Alfred Williams: Fire Bohn.

On the fan.. 104.3

Said he's made two bad moves, firing Barnett and then hiring Dan Hawkins..

He shouldn't be allowed to screw it up a third time.

says the athletic department isn't any good..

Don't disagree Bohn looks bad but firing Barnett was not a mistake.. It was time to move on..

Firing Barnett was the right move. Hiring Hawkins was the move 90% of the ADs in the country would have made. Replace Barnett/Hawkins with Patton/Bzdelik and you can say roughly the same about the bball program.

Bohn deserves heat for extending Hawk and tons of heat if he keeps Hawk. Aside from that, Alfred is 110% wrong...

:stupid: Al gets a little overly verbose at times. He suffers from radio mouth.

I was on the Bohn wagon until he told me his pathetic and weak expectations for the program...the fact he's 100% content with CU being the Wisconsin (at best) of the Big XII leads me to belive that he's a problem too...just that we can't $hitcan them both at the same time...that's way too much to bite off a once, so let's fix the HC and worry about Bohnhead down the road

Nothing wrong with hiring Hawkins, just extending him.

At this point Bz seems to be working out, though it's a helluva lot easier to turn around a basketball team than it is a football team.

It's tough to hold Bohn accountable for his hires at Idaho and SDSU because they're, well, Idaho and SDSU. he did hire Cable, who, other than being a little wife beating bitch man, is actually a solid coach.

I think I see the angle Alfred is playing.. He wants one of his guys (EB, Embree) to be hired and he thinks going public against Bohn will put Bohn in a situation where Bohn will have to placate to the ex-players and his critics to simmer down the voices that are against Bohn..

If Bohn hires EB or Embree, Alfred will come on and say Bohn is a smart man..

Bohn is in a tough spot.. His guy totally flopped and he's allowed to pick another guy? The voices will continue to get louder once Talkins is removed from people that have their own agendas...

I was trying to figure out Alfred's angle and this makes sense.

Lets hope yu got this right!

I like Alferd - but he can be an idot

 He's talking from pure emotion right now. I would support an Embree hire, but he certainly wouldn't be the first coach I would think of, and just can't believe he would be Al's either. Hiring a coach with no coordinator experience just doen't sound like a good idea. And firing Bohn would be stupid.

I don't think you can rip Bohn for extending Hawkins. At the time, it looked like everything was on the upward trend. The business of NCAA football is ruthless and competitive. Bohn was at the point in Hawks contract where pressure was beginning to build. Extend or risk losing. Hey, Monday morning ADing is easy.

LOL.. Alfred says we should change the schedule for the new coach and downgrade it so we can get bowl eligible like the Okie States of the world and get someone like Smoky Hill High school on the schedule...

Quit ripping my old high school Alfred..

Agree with the schedule.. This year was the ideal nonconference schedule for this program with the exception of going to Toledo (rather play another home game)

Sounds good. We definitely have the money to buyout schedule contracts while simultaneously paying cupcakes. I see no flaws in this plan at all.

People on radio can say some stupid **** you should go back and see/hear what people in LA said when pete carroll was hired, they were calling for the AD to fired on the spot.

Well you can't change it now.. I get that..

Just saying in the future that is how Bohn should be making the schedule..

The schedules in the future after 2010 are actually pretty good. Some BCS teams, CSU, and some other MWC/WAC teams like Utah, Hawaii, and Fresno State. Not sure we have to schedule a D-1AA team every season.

That's good to hear.. We have over scheduled way too much this whole decade except for this year and 2004.

I think the nostalgia angle is way past its time and Alfred needs to be a voice of reason in this time, not live-in-the-past hysteria.

I like EB and Embree but I don't see anything they have done that would make me feel comfortable with them as the HC at CU. They need to be HC, or at least coordinator for a couple of years first before having a chance to take over at CU.

Here are some future years:

Utah

2013

@ Utah

2014
CSU
TBA
@ Oregon
Hawaii

2015

@ Hawaii
CSU

Agreed. I also like the fact that rarely ever play a FCS team, wasn't Montana State the first since the split?

CSU
ONE BCS program

MWC/WAC team

Div 1AA team..

That should be the nonconference schedule..

Screw ever playing 1AA team. What I do want to see is stop scheduling the home & home with MAC teams etc. I like the fact that we regularly play teams like Georgia, FSU, PAC 10 whatever. The road trips are great, and in theory playing a better nonconference schedule should prepare us better for Big 12 play.

Look what happened to KU & NU after their cupcake early schedule. All the sudden they have to play real teams and realize that they have many more problems than they thought.

Texas routinely plays cupcakes OOC and it cost them a shot at the BCS game last year. take out the Ohio State series and they play as soft a OOC as anyone. and rarely leave the state of Texas. supposedly, they've got some big home-homes coming up against LSU and someone else, forget, but still.

i don't know how many times you can play Rice and still call it "a traditional SWC rivalry" and not the cupcake it really is.

i think a formula approach as others have mentioned....CSU (though i could live without this one), one BCS conference marquis game (Oregon, WVU, UGA, etc) and a recruiting oriented mid-major and or WAC type-team (in Texas or Cali) works for me. San Jose State, San Diego State, Rice, SMU....etc,

Nebraska doesn't play the cupcake schedule everyone says they do.. they always play a BCS school every year in the nonconference..

Mac teams aren't just going to come to a 50,000 seat Boulder stadium and not ask for a return trip. They could go elsewhere and get a better payday..

Playing one tough team OOC is enough.

Play one team that you may or may not be favored against (1), CSU (2), a team that will be a tough game but one you are expected to win (3), and a bad team (4).

....Smoky Hill is already owned by Mullen, as they're our homecoming cupcake every year....CU will have to find its own whipping boy

It surprises me how tolerant you guys are with Bohn. I don't post often here but when I do I TRY to be balanced. But sport by sport -

- Agree with whoever above said that hiring Hawk made sense but extending him made no sense. If he had been winning and bigger programs came knocking, that means we'd be able to hang there with the big boys in matching their offers. The extension was perplexing at the time, aggravating in retrospect.
PS Barnett did have to go. We absolutely needed to move on.

- MBB - Patton needed to go too but by carrying him through a lame duck last season, he made the program suffer, the fans suffer, and Patton suffer, in that order. Helen Keller, if she were alive today (God rest her) would've seen that Patton was a dead man walking. Yet we couldn't come up with $800k to get a jump start on that program. You football-only fans are pissed about 4 losing seasons in a row? How about the distinct possibility of 4 seasons in a row of last place in the Big 12??? It didn't need to be that way.

- WBB - K. Mac is in her 5th year and she might survive but probably not. The program is showing signs of life, but she's in over her head. Mike has a real problem at the end of this season unless this team lights it up, which they will not.

- V. Ball - We went from sinking to sunk with Kritza. It's her first year but still, WOW.

- Tennis - wait, he yanked Tennis, even though we had enough in private pledges to keep the program going. I'm no tennis fan, but that kinda sucked.

Thankfully he's kept his hands off Cross Country and Skiing.

Sorry you guys, I'm just not seeing it. The timing is bad now, but I fear for us with him making the next football hire. If Mike is a smart man he brings in Bill McCartney to have the (virtual) final say in this hire. Say what you will about Mac - he knows how to spot talent.
