Bohn: Regrets hiring Hawkins.

Given Hawk's record at BSU, I would say he easily qualifies as one of the biggest, if the not the biggest, coaching hire busts of recent memory. I doubt Bohn is very happy with his decision right now. Hawk has put alot of pressure on MB

C'mon, that's ridiculous. Hawk's win-loss record could hardly be worse, but he's recruited OK and if he's fired, the program won't be in dire straits. Compare that to the train wreck left at Washington after the Neuheisal/Willingham cluster ****. What about Ron Prince? Gene Chizik at ISU? That's just off the top of my head.

Wins matter, and I assume Hawk will lose his job because he has too few, but other things matter as well and on those things Hawk gets good grades. I think anybody who would rather have a couple of 10 win seasons with a Neuheisal and accept all the other damage done is crazy.

And before the Hawk eradication folks jump down my throat, I do realize that CU deserves a coach who wins and does all the other things to build a program and that those coaches exist and CU can find one. That doesn't mean we need to ignore the positive things that the current coaches
have done and leave behind.

Sure the decision hurts now because he has to make a change. But if you go back 4 years, everyone in the country thought CU made a huge jump in coaching when Hawk was announced. He was the up and comer that everyone new was going to take a BCS conference school job. Nobody saw this coming and very few objected. Those that did object did so because they were staunch GB supporters. Any rewrite of history does not help out now.

If you consider recruiting being in the 40's every year okay. The 2008 #15 Rivals class has dropped to that level too, having lost a 5, 4, and 2 3 star players from it.

Yes, recruiting could've been better, but there's none of the wacky lack of lineman, etc. that we've seen in the past. Also, I don't think you can complain about Major, Miller, Givens, and Kasa coming to CU.

I'm just sayin' that the win/loss record, while depressing and ultimately inexcusable, doesn't mean that everything the guy touched was crap. I'm thinking [and hoping] that in a year or two, if CU hires the right coach, we may all be looking back and saying how grateful we are for Hawk's recruits.

I have no problem thinking that these players are capable of winning 7-9 games with a good coach and staff.

I agree with NYC. If Hawk is fired, he has upgraded the talent level on the team. I think we have pretty solid talent almost everywhere now. Really young still but solid. As for the recruiting rankings? In my not-so-humble opinion this is really paint-by-number infotainment for football novices so that they can feel some level of intelligence since they lack a basic knowledge of the fundamentals. High recruiting classes have not helped Charlie Weiss the last couple of years. Also, if the last 5 years of recruiting rankings are taken as "gospel", USC shouldn't lose a game until 2013.

I think he has done a decent enough job off the field. I don't think we have any negative aura surrounding us anymore, thanks to Hawk zen power! His recruiting has been decent, hard to say he has brought in the big time talent as some of them didn't make it into school or have left, but talent is on the roster. The bodies are there this time and we won't be running into 6 lineman with 5 spots or something of that magnitude.

At the time it was hard to argue that Hawk was not a good hire. He was the "hot" candidate, had won a lot of games at BSU, was popular with the media, and had developed a reputation for working with the donors and supporters of his program.

Coming off of Barnett, who I still also have a great deal of respect for, he was seen as much more open and personable (of course Barnett could come off at times like hugging a porcupine.)

What the hiring of Hawk proves again is that there is no such thing as a sure thing when you are hiring coaches. Until a guy proves he is the guy with wins, nobody can be sure that a hire is going to work. We are not the only school that this has happened to. Look at OU between Switzer and Stoops, Texas before Brown, Alabama after the Bear, Notre Dame, Washington, USC between Robinson and Carroll, Michigan with RichRod and to many more to count or list.

Hawk was arguably the best qualified candidate at the time, he came in and gave it his best, he failed. It is time to more another direction but if we had not hired Hawk it is very likely that some other school (maybe higher profile than CU) would be dealing the same situation right now.

It was a joke, people. Chill.

Honestly I'm sick and ****ing tired of people only coming to allbuffs to make jokes about things. It's just ridiculous. I can't read one thread without someone making a joke then five other people piping in their own stupid ****ing comebacks or FIFY's. I come here to read about and discuss CU athletics, not laugh and frolick in a field. There's a "new jokes" thread for a ****ing reason. Go post jokes over there if you don't care about talking seriously. ****ing ****.

Did you take your Vitamin D today, Rugged? I had the same kind of day yesterday but they have not linked the forensic evidence to me at this point. :wow:

Is this a joke?, if so....

If not,

Joke or not, this quote is an instant classic, "I come here to read about and discuss CU athletics, not laugh and frolick in a field."

I agree that was pretty good...kudos to Rugged, whoever you may, or may not be....

I think someone needs to post it in it's own thread. I am too lazy and lack the basic skills necessary to do this since I am over 35 years of age. I recommend something like, "Rough and Rugged: A contrarian view of humor." SnowBuff I picture you as an enterprising young 20-something not unlike my own employees. Sounds like a great task for you, brother.

You'll fit in better over at Netbuffs. Only serious bizness there.

Thanks for dropping by. :wink2:

Come on now. 95% of my posts aren't serious. You two just don't know me very well, do you? :sad1::smile2:

Thanks for inspiring my new avatar!

Brother, your secret is safe with me. :smile2: You deserve a reward for the "frolick in the field" comment. Anyone who can use the word "frolick" while feigning anger is clearly an internet "outlier."

Haha thanks. I didn't think it would be so well-liked.

If we can't laugh, we may cry.
