Bohn's Job Performance

My impression is that most Buffs fans consider Bohn a good manager of the Athletic Department budget, a good marketer of the programs, and a good steward in terms of making sure that we run clean programs. On the negative side, most Buffs fans consider him poor at hiring winning coaches and poor at negotiating contracts (Hawkins' extension, MAC/ESPN change from Miami(OH) to Toledo, revenue split/Invesco commitment for CSU series, etc.).

My question is:

If both Men's and Women's basketball have winning records and play in postseason tournaments this year, does your opinion of his hiring abilities change? Or, is football simply king and it would take a few consecutive winning seasons from Hawkins or the next guy to change your opinion?

As a follow up, would getting a corporate sponsor for the football stadium and the private funding for the basketball/volleyball practice facility improve your opinion of Bohn's job performance?

* Also, if you differ from the impression I had of the average Buffs fan please note that.

He may be just a victim of the economy, perhaps he wanted to get rid of Hawkins but couldn't pull the trigger right now, maybe he had some feelers out there for potential replacements that he wanted and he was turned down?

I think success in basketball would go a long way in helping Bohn. I also think that him actually getting ground broken on the new b-ball facility would be a major accomplishment. Let's face it, the AD needs something big to happen right now.

I also think it will be interesting to see what happens this offseason for football. If there is a token change to the coaching staff, I think that is going to reflect poorly on Bohn. As Jasper said in another thread, Bohn needs to sit down with Hawkins and have a honest dialogue about the performance of the assistant coaches.

the toledo thing is only a big deal because we lost (in a big BIG way). honestly, i think it's a great move. Bohn gets Colorado on exclusive national TV 3 of 4 weeks in a row which is awesome for a team ready to break out. national alums, recruits, etc

Hawkins was the right hire at the time. it was the "hot" hire. sucks for us, he's no good. no one knew.

This. Bohn is doing a pretty good job I think, the hiring of Hawk sucked, but I liked it at the time and so did almost everyone else. The thing that sucks was his decision to give him the extension and him failing to keep the buyout low.

I'm reserving judgment to see how this renegotiation of Hawks contract goes and to see if any new coaches come in this year...

I'm with you there... I'm curiuos to see what, if any, staff changes are made. If the rumors are true about the 'real' decision-maker on Hawk, it would seem that Bohn was played a puppet by the CU Admin... At least in this case.

He could have told him we can start the conversation now and ink a deal at the completion of the 2009 season. Woulda, shoulda, coulda.
