The Blue Out helped the team (their words)

Hope he wore a powder blue condom while he was attending to his lady of the night.

“We talked about it and took it as disrespect to us and we took it personally,” Hansen said. “We wanted to come out here and show the fans we’re still here, we’re still a good team and even though you guys don’t have our back, we’re going to play for each other.”

Hey, Tyler, we know and appreciate that you're part of a team, and don't or can't separate the players from the coaches. But the blue-out was to make a point regarding poor coaching. You were able to see those blue shirts because they were in the stadium, supporting you.

GO BUFFS!!

Tyler is in a tough spot. He couldnt' exactly go into yesterday's game saying, "Know what...I'm putting on blue because Hawk dicked with me."

The guy stood up and had his best game as a Buff. Blue Out. Mission Accomplished.

Powder blue t-shirts rushing the field after the game struck me as being strangely hypocritical.

I think we should all wear some blue until Hawk has a winning record at CU, or until he is put out of his misery and sent back to Idaho!

It's embarassing to rush the field at 3-6 no matter what color the shirt might be.

It's definately hypocritical for a fan attired in black and gold to predict CU to lose against Aggie at the beginning of the game, yet choose to rush the field when there is a happy ending.

Blue is being unfairly framed in the media as an act of giving up on the players. I have yet to see one quote from the blue contingent in the papers following the game.

Ok, so most Buff fans were hypocrites when they expected the Buffs to lose to Oklahoma in '07?

Gonna have to disagree.

Your logic is sound on the surface. My argument could have been constructed better.

Let me try again.

Not as many fans were as disgruntled in 2007 as they are now. The situation was different.

If you have faith in your heart for these players and a love for the long term welfare of CU football, it doesn't matter the color of your shirt.

But if you are wearing black and gold and have been bad mouthing the players and the coaches and the university and have writen off the 2009 season prior to the game, then any moral authority is about wearing black and gold while rushing the field would be lost.

Why? You act as though the people wearing them were anti-CU or something. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The people who showed up in blue did so because they care about the direction this program is headed and wanted to make their feelings known.

there is an interesting post facto framing movement going on from the staff and the people who disapproved of the blue.

This is why I argued incessantly with a buddy that wanted to wear blue to the game... the fans may get why they're doing it but the team feels like we're equating them to the ****ty team from the 80's and it's incredibly disrespectful. I was super disappointed to see the blue-shirts out on the field after the game. There's a reason that the team didn't go sing the fight song with the students when they won. The felt slighted... and they should feel that way. IMO.

I understand WHY you all did it I just don't agree with the choice to use the blue from the 80's as the medium to express your frustrations with the coaching staff. Something else should have been worn/said/done than using the blue from the past. The team sees it as "Wow, the fans think we're as ****ty as when we went 10-44 over 4 years and they want to remind us of that."

It is blatantly obvious to everyone that we're not happy with the coaching. Listen to a call in show, read the emails that I'm sure they're getting, or listen to the "Fire Hawkins" chants at the game... you don't need to make the TEAM feel like the fans are backing out on them because they're not wearing OUR colors.

You could've created "Fire Hawkins" shirts in black and gold... but the blue was disrespectful to the players even if every single one of them knew why it was you all wore them!

or cause they were pissed the students rushed the field like ****ing dumbasses. The team always leaves the field when the students rush for no goddamn reason. And if they hate the fans and win, thas fine with me.

you need to stop coddling the team like they are 5 years old. They are men. They are 2 passes from being 1 and 8. And were not competitive in EVERY SINGLE LOSS. They have not played with pride and fire, which I would respect. They do remind us of that period. I was protesting the coaching that produced that attitude and those losses. If the coaches won't motivate the players, the fans will. Stop worrying about hurt feelings. Its sad. This is NOTHING compared to what other fanbases do when they suck as bad as we do (cough NU cough)

Cool... so we should lower ourselves closer to NU's level? I didn't say you couldn't be vocal, I just disagree with your choice on how you were vocal!

Also, these are kids... they don't do this for a living, they do it for fun. You really think your blue shirt motivated our team to win?

 see post that started thread. It obviously hit a nerve, or everyone from the AD on down wouldn't have talked about it.

No one's doubting that it hit a nerve! :)

...but one players says “It might have actually helped us in some sense.

...and the other says "We talked about it and took it as disrespect to us and we took it personally...We wanted to come out here and show the fans we’re still here, we’re still a good team and even though you guys don’t have our back, we’re going to play for each other.”

Which one resonates with you more?

ummm. so you are wrong about it providing motivation? Wtf cares what resonates? I will tell you what resonates. A ****ing win.

All I know is that after a season of watching the coaches and players actlike they are in a friggin scrimmage game with even less emotion, both players and coaches were fired up on Sat. I don't give a **** how they took it-- I care that they finally acted like they cared if they won. I like coaches with fire, and McDaniels has grown on me alot. Winning helps, to be sure, but I LOVED he reactions after beating NE, and when the defense or special teams coach had his unit screw up, loved the glare from McDaniels. No question as to how bad he wants to win.

This whole 'don't get to high, don't get too low' thing has had the team acting like they were all depressed and playing in the lows too often this season. Need to be fired up. Emotion on top of talent and execution wins games.

If it takes me wearing baby blue to every game to get these guys fired up, count me in. I don't care if they hate it or not. I don't care if they're pissed off at me, just so long as they're PISSED OFF.

:wow: Where did I say that it did or didn't provide motivation?! I asked you if you really thought your blue shirt provided motivation... you never answered just pointed me back to the start of the thread... I'll assume you did that because you really do feel like your blue shirt provided the motivation necessary for the team to win. Please feel free to let me know if I'm wrong!

I only jumped in here to point out that I disagree with fans not wearing CUs colors to protest the coaching because I feel like it was disrespectful to the players. Tyler Hansen's comment in the Longmont newspaper backed that up. In my opinion, making sure that the players know that we support them, win or lose, is more important than shaming them into "some sense" of motivation.

Interesting attitude... but if that's your MO then that's fine. I just disagree with it.

You asked me if I thought the blue out provided motivation. I pointed you to a quote of a player saying it provided motivation. Can you really not figure out the rest?

I got it. I was just was hoping to hear you say: "Yes! My blue shirt helped motivate the team to win!!"
