FootballCoachScoop.com: A 2nd meeting will happen between Bohn and Shanahan soon

Our source has confirmed that a second meeting will be taking place between Athletic Director Mike Bohn and Mike Shanahan in the not to distant near future.

This is FootballCoachscoop.com source..

Thoughts?

It's a fun rumor, but take it for what it's worth. Any of you can email that site with a plausible rumor and they will publish it.

But how do they determine what and what not to publish? They must get hundreds of e-mails every day.

If you were laying odds on who was the most likely person to get the job, who would be the odds on favorite?

Embree? Venebles?

I love the thought of going after Shanny - but as much as I think that would be fun to see I just don't think it has any possibility of happening.

bingo..

This rumor is coming from people that over pay for a site where they have no buffscoop whatsoever..

Oh and don't forget, Woelk says no meeting has happened between Mike S and Bohn.. I bet we should believe him too..

It makes sense on a few levels though. He built a mega-mansion here. He is starting a restaurant. He has a ton of ties in Denver. He has always been intrigued by the college game. And he still gets paid by Bowlen so he really doesn't need much from CU.

That last point I need to check because I can't remember if he still gets his contract money from the Broncos if he goes the college route.

The consensus seems to be that he gets his payoff from Bowlen as long as he isn't coaching an NFL team. (After all, Bowlen doesn't compete with the Univ. of Colorado)

Ok thanks, but you also know that he still gets paid by Bowlen if the next team doesn't pay him 7 million. Whatever the difference Bowlen makes up! There are rules because teams can't pay him $1 of something really drastic. I just couldn't find anything on college. Thanks for the clarification.

The question is how badly does Mike S want to coach and how much he wants that money.

Will he coach in the NFL next year and earn the 14 million plus whatever more he can get from an NFL team per year if they decide to pay him over what his Broncos contract is.

does he coach CU for 2 or 3 years and collect his 14 million from the Broncos

Or does he sit out another year and jumps back into the NFL in 2011, collecting another 7 million for sitting out next year.

Whatever he does, he will collect at LEAST 7 million per year.

You don't believe in Shanny Claus?

Is it just because it is good news that you choose to believe this bogus site?

No way mike is coming here. He'll be in the NFL coaching in 2010. You think he's going to come here for pocket change and to have to go out and recruit? I also don't believe he would want to take over this program and the shape it's in.

Hard to predict what motivates people. Syko's perspective is completely rationale, but human beings are not always rationale. Just look at Belicheck's dumb-ass fourth down decision on Sunday night.....you never know. Shanny may see this as a challenge that he wants to take on. Highly unlikely, but who knows except him?

I just can't see a coach of his stature doing this. It's much more likely Bohn called him and asked him about Jeremy Bates. If Shanahan is the HC next year I'll be shocked.

Just speculation but the fit is better than many think.

Shanny is in an interesting point in his life. To start with he is a workaholic, classic driven type A personality. He is not the kind of guy to be happy sitting in a recliner watching ESPN Classic. Secondly he is increadibly competitive. This is a guy who lived for winning football games. I can very easily imagine him driving his wife and everyone else around him completely crazy looking for a way to realease his energy.

At the same time he has been in the NFL working insane schedules for over two decades. He has gotten comfortable in Colorado, has the new house, and has enough money to do what he wants the rest of his life. He and his wife have their charity connections in Colorado and their circle of friends. (Don't think for a second that the wife won't have a huge say in whatever decision he makes.)

CU gives him the perfect opportunity to stay in Colorado, to compete at a very high level at something that he knows yet the college game would be new enough to him to be interesting. College coaches work some crazy hours as well but the off-season is longer and he would have more time for family and friends. The idea of coaching with his son would be the frosting on the cake.

The last issue is control. It is very unlikely that any NFL job would give him the type of control on a day to day basis that he wants. The idea of Dallas or Washington are even further out with their meddling owners. Within certain parameters a college HC is king of his domain. He decides who to recruit, who plays, what systems are used, schedules, his assistants, even to an extent who they play in OOC in conjunction with the AD. For Shanny this would be a perfect fit.

Again it is all purely rumor but looking at it closely it makes a lot more sense the more you think about it.

Shanny's role in this could just be to give Bohn advice. If so I like it. But I'd love to have the Little General on our sidelines. :smile2:

This post makes me wonder if FootballCoachscoop.com is full of sh**. No other source has surfaced to confirm the rumor. I think Mike B. is telling the truth when he said he has not contacted anyone about the HC job. He is always careful about what he says. IMO Bohn would not want to have his integrity questioned by being caught lying about this.
