2010 Staff Shakeup Guesses

Assuming that Coach Hawkins is back next year, it looks like there are going to be some staff shakeups.

Which guys do you most expect to be replaced?

Here are mine:

Definite
Bob Foster (OLB Coach): was a planned 1-year hire

Very Likely
Ron Collins (Defensive Coordinator): doesn't recruit; doesn't coach a position; may not even be coordinating any more

Romeo Bandison (D-Line Coach): weak recruiter; not a great position coach

Denver Johnson (O-Line Coach): weak recruiter; not a great position coach

Somewhat Likely
Darian Hagan (RB Coach): good recruiter; not a great position coach; relationship with Speedy, # of prospects he's on this year & Buff legend status may save him

Brian Cabral (LB Coach): good recruiter; great position coach; may need to be replaced because he finds an NFL job or a DC or Head Coach job in college. (I think he stays, though.)

I think everyone else is safe, although there's a chance that people are brought in to give Kiesau more help at OC and Riddle more help at ST coordination. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Brown was promoted to DC and Ambrose ended up coaching our DBs next year instead of our WRs (which would create a need to find a WR coach). If Cabral goes, I could also see Sykes joining the coaching staff for LBs.

Re: 201 Staff Shakeup Guesses

I honestly cannot disagree with what you say. Although I would move Hagan up to "very likely" and Bandison down to "somewhat likely". And if it comes to pass that Hawk is back and he retains Riddle, I will not be surprised but still super pissed.

While your analysis is thorough from an internet scum perspective....it is still just speculation.

What gave it away? Could it be that the ****ing thread title said "Guesses"?

Re: 201 Staff Shakeup Guesses

What are the chances we get a real WR coach?

It will be mind-boggling if Riddle is retained. He might be an all right TE coach, but our special teams play has been atrocious. Kiesau and Collins haven't exactly been lights out but at least there are signs of improvement now and again. Every week we get the same **** with special teams though.

Can you change the title to say "2010"? I'd rather it make sense and I really don't time to make 201 staff change guesses. :smile2:

A couple of people have said Bandison is done, and you really can't argue with that.

Hagan supposedly has a lot of support, I'd expect his coaching role to change, but as of now, he's really the only one on the staff doing any recruiting at all.

How does Riddle stay? Our ST is a massive cluster-****

I was just guessing, but I believe that Riddle is Hawk's best friend on the staff. He has gone out of his way to praise Riddle in the past few pressers. If Hawkins stays, I'll be shocked if Riddle is gone.

In Riddle's defense, he is a good position coach and a good recruiter. Maybe the special teams problems have been more an issue of inexperience & lack of depth than we'd like to admit. I know that was weak, but it's all I got. :smile2:

Typically the coordinator coaches a position in practice. Collins would get outside linebackers again once Foster leaves. Cabral would still coach inside or all linebackers if he became DC and Brown would probably still have DBs.

Does Cabral have the chops to be a DC for us? Not questioning him, just wondering, it seems like he has never been challenged with running the whole defense. Is it because coaches want him to recruit and not worry about the whole defense? Riddle seems to do well coaching TEs, it just is too much on his plate to do ST and there isn't enough emphasis from Hawk it seems with practice time and attention dedicated to them.

I think Hawkins is gonzo unless he can win out. In the event he stays, I can't see Kiesau staying at OC after this year's performance.

In my dream scenario I like Cabral and Brown keeping their respective position duties but one of them becoming DC. Likely Brown and have Cabral continue to go harder with recruiting the West Coast. I'd then like Bob Simmons coaching outside linebackers and special teams.

Hagan is gone. Hawk has never liked him plus he's not much of a coach. I think he's #1 on Hawk's list that gets dropped.

IMHO the only coaches that stay are:
Hawk
Cabral
Brown
Kiasau (although not as OC)
Brandison (maybe)
Riddle (only cause Hawk likes him)

Here's my two cents: I think Hagan is for sure gone. If there's any justice in the world, Riddle will be gone too. He's overseen way too may special teams whoopsies in the past couple years and I think that most people looking at our team objectively would agree. The rest I'm not sure about. I was really high on Denver Johnson when he first came here but after how the OL has played so far, I'm not so sure. One thing I just thought of that might be a wild card is Brad Bedell. If he gets his degree in the near future, he might get plugged in somewhere.

I dislike this thread, as it implies that Hawkins will be back. I do not want him back under any circumstances. Ok human being, bad football coach.

Who is Hawkins going to attract to CU to replace all these shakeups? Since Hawkins is on the hot seat an assistant coaching job at CU is probably not all that attractive to top notch assistants.

Is CU going to bring in a bunch of guys who are in over their heads again? Who are going to be the top recruiters?

Foster was suppose to be a one year hire...if he stays that leaves a hole in recruiters.

Must go:

Johnson
Collins
Riddle
Brandison

The rest imo, are fine and should be given another year. If Brown is really the guy behind the defensive improvement, make him DC and put Ambrose in there as DB coach with Brown helping him. I guess if Foster has helped with the defensive turnaround he should stay too. Brandison has made some strides this year, but as a whole he has really been below average and doesn't recruit much. Johnson and Riddle just have to go imo, if Hawk doesn't agree he can find the exit too. Kiseau he had his moments this year, if we can bring in a proven OC then I'm ok with a demotion for Kiseau. Hagan recruits pretty damn well and it's not like our RBs aren't one of our best positions. They might have issues picking up blocks in pass protection, but I have a hard time calling for Hagans job on that reason alone. I'd like to see Simmons coach DL and a real OL coach brought in. A real WR coach is also needed as well as someone taking over ST that won't allow fake field goals and returns for TDs every week. I really don't think a staff shakeup will make that much of a difference, but I won't be boycotting CU games next year if that is all that changes.

A hot-shot assistant may see this as an opportunity to either work with Hawkins to turn the program around, or be in the right place/right time when there is an opening. It might be attractive to an up and comer.

What hot shot assitant though? Maybe a D2 guy or something, but I doubt any good coach with half a brain wants to move to Colorado for a 1 year on the job tryout. I have a very big worry that whoever Hawk brings in won't be much better than what we have now. Then again maybe he can get Embree back and talk Simmons into coaching something, that'd be a huge improvement right there.

chip kelly part 2 please.

Yeah he's what comes to my mind when I think of D2 hot coaches, not sure I have faith in Hawk finding us one of those though.

An up and comer on what staff? You talking about trying to find a needle in a haystack...Hawkins struggles last year finding assistants.

The "hot assistants" should all be candidates for the Florida DC job when Charlie Strong leaves next month for the Colorado job.

We eliminate special teams screw ups and penalties and we win a couple more games at least. How does that keep your job?

Staying:
...
Possible Stayers:

Hagan >Only if he has a huge recruiting cycle...otherwise, he's gone
Ambrose >Should take over the DBs...already really has
Bedell >Off assistant
Bandison >That is unless Kasa leaves
...

What?

Pretty much agree with this as it is spot on...

Who is going to come to CU and take a job that will most likely only be for a year unless the new coach throws them a life vest when the ship finally sinks.

Anyone good isn't doing that which leaves us with more unproven coaches who will more than likely be in over their head even more than the current guys we have.

Folks, Hawk is done! Even thinking about stuff like this just drums up support for continued mediocrity at best. We've seen what Hawk can do and it isn't good enough. Time for someone else to drive and see where they take us.

I have no clue. But we need recruiters. As a matter of fact, whats more important in a coach? Recruiting or coaching. Of course, if you can do both, its a no brainer.

I did not realize how great Bienemy was. I mean, I knew he could recruit. But after hearing him on the radio with CJ before the game, I saw his charisma.

And what about CJ? I'm sure he's comfortable where he is. Nice, safe, and cosey. But I'd think he'd be a great recruiter. Don't know if he can coach though.

I think Hawkins is gonzo unless he can win out. In the event he stays, I can't see Kiesau staying at OC after this year's performance.

I think Keisau is doing better as the year goes by-- and who would we bring in if Hawk stays? Another person to learn on the job for another year? If Hawk stays-- I want Keisau to stay. Actually hope that if Hawk goes, the noe coach thinks about keeping Keisau. I think he will be a great OC, he already is supposed to be a good recruiter-- I think with a good name new coach, could do great things. But of course, if the new coach has a person in mind that he can get here, then all bets are off.

Hagen maybe should not be a coach, but a recruiter for CU. I think that is his best role on the team. Who could come in and have more passion for CU? (other than Alfred maybe!)

I think we either go 0-3 or 1-2 to finish the year and Hawk is gone. Pray that a 2-1 ending does not keep Hawk around. Three convincing wins may sway me, but don't see that happening.
