Cody Hawkins lining up at WR while Andre Simmons watches from the bench

Cody's speed is deceptive and we know he has good hands from all the practice shagging wild snaps last year?

Cody kicked Andre in the nuts and took his spot in the grouping?

I thought maybe they were going to try a double pass - you know backward pass to Hawkins and then Hansen runs downfield as a receiver. Although if he ran very far Cody probably could not get it there against the wind. I don't think that would fool anyone.

Is this a joke or did Cody actually play WR against ISU the other day?

He lined up at WR at least a couple times according to the radio broadcast. My guess is that they had some kind of trick play planned, or at least some kind of look that involved getting ISU to think they were going to run some kind of trick play.

I don't remember anything like that ever actually happening, though...

i think we had a penalty which prevented the 2d running of the play from ever happening...

If i remember hearing the radio correctly. Cody lined up in the slot. Took a reverse and ended up throwing it to Speedy for a screen. I believe it got a few yards but not much. It was definitely a surprise. Johnson had no idea and sounded startled when he said it like he wasn't believing his own words.

Were you by any chance on peyote when you listened to the game?

Seriously though, I listened to the broadcast from pre-game until they were done with post game and never heard anything like that. Yes, he lined up at WR, but he was never involved in the play. Never touched the ball, never threw a pass.

The game statistics confirm as much:

I was in Ames and I saw it at least once where he lined up at the outside receiver position on the far sideline...after the snap, he basically stood in place and didn't do anything that would have gotten him involved in the play...I was pretty confused by that...

Yikes, it is worse than I thought!

So he blended in with the rest of the offense.

or

So he was the player of the game for us.

or

Sounds like he won his old job back for a few plays.

or

He was just doing "the little things".

There has to be more of these for that comment :smile2:

I have been sick so I could have been hearing things. Maybe Johnson was saying what he was supposed to be doing but I thought I heard them explaining this type of play.

Come on folks, this is not a big conspiracy. They had a double pass in the playbook this week. Probably had a package of plays with that personnel. Could not stop taking penalties to get it set up and run it.

I don't have anything cute or swarmy to say here, but I bet that the ISU defenders were frightened of his ginormous lunchpail and they probably had him double covered. Maybe triple covered.

Cody, the coach, called the play.

It's way in the back of the play book and he's the only player that got that far learning the play book.

When I heard they put CH at WR on the radio, I thought, "just when I thought we had seen it all..."

Maybe Ch will dot the I formation versus OSU Thursday. That'll fool 'em.:smile2:

Doubtful. I heard he learned the defense this week and jumped Kasa on the depth chart. Should start making a run at the CU sack record starting this week.

It makes perfect sense given the rest of our offensive scheme. Our offense is based on misdirection and deception, not lining up and forcing the issue. He was a decoy designed to take a DB and safety out of the play in fear of the double pass. Just like when we run out of the I the fullback goes one way and the TB the other.

Meh. So we tried a trick play formation. I'm glad they're trying to do something that might result in a big play. Have we run a trick play on offense all year (RB or WR pass, double pass, hook & lateral, statue of liberty, etc.)?

maybe Hawk muffed the movie quote from Stripes...

"He said black guys help the white guys"

not:

white guys help the black guys! CMON Hawk!
