What should we do?

Is there anything us fans can do to show our displeasure with the fact Hawkins will be returning next season?

Im withholding money from the school until there is a new HC in place. I just feel like there isn't anything I can do but go around angry and disappointed with the news.

I cant take another season, we're not going to get better until he is gone.

What is going to happen barring a miraculous turnaround at the start of next year is that Folsom is going to be less than full and donations will tighten up.

Bohn & co. can not point to "improvement" as they did after 2007. They can't say "this year was just a fluke down year, 2009 is the year we blow up" as was insinuated in 2008.

These guys are past put up or shut up. Put up or shut up was this year... at any other school. People are going to simply stop giving a **** about the program because it is going to become completely entrenched as a losing program next year if it isn't already.

The only chance for next year to be a respectable season was with a new head coach who knew what he was doing at the reins. Our schedule next year is much more difficult than it is this year. This staff is flat-out incapable of winning on the road or beating teams they are supposed to beat with any consistency.

How is Bohn going to get his heavy-hitting donors to pony up money next year? People aren't stupid. Hawkins has virtually no supporters left except that 10-20% or so who will support him no matter what. I doubt that many of the high dollar donors fall into that category.

What I am getting at is that attendance and donations will become an issue. There is no spin here. The only way that there aren't major $$ issues next year is if this team wins a lot, which, in my view, is extremely, extremely unlikely.

How many times are we going to get on TV next year? CSU, Cal and UGA and the fusker game are the only times we may be on TV.

That's going to suck and will be a huge hit for us financially.

Want to get rid of a coach... there are a few things to do. Its all about the money, and once tickets stop being sold, and donors stop giving to the program, that will wake the administration up. In addition, fans showing displeasure is also a useful tactic. The blue out was a nice start, but it has to go beyond 1000 or so fans wearing blue. At Arkansas when we wanted to fire Nutt we had over 20,000 fans wear Fire Nutt shirts to a game... also donated to have banners flown over the stadium... people called us crazy but it worked. If anything is going to happen then the fans need to make it known that the state of the program is not ok, and that mediocrity won't be accepted anymore.

Nutt is having a pretty good year at Ole Miss not sure I would celebrate getting Nutt out of there yet. But I will give you credit for the methods of getting rid of your coach; it did work.

Ole Miss went from preseason #6 to unranked... they had a chance at a title with the way their schedule lined up for them, and they have underachieved... oh and he is doing it all with Orgeron's players. Just like he did at Arkansas his first two years... in '98 we were awesome, '99 returned the same team and underachieved... classic Nutt. Next year once all those guys graduate, Ole Miss will be awful.

Game tomorrow how bout some boos whenever Talkins is sharing an ad on the jumbotron. same with Bohn. Wearing the powder blue tomorrow as well. Tomorrow might be ugly but wait til next year if we do even worse than this year which seems like a strong possibility.

feels like the AD is blackmailing you as a fan. either you have to quit something you care about or line up to support a guy you don't believe in (in terms of actual football coaching).

'd love to see hawk/anybody turn it around but empirically speaking i see no reason to expect anything but what we've already seen: hawk winning 3-5 games next year, talking about himself a lot and/or the football team in terms that are nonsensical or just plain cheesy catch phrases (putting wind under the players' wings? Isn't that a Bonnie Tyler song?). fluff and bluster instead of fundamentals and any shred of accountability when things go south.

I really dont understand, what is wrong with Houston Nutt as a coach?

Why did you guys dislike him so much? Arkansas isn't Alabama, he had some good seasons and some challenging ones, but the program produced some pretty good college players over the years.

You guys forced your coach out after a 7-4 season, makes me wish that Colorado had as strong of a devoted fan support.

i'm not answering for the Hog fan because he knows more about it than me doubtlessly, but there was the whole Mitch Mustain/Gus Malzahn fallout. Mustain was a 5 star QB who left the program under Nutt's watch. not unlike our own recent 5 star defector, there is a wake of turmoil that reflects on the HC.

I think I will take a couple years off - go to the mountains and hike or mtn bike on those Fall days.

If you really want the truth of what went on here it is. http://www.realhognews.blogspot.com/

Its a long read but will explain what was really going on at AR under Nutt.

It would seem to me that, other than the obvious withholding of funds from the university, two of the biggest things that would grab the attention of the person occupying the head coach position, the AD and the administration in attendance would be a) empty seats, and b) absolute, teatotal silence. No cheering, no boos, NOTHING. Couple that with a few dozen bedsheet sized signs saying something to the effect of (paraphrasing) "This treatment is aimed at the coaching staff, the Athletic Department, and the Administration of the University of Colorado."

Seriously, ask parents who've tried it on their kids. The silent treatment works. And since the staff, AD and Admin of CU have shown themselves to be no more capable of intelligent decision making than children......

Here's what you do:

Take the money you would normally spend on season tickets, donations, etc. and put it into a savings account. Send a letter to CU, respectful in tone, and tell them you are not going to contribute a donation or purchase season tickets, due to the decision to retain Dan Hawkins.

Then, the next year - if a change is made - you take the money that was going to be used last year, and you donate it to CU. In that way, CU really isn't losing out on any money. They are just losing out on money RIGHT NOW.

I'd expect the OU and Texas Tech games as well.....

maybe Mizzou ....

We'll get national broadcast, ESPN and FSN television exposure next year in the majority of our games. Aside from CSU, the rest will be strictly on the strength of who we play.

I'm in a hell of a spot, as financially I would stand to be able to attend more games than I did this year. The **** part is, my ticket benefits an administration whose decisions I do not support - yet a team that I do and always will. ****in' catch-22.

Someone suggested putting the money you would have spent into an account and waiting until they 'figure it out'... I'm not organized enough for that... but its a good idea

The alternative is to donate just to the school of your choice (i.e., school of business, school of engineering, etc.)

Well, that is your choice and I don't disagree with it. Ive been PMd by a couple of others that plan on taking this route.

Where were at now Hawk is a done deal. This season is done for. Support the team, root for a win, hope for the best.

We should probably pipe down a bit too until recruiting is over. I too am hard pressed to believe that the team will be better next year but you never know. We have good talent coming back at most positions. If they can fix the line of scrimage a lot more success will fall into place.

Why would you give to academia when those were the guys that made the decision to keep Hawkins?

The AD needs our support more than ever in order to become financially strong enough to have some leverage and control its own decision-making again.

I understand the anger and frustration. But I don't get the "I'm not going to renew my season tickets" or "I'm going to stop donating money" or "I'm going to the game, but am going to be silent" stuff. It just seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. But it is your perogative and I know you are all huge Buff fans. I just think the program needs everyone's support more than ever. The best thing for the program at this point is that Hawkins turns it around. I think there are a handful of people that WANT him to fail just because they don't like him and so they can justify bitching.

As a Callahan survivor I agree with this post 100%. Your school needs you more than ever. the blue outs make most sense to me, send a message but be supportive.

I don't want Hawkins to fail since he's going to be here for another year. I wanted him to fail towards the end of the year so he'd lose his job.

But now that it is set in stone that DH is coming back, and he's proven to put a crappy product on the field, why bother spending the money? At that point its charity for the AD and gives Bohn's position of being "satisfied with being mediocre" clarification and insults this fanbase. Bohn is running CU athletics like a business, but running an athletic department or a professional sports team is about balancing the sports aspect with the business aspect. Billionaires don't buy professional sports teams anymore for the investment. The return on the investment these days is minimum if anything at all. They buy it because they want to see a city's team succeed because most of the time an owner has an interest in city pride and thats usually most reflected in sports. Same goes for college athletics too. Bohn is running CU like a business so he's going to feel the fanbase's reaction to his "business" decisions. If he's satisfied with a sh*tty product on the field he has to be ready to accept the fact that most people won't waste their money and certainly won't give it to an incompetent athletic department.

I like the idea about with holding money until something occurs. Donating your season ticket money to other aspects that improve CU is good too.

That was my feeling too. Unfortunately, the targets of the message managed to twist it around and convince the players it was actually aimed at them.... :sad2:

I'm thinking of wearing powder blue to the OU and Cal games. Yup. Tired of Hawk and his bull****. Shut the **** up and win.
