Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

I think the only positions where we take a step back are TE, LB, and DB

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

Who is zion babb?

A top WR recruit in 2007 who went to Michigan, then left the team in 2008.
The reasons he left, or was asked to leave, have always been murky.

But he's also (rumor has it) kept in touch with Toney Clemmons, who defected from UM and has been sitting on the CU bench this year, waiting to get eligible.

Zion Babb Profile

Michigan Live story

(from non premium Scout story)
Babb was coveted by the Wolverines due in large part to his versatility. He is a big physical athlete, with deceptive speed…both of which are traits that could also transfer to the defensive side of the ball. Either way, Michigan believes it has a player that will make an impact at some point in his career.
As a wide receiver he can out-muscle defensive back off of the line of scrimmage or beat them with an array of release moves. He is also a good route runner and shows a willingness to go over the middle for the ball. The only real knock against him is more of a glider than a sprinter and lacks elite level speed. That said, he is still fast enough to get deep on most DB's he faces, and opponents will have to respect that.
Defensively Babb's size and ball-hawking ability would be great assets at safety. He played corner in high school and demonstrated good man to man cover skills while there, but he'll probably outgrow that position at the college level.
At this point in time Michigan plans to start him out on offense and see where things go from there.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

What do you honestly see from this team next year, assuming everyone returns. Do we have the team to compete as far as talent level.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

I see lots of talented kids, many of whom were recruited by top schools. I just hope they can develop (coaching) and make the necessary strides to get it all together next season.

I see us being solid, talented, deep and veteran at every position next year. If this team is disciplined and well-coach, it's going to a bowl game. If it can find some playmakers that can turn modest plays into touchdowns, this team can challenge for the Big 12.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

Updated based on Josh Moten being accepted for the spring semester. Inserted him at Quarterback for now.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

Freshman TE Alex Wood. Is he no longer with the team?

I was just looking at our lack of experienced depth at FB/TE. With our depth at WR, we really look like a team that will run a spread offense next season. Not to take anything away from Deehan and Thornton, I hope they can be great contributors next season, just that we are so thin at TE and don't have a FB that I can tell.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

Wood's still on the team as far as I know. And we're gonna be a little thin at TE next year. The Wallace transfer this summer hurt a lot. Deehan's going to have to have a big year.

He's on the official CU football roster. #84.
Alex Wood bio.

Whoops, just notice you had him on the list. sorry

Yeah I was really looking forward to those two TE's being our next stud-duo. Deehan has great talent, and we'll have to lean on him hard like we have Geer for the past 3 seasons.

He wasn't a strong blocker when he came in, so not sure how much he has progressed in that area under Riddle.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

Here's the position breakdown (assuming no attrition) heading into 2010:

Returning LSs on Scholarship: 0
Walk Ons - Austin Bisnow (Sr), Joe Silipo (Sr)
2010 Class (0):

I thought Bisnow was coming back, but he is not. Graduating early.
This was in B.G. Brook's column today:
...junior snapper Austin Bisnow, who graduates in May and will not return next fall...
In case anyone didn't know, Bisnow is an accomplished musician. (His professional name is Austin Paul.)

Not to hijack the thread, here is one of his music videos on youtube - if you watch one, you will find a selection of his performances by the same.

I swear to God, if Brooks ever calls me a snapper, there will be fisticuffs.

Here's another Bisnow/Paul video that I actually like better.

Thanks for posting that, I noticed that in the introductions, was thinking WTF? We just talked about him being a junior, now Boulder Buff is gonna be pissed off that we don't have an experienced LS next season!

I don't think anyone other than Drescher snapped in a game the last 4 years (and 99% of the time he was money). But Bisnow's departure means Silipo will be the only one who's even done it in practice, and may now be the only guy with LS experience to snap to new kickers and punters. I hope the other 9 guys on the field can improve their blocking and coverage under a DIFFERENT COACH because there's going to be a lot of inexperience to go around in the kicking game.

I have full trust in The Riddler. No worries.

Re: Buffs Roster for 2010

It's sounding like Celestine did everything asked of him to earn back his scholarship. We'll find out once grades are in for this semester, but the signs are positive.
