Asked why Stewart enjoyed so much more success at CU than Scott did, Stewart said, “It could be a lot of things — practice, weightlifting, I don’t know.” Stewart said he did not feel close to Scott but added that Scott was pretty open when they hung out together.
SIGN OF THE TIMES: “The pride and the tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes will not be entrusted to the timid or the weak” has returned to the Dal Ward Center, according to Hawkins.

The program had painted over the longstanding phrase when the wall on which it was written was changed so the wall could be used as a video board, Hawkins said.

He said the phrase has been placed on a sign and hung on a wall near the equipment room.

The removal of the original phrase had become a sore point for former players and fans.

Replacing the sign is probably too little too late. It looks liek things have just gone too far IMO.

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

Not that it will help, but I am glad to see that sign up.
The fact that it was taken down due to it being a "sore point for former players and fans?" What does that mean..
It better not be some political correctness crap.

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

Bob Simmons, a former CU assistant and Oklahoma State head coach, attended Tuesday’s practice. Simmons said he’s going to be working as a mentor for some of the current Buffs.

Simmons would bring some passion to the Buffs.. Would be a nice hire for the next coach's staff too..

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

So CU's all time best Special Teams coach is now back "Mentoring" some CU players. Note to Dan Dipsh*t....hire Bob Simmons right now as Special Teams coach and OLB coach.

When Bob coached Special Teams under Coach Mac we had the best ST in the country..bar none.

He has HC experience, is well liked, respected in the profession and can relate to minority athletes.
This is a no brainer.

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

Degrading Scott is one avenue available to Hawkins & Co. Name-calling will certainly help the situation.

Fortunately, Rivals only updates their recruit-interest database once every few weeks at this time of year. I counted 19 listing CU last evening. I wonder how many will have CU listed in 2-3 weeks?

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

One thing I am certain of is that the players and coaches will be better for spending time with Bob Simmons.

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

I wonder how things would have been different if Bob Simmons was named head coach instead of Slick.

Someone told me he was Mac's 1st choice to take over the program. Anyone else hear the same thing ?

I've heard that too. Mac wanted Simmons to follow him.

I think it would have worked out the same way it did at Nebraska when Solich followed Osborne. Very similar situations.

I don't think we would have ever had the "scandal", though, because Simmons would have run a clean program and never put us on the path that Weasel did.

I did too. I fear the appearance of Simmons is another Bohner. By that I mean PB's theory that new AC's will be hired, and Coach Care Bear will be retained. I like Simmons, but bringing in superior AC's like him won't fix the problem of the juicebox....

Mac thought Simmons was the guy to take the job. Marolt hired Neuheisel.

i could have won 10 games a year with the Mac talent Ricky-poo had in 05 and 06.

I remember hearing the same thing.....why was Bob Simmons not mentioned as the next coach after Mac left

Bob Simmons is a good person and I am happy to see him having some engagement with the University again.

But, as far as hiring Simmons as the head coach - if you though Dan Hawkins had nepotism issues - you have never seen nepotism until you've seen Bob/Nathan Simmons.

Give me one instance where Hawkins has said ANYTHING negative about Scott since he left???:confused::confused::rolleyes:

You misread it. The removal of the sign had become a sore poit for former players and fans. They were mad that the sign was taken down.

Very true. At least Nate has no more eligibility....

Give me one instance where Hawkins has said ANYTHING negative about ANYTHING???:confused::confused::rolleyes:

FIFY. Coach Care Bear is all about positives. No negativity about anything. 15 yard punt? Helmet pat. Missed a block? Helmet pat. Fumble or int? Helmet pat. I honestly believe if you asked the guy what he thought of Hitler, he would say he had a unique mustache.

His Benjamin Spock approach to FB has made the team soft. Other teams smack the Buffs in the mouth and they start salivating for the post-game orange slices.

But you are right, DH hasn't said one negative thing about DS. In this instance, I give him credit for that.

Oh, I agree. It's like John Blake at OU a few years ago. After he was fired many of the players said "he was just too nice". Now I believe he's still at N*braska and a hell of a recruiter and doing a good job, but, just not the right attitude for big time college football.(as a head coach) Enter Dan Hawkins. Great guy, too great of a guy.
My only point is we need to quit blaming him for EVERYTHING. Its getting insane. He doesnt need to be coach. This needs to happen as soon as humanly possible. However, we dont need to blame him for **** he didnt do. How can someone read that article and respond with anger that Hawkins is ripping Scott???

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

Oh no. I'm starting to get the feeling that this won't cost Juicebox his job. In the article it says "Coach Hagan has been asking that question all season,” Stewart said. “To finally hear that he did want to transfer, that was a shocker.”

If that's the case, I'm concerned that Bohn already knew this was a possibility, and won't use it as further evidence that Hack has to go. Man, what a horrible situation.
And why was Hagan constantly asking if DS wants to transfer? Seems wierd to me to ask and ask and ask your best recruit if he wants to leave

I agree. He has been a complete and utter failure at the primary thing he was hired to do, though. I suspect that is why people are likely to blame him for all the shortcomings of the program, that and the fact he isn't even close to earning the pay he is taking....

He was hired to clean up the program/image and to win football games. He's done half of it very succesfully and needs to be fired for his failure at the other half. But, the hatred thats grown for him is weird to me. Not a great fit here, needs to be fired. He, however, is not Hitler. He didnt rip Scott. He didnt shoot JFK. He's not a great fit at a Big 12 school. Why the hatred? He's trying to get it turned around. Would ANYONE else realistically expect a coach with an ego to just resign?? If so, thats not well thought out--in his mind, he can turn this around. The anger, IMHO, should be directed at Bohn. (and i like Bohn).

Re: Another great longmont article... DS not painted well (Oh and a certain sign is b

I understand the painting-over-the-sign was an issue, and it could have been handled so much better. I'm surprised this coaching staff didn't understand that. I guess since it wasn't a blue-field, they didn't value Buff traditions. Maybe in 10-20 more seasons, they'll understand that.

Are you sure about the JFK thing?

In a way it is good people are angry. Some people still care about CU FB. I get very irritated watching DH continually screw up. His ego is unbelievable. He gets outcoached week in and week out. His successes are largely inspite of himself.

Having said all that I don't hate him. I feel sorry for him. He got his shot at the big time and has blown it big time. I agree with Alfred Williams, he'll never coach another BCS team again after CU gives him the axe. He's lost me. I am still a Buff fan, and will be after DH is gone. I no longer believe CU will be successful with his cub scout milk and cookies approach. If he had any integrity, he'd resign and negotiate a buyout commensurate with his performance.

He won't though, he'll do what every other coach does, he'll hold up CU for every penny he can. That's why listening to HC's talk about student-athletes and doing things the "right way" is so hypocritical to me...

It probably means that it has been self-apparent for several years that the "pride and tradition" has been entrusted to someone who has failed to protect the contributions of former players by putting an unworthy product on the field. I would call it a fait accompli and do not believe it should be reprented formally until it is earned. It is analogous to NU's black-shirt designation. The bottom line is that one could describe the current state of Colorado Football as both timid and weak. The proud promise of the words displayed has been betrayed. I see this as a failure of culture and only one person can ultimately be responsible for that . . . the head coach. Personal accountability is required and the only consequence at this point should be resignation. We need someone who understands what those words mean and who has contributed to the "pride and tradition." I am for Embree and Bienemy.

It almost reads as if he was baiting him. There has to be more to the story.

Hagan needs to be fired. We have had zero running game since he became the running back coach. And if he was doing his job right, he would not need to ask his top recruit if he was going to transfer all season long.
