmy. You just got slapped down by the new recruiting mod.

I agree. Seems like we're stuck. Might as well make the best of it and root for our Buffs. Man, this is frustrating though.

Ah, Swish sees epic battles of fury and rage tearing at the very foundations of this board for the next year.

In the corner to my right - the blind, maniacal sunshine pumpers, exuding sugar and honey every week in behalf of the hapless, often helpless poorly coached Buffs.

In the corner to my left - The dark, brooding, rage spitting fatalists carrying the banner of complete Buff failure under the flag of a gaunt, worn down coach supported by a koolaid addicted administration.

Gentlemen, let's have a clean fight. No kidney punches, no rabbit punches, and the three knockdown rule applies

Yeah, I read where DiStefano & Bohn are supportive of Hawkins. But the article in itself also indicated they too, are feeling the heat from alumni, boosters, fans, and internet scum.

And even though from time to time I loathe Woody Page, in today’s DP article he states that if Hawkins does not produce next year that he "volunteers to step down after the 2010 season" For once I can agree with him.

yeah...it's been pretty apparent that Hawk was going to return at least next year. It sort of puts us in a tight spot though, because we HAVE to produce a quality season next year for a decent recruiting class. Hawk is going to be on the hot seat all next season, and if we struggle again, then I worry that our chances with CO's talent next year will be hurt.

I do think Hawk is able to recruit. Regardless of how our teams have produced, he can recruit. Sure, he didn't get the QB (Landry) or DLinemen that he wanted, and some players' transfers have really hurt. Still though, he's made significant success with in-state recruiting, and next year's crop is rather stellar. I hope they grew up Buffs fans and Hawk is able to sell them on CU Football, Boulder, CU academics and all of that.

I actually think it shows how much heat the school is feeling these days more than anything. In one week, we have a bizarre press conference from Hawk, repeated backings from Bohn, and now we have DiStefano stepping into the fray. I do not think it is a certainty that Hawk returns at all.

DiStephano says with regard to a new AD or coach "Who's out there?" Is he kidding? There are a ton of great coaching prospects out there right now. This guy probably has near zero interest in what's going on. As long as he and the university aren't embarrassed by the team with some scandal, that's all he cares about. DiStephano just ought to admit it, but CU administration support is at an all time low as well. If Hawk and Bohn go, this character ought to be out the door as well.

Agree. All schools are going to say they support their coach until they decide they dont and its time to make a chage. Tuberville knew the boosters didnt like him, but the school always said they supported him, until he was asked to come in to talk to the AD and was told he wasnt needed anymore.

They arent going to abandon Hawk in case he does turn it around (highly doubtful). If he continues to lose though, the pressure may be too much. GB was offered an extension the same year he was fired. The losses in the end were the final nail in the coffin.

If Hack continues to lose and play the way the team played at KSU, I still believe he may gone. If the team starts playing like they did vs KU and the 1st half of TU for the remainder of the games AND beat the corn he may save his job.

His needs to have a good recruiting class to help him as well. He could defend himself by making the argument that if he's gone so will the good recruit class he has put together. (right now he's not making a good argument in that regard) With that said and with rumors of up to 10 recruits at Boulder this weekend, he needs to win today. Lose and that defense takes a big hit.

IMHO, Right now the CU administration is playing the wait and see card privately but circling the wagons publicly. They'll continue to say they support him until they day they dont. That day may still come this season.

To what extend do you guys think 17 year old highschool football players actually read boards like this, or are even aware of their existence?

They read them a lot. They like to see what is being said about them. And if they have a high interest in the school, they check out the forums quite a bit. Today's teenagers live on the flippin' internet.

What I was struck by in reading the Bohn and DiStefano comments was just that they really don't seem to care. Oh sure, they pay lip service to wanting to win and all that but their bottom line is that Hawk is running a clean program, and that's good enough. There's a fundamental disconnect I think between those of us who are passionate about our football program and these "big picture" guys. It's understandable, I know we aren't versed in the many variables to be considered in running an athletic program at an institution of higher learning. However, it is truly sad for me to realize that CU football as I knew it throughout my life no longer exists. We're now in a phase where we're supposed to just be happy we even have a team, and be happy that they're good students who get their degrees. If we win a game here and there so much the better but the paradigm shift is complete. Winning is only an ancillary goal at CU now, helping young men better themselves is the primary mission. I'm not making any moral judgments, just stating what I perceive to be the new reality.
