Shanahan tag team in Boulder?

Coach Dan Hawkins still has his job for now, but the calls for his head are getting louder with each week. Should he be fired, one of the most tantalizing possibilities being floated in the blogosphere is that athletic director Mike Bohn is considering a Kiffin-like arrangement with the Shanahans.

Under this scenario, Colorado would hire Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans, as head coach, and his father, Mike, the longtime Denver Broncos coach, would come aboard as some sort of assistant, a la Monte Kiffin with Lane Kiffin at Tennessee. (Indeed, FootballCoachScoop.com reports that Bohn met with Mike Shanahan on Sunday.)

The Shanahans obviously have very close ties to the state, and Mike and his wife just completed a ginormous house (35,000 square feet) in suburban Denver and reportedly are not eager to move. (Would you be?) Kyle turned down a chance to become Minnesota's offensive coordinator last year, citing his desire to remain in the NFL, but running his own program, at age 30 (his birthday is Dec. 14), obviously has a whole different appeal.

With a precedent set at Tennessee, this doesn't appear as far-fetched as it may sound.

Best baseless rumor i've heard.....at least all of this craziness can keep me entertained while not having to focus on the actual football team

That would make absolutely no sense.

Mike Shanahan will be in Ashburton, VA in the spring to get the Redskins ready for next season.

No way Shanny gets involved in that even larger train wreck.
I'd take the $4 Million from Snyder and bring Kyle with me as my OC than take the Colorado job and have a 1 year assistant salary.

What would Mike Shanahan's job be as an assistant? It sounds funny with me even typing it.

Would you answer change if you would get $7 million from Pat Bowlen if you coached at CU, but nothing if you went to DC??

Taking $4 million per year to coach the Redskins is a $3 million net loss to Mike in 2009. And that dude likes his money.

- edited my post. Buyout only goes through this year.

Plus he's got his new house & restaurant to manage....it would have to be a very enticing offer for him to work elsewhere in the NFL over the next few years

Bowlen's buyout with Shanny would give him $7 Million just to coach at CU?

If so, yeah I'd stay and coach some position for Colorado.

He gets paid by Bowlen unless he takes an NFL coaching position somewhere....

so the thought is that he would work at CU and still get paid by Bowlen....

I think it is all nonsense...

Love to have Shanny but I just dont think he would stay very long. Also, I dont see him being the Redskins coach. I kinda think he might end up in Chicago. Probably all bull**** rumors anyway.

its the truth... all of it... we checked it out on collegefootballcoachscoop.com

Hello, Allbuffs? Yeah, this is three to four weeks ago calling. Can I have my Shanahan conversation back, please? Thanks.

As I've said before, I think this has about a zero percent chance of happening. Shanny would probably have a good laugh if he read these threads. That said I'm having a VERY tough time not getting my hopes up about this.

wrong, I do know for a fact he would listen and be interested. Length of time is only question.

Have you been down in Cherry Hills using Mike's tanning bed again, Leash? Didn't you see the report that those things are now the number one cause of cancer, passing even cigarettes? I know Mike's skin is a lovely orange to match the Denver sunset, but think about it man, it's not worth it.

No, I have said this before, a good family friend of ours is friends with that family. Straight from the mouth.

Hold up. How do you "know (this) for a fact"? Are you buddies with Shanahan or something? Drinking buddy? Go fishing with him? The idea that you know something to be a fact typically comes either from first or second hand knowledge. Not something you read on an internet bulletin board.

edit: I didn't keep reading. So OK. That's third hand information, but I'll take it for what you say it is.

Have you met Leash??

Have you seen anything to make you think he's ever been within 100 miles of a tanning bed??

This comes from Shanny's mouth. Some family friends of ours is good friends with the Shannahan's, you have probably seen their name on real estate boards (name taken out), anyway, they used to live next to the Shannahans in California. They used to always get sideline passes to bronco games and are close to the Shannahan family, my family is close to this family. He actually said in a conversation, that Mike told him he would "listen".

Of course he'd listen, its not like you can close your ears.

Hell. I like it just for the name recognition value associated with the program.

There is a lot between "listen" and and ink on a contract but I say shoot for the muther fakin moon!!!
