Mangino Situation vs. Barrnet situation

Ambitious but rubbish.

there seem to be a lot of similarities between the two situations with good coaches basically being run out of town as their team collapses. You think KU would have learned from our mistake.

I think Kansas is nuts if they get rid of Fatgino but it seems its headed that way..

AD is on a power trip.. If he truly thinks someone else is going to take them further than what Fatgino did he's truly mistaken..

But if they want a soft coach who won't yell at their players and say everything is awesome win or lose, Dan Hawkins is available in about a week..

There is a question about him assualting a player. He apparently poked a finger in his chest during practice while criticizing the player. How thats as egregious as what Woody Hayes did is beyond me.

There is another rumor I read that there is a player on the team with Leukemia and he called that player a pussy for taking it easy in practice. Funny how times change. I recall a photo of an assitant coach at CU giving Tyrrone Bussey a hard time for leaving practice early when he was at CU for the same illness.

Running GB off was not a mistake. He could no longer be effective as the HC of CU, whether you attribute the downfall to him or outside forces. Things were not going to get better with him at the helm.
Mangino is a different story. He took the program to respectability, and his effectiveness as a HC at KU can still be argued.

Depends on what the story is with the assault. Bad guy Mangino wouldnt go over very well in Feelgoodville.

F-uck Feelgoodville! They don't buy tickets anyways. Im tired of their s-hit and this goofy expectation that 'we need a coach that will fit in in Boulder'. Bill McCartney was an abrasive at times right wing bible thumper and fit in just fine. Rick Neuheisel and Dan Hawkins sure fit in great in Boulder didn't they? Product on the field? Not so much.

True, although you could argue that it was Barnett's problems fitting in in Boulder that led to his demise. The feminists and the Boulder DA didn't like him and made it their personal mission to destroy him.

Hmmm, what about Barnett coaching in Lawrence when Mangino gets the axe.
:wow:

Interesting how trying to destroy someone usually has major consequences that you didn't quite expect.....

Such as? I don't recall any bad consequences for NOW or Mary KKKeenan-Lacy.

I beleive she lost the DA race.

I beleive her agenda was squashed and her "client" had to pay legal fees (later changed).....

She succeeded in destroying Barnett's Colorado career..... but she certainly took her lumps...

She was term limited. She never lost. She's fine. No consequences for her whatsoever. Unless you count the fact that she's universally despised by all CU fans. I doubt she cares much about that.

she never did prosecute...

but did she assist in the civil suit?

I think we'd all take Neuheisel's level of success if we could.

just curious...

what is your take on Barnett... now that he is gone and maybe the wounds have healed?

He clearly was a BCS conference coach who belonged....

Yes, I believe she assisted and advised the girls. And the girls ended up getting $$ out of CU. Score one for her again...

The Boulder culture argument is a real one and a coach that does not fit in in Boulder will be villified and likely ousted, regardless of on-field performance.

It sucks, but that's the way it goes.

I still think he's an asshole.

He had some good moments as a coach. Surrounded by terrible moments as a coach. Both at Northwestern and at Colorado. A few good years and a few terrible years.

I think Barnett operated best in a "bunker" mentality (i.e. everyone is against us) and that mentality only works for so long.

What is a shame (for Barnett) is that he ran his mouth so much that his on-the-field performance couldn't cover for him. If he would have been a LITTLE MORE PC - I think he would have kept coaching at CU for a while.

Plus, after the recruiting scandal - he was pretty much damaged goods. I don't think he could coach the way he really wanted to. I also think it greatly affected his recruiting ability.

Not only did she assist, it was on her suggestion that the tramps pursued Title 9 suits.

That does not excite me much more than Hawkin's record. That is pretty mediocre. I hope thats not what we are striving for.

She investigated the plausibility of the title 9 prior to advising. According to some opinions she overstepped her bounds as DA by doing this.

Oh, I think she seriously overstepped. But there were no repurcussions to her for doing so.

It is clear to me that I should exit the conversation when I do not know what I am talking about :smile2:
