Which Buffs go Pro?

From all the chatter, all signs point to Jimmy testing the waters. Most of his best friends on the team were seniors this year. If he's told that he projects 4th round or higher, he's likely gone. With the NFL probably having a new CBA for 2011 that includes a hard cap with slotted salaries for draft picks, a 4th round contract in 2010 may be as valuable as a late 2nd/early 3rd contract in 2011. So it comes down to where he'd be slotted and whether a senior year at CU could improve his draft status to the point it made a tangible financial difference.

No one else will leave early.

Geer and Cha'pelle should get a shot with someone. I'm struggling to think anyone else has a real chance. Not sure Smart or Mohler move on and I don't know that Burton will catch on as a 265lb linebacker.

Our DB depth will be scary if Jimmy leave early...as if we don't have enough to worry about.

I agree. Deji would need to grow up in a hurry. Fortunately, all the practice observers say he's the real deal.

I'd think that Cha'pelle would get drafted. Geer maybe depending on which teams need a TE or think they convert him to play on the OL. Smart and Mohler make it as UDFA at worst.

I got slammed on the Rivals board for suggesting the coaches dropped the ball in developing this kid. He should definitely be higher on the draft board at TE.

Well, coach Riddle was a bit distracted with special teams.

Geer is a bit too slow for TE in the NFL imo. He'd also be a project to move to the OL. I think he could convert into a HBack.

He's got a big frame and he's got soft hands and he makes clutch catches. I think he'd fit on the right team. It seems like the wildcat is coming into vogue and doesn't seem to utilize the TE though Im not really sure about that. If true then it will be tough sledding for the TEs breaking into the NFL over the next few years.

I hope you're correct.

Man. We'd miss Smith a lot, but it appears that he needs to jump if he is indeed in the top 4 rounds as suggested.

I agree, the te's we had should have been more involved. Unfortunately, many players aren't being developed.

Jsmith as long as he grades out 4 and above..

Of the seniors, I think Geer and Burney have the best shot, but if Burton puts up good #s, he could go the way of Brad Smith from last year and get in as a UFA.

I just don't see JSmith getting drafted very high if he leaves early. He is a talent and physical specimen, but I just don't think he's done all that much to get drafted early.

If you have potential and test well for NFL teams, college production can often become an afterthought. If there is one thing JSmith has going for him, it is great athleticism. At least one of 32 teams is going to be tempted. I do not think he is ready for the NFL, but it would not shock me at all to see a team that does not need him to be a starting CB right away to draft him.

But what if he just wants out?

That could change things dramatically...

He was actually drafted in the 7th round...

Burton will get invited to camp, cha'pelle will be a late rounder, burney will get a camp invite, smart too, mohler's football days are done. Geer will be drafted mid rounds at least, he brings a lot for a TE and patrick devany (sp) might even get an invite to a camp.

How fast is JSmith? If he puts up a great 40 time, he could go before R4. If he's got average CD speed, then he probably stays another year.

Justin Drescher - 100% sure on this.

Never had a problem with long snaps. The guy will be in the league for a LONG, LONG time if he gets drafted.
:iagree:

Snappers virtually never get drafted but that is an advantage since he and his agent can pick the right situation. And you are right, don't screw up the snap, be good in coverage, be a good teammate and you stick around long enough to get a nice pension.

Why would Smart get better looks than Mohler? Mohler is a better LB than Smart IMO and quite a bit more athletic.

He would if he was a kickoff or punt returner along with his CB duties..

I dont' see it..

He is a good talent at CB, teams will take a lot of interest. ALso Jimmy Smith will get drafted if he leaves, not that high, but he would be taken in the late rounds.

I doubt Chappelle gets drafted, he's just too small. I don't know what Jimmy will run and jump, but he's a really good cover corner. Another year would be best for him, but if he grades out as a 4th or so, he should probably leave. I could see Burton getting some attention, his size speed combo will be hard to ignore for some NFL execs. Geer seems too slow to get drafted, he could catch on as a free agent, though. Burney and Smart are good college players, but I don't think their skills translate to the NFL well. Smart is far too slow. Burney tackles pretty well and has experience as CB and S so that could interest some teams. He'll need to test well, though.

I think Burton and Chap will be the ones who sniff the field on Sundays next fall.
