So why would anybody believe Bohn...

when he says he wants to win?

IMO, any credibility Bohn had went out the window when Hawk was retained. If it was really forced on Bohn, he should resign and look for a job at a school that wants to win.

If it was his call, he should be fired.

:congrats:

And then he says on 9News (this is in another thread) that money was not the issue when it was decided to bring back Talkins. WHAT?!? You've got to be kidding me.

To be fair, he is saying pretty much what he has to say. Should he be honest and say, " I wanted to fire this worthless SOB, but because of political winds out of my control I'm stuck with him for another year."?

I tend to agree, and he can show how serious he really is about winning if he forces Hawkins to make some changes this offseason. If we go into next season looking pretty much the same, Bohn's credibility is pretty much shot IMO.

Well, his job does, at some point, depend on it, doesn't it?

His contract is up in 2010. I wonder if either party will want him to be the CU AD afterwards. However the hawk retention situation went, both stories add up to NO MORE BOHN after his contract runs out.

That is precisely what a resignation would say to the rest of the world. If I'm looking to hire an AD, MB dropped to the bottom of the list this past week. He could rehab himself by resigning and the way things went down would be clear.

Right now he looks like a yes man. A yes man with a contract that expires in 5 months and an admin that treats him like a lackey apparently.

If I were advising MB, I'd tell him to resign and let the talking heads that ordered up the this cluster handle it...

A lot of people are quick to be yes-men if the job depends on it. While your scenario sounds noble, most professionals place a priority on career ascension, and going rogue as you suggest can derail one permanently.

(As far as we know) The guy is doing what he can short of quitting, hard to fault him imo.

I'll admit I don't know the whole story, but if the admin cut MB off at the knees, IMO, he should resign and go somewhere else. How can he run the AD if his boss is going to micromanage him? What kind of vote on his job performance is it to overrule him and not extend his contract? Again, I don't know if that is how it went down, but MB ought to sack up here IMO.

I've met MB in passing, and he seems like a good joe, and he does the fundraising gig pretty well. I just find this decision from an athletic perspective indefensibile. Hawk's results on the field are ABYSMAL.

Lefty, CU is Mike's dream job. He is a Boulder native (GO PANTHERS!), with his extended family in or near Boulder/Denver. Even though he played ball at KSU, he is a Buff.

Basically, he's going to put up with more than the usual amount of crap that bosses (DiStephano, Benson, Regents) throw at their workers.

I know. Actually I think MB played at KU. Be that as it may, IF, he got his knees cut out from under him, he is looking really bad here. I don't know if that is how it went down, but if it was, he will spend the next year wearing the dunce cap since most will think it was his decision to keep Hawk.

I actually feel bad for him, especially when he has to go on various media and spout the party line. He just looks foolish IMO, nobody believes the **** he has to shovel on this one. I admired how he went on every radio show at the end of the season and took the heat. His decision to extend Hawk , in retrospect, was a bad one, and he did not shy away from the spot light there. It is another thing all together to take heat for somebody else's stupid decision and be neutered in how you run your department to boot.

What does Bohn make? $400k? Those type of gigs don't grow on trees. An idealist might be able to quit on principle here, but a pragmatist wouldn't.

There is too much information that we DONT know to judge Bohn.

Of course Mike Bohn wants to win. Silly question, really.

He definitely wants to win, though, within certain parameters for his athletic teams (no NCAA violations, getting good grades, giving service to the community, and obeying the law).

I'm still hopeful that we can win championships while doing things the right way.

As I understand it The Scandal, while being mostly unfounded in any real wrong doing, exposed an Athletic Department with a lack of oversight and accountability. The biggest transgressions were the size, timing, and nature of GBs extension and Tharps gross overstatement of fund raising successes. The athletic department was changed from accountable to the Regents to accountable to the Chancellor. Tharp was no longer on his own island and Bohn by extension.

If my contract ran out in 5 or 6 months I probably would not quit. I'd think that he has some bonuses or incentives due to him for revenue and fund raising thats already occurred. Negotiations for a new contract probably start soon or are underway. I might see what I can get or I might say not interested and Im outta here at the end of the contract. Other side of it is Bohn is from here and probably has family here and may not be interested in getting exactly what he wants.

Here's a crazy idea...what if we actually win next year and keeping Hawk turns out to be the right move??? Should Bohn resign anyway? Bohn has been a tireless advocate for the program and the school. The job isn't easy, and he's done it better than most would. Bohn is not the problem IMO, and I think we need to let this decision play out before calling for his head too.

It sounds like his contract expires at the end of the winter term. He might not be here next year to see that by his own choice.
