USC vs. UCLA final minute

With less than a minute to go...

Harbaugh, Neuweasel and Carroll aren't playing by the Golden Rule, are they?

Neuheisel called a TO, and had 3 TOs to try to get the ball back. Caroll saw that Neuheisel was going to try to force a punt and played to finish the game. Both coaches were playing to the end of the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

The only problem comes when USC over celebrates, but hey, it's a rivalry game.

This is much ado about nothing, and hardly close to bush league.

Hilarious. Rick had it coming for previous years of douchebaggery. I said in another thread that it looked to me like PC had no idea that they were going to throw a bomb, but it looks like he talked to Bates during the timeout, so I'm sure he knew what was going down. Either way, Rick had it coming, PC earned some new fans in Colorado and Washington with that play.

I kept looking for the youtube clip of Harbaugh sticking it to Carroll earlier in the season when he went for a two-point conversion, but couldn't find it.

Found this satire, though. I sort of like the idea of the cross-town rivalry, or the three-way with Stanford thrown in for measure.

I did find this one of Carroll for the lip readers in the crowd.

In the clip, they are whispering and conspiring, and after the play, Carroll finds Bates and gives him a man-hug.

Well, to cap my Pete Carroll obsession for the night...

Yeah, when I saw it live I didn't notice he talked to him during the timeout though. Lead me to think that he didn't know about the play, judging by his reaction to the ball in the air, then was ecstatic when it went for a TD, hugging his OC. Either way, he definitely knew it was coming. I don't see why anyone really has a problem with this, what Harbaugh did seemed more out of line. This felt like more of a PC telling Rick to know his place in town.

I don't have a problem with it, I think the Westwood-Los Angeles feud is hilarious.

And anything, ANYTHING bad happening to Slick Rick is only karma winding its slippery tendrils around the greasy bit of seaweed that serves as his soul, reminding him there is always a debt to be repaid.

On one hand you could say poor sportsmanship by carroll and he can be a jerk but we are talking slick rick here and he called the to.

Remember Oregon in 95 , cu fake punted with a 31-6 lead and scored a few plays later to make it 38-6.

Hey rick, the monopoly isn't over.

Does running up the score (within reason) really amount to poor sportsmanship? I have never bought that line of reasoning. Sure, it can go overboard at some point, but I have no problem with this situation.

Depends, imo. If it's North Texas vs <top 5 team> in a money game then after a while it's bad if you are still throwing up by 45 points, maybe even having your first stringers in.

If it's against someone in your conference or against the same level of competition then it's fair. Among the teams that are able to do this you have guys like Meyer and Stoops who will let it rain, while there are guys like Carrol, Brown and Tressel that don't and just run the ball once the game is secured to shorten it. The latter will still score if provoked though, like a TO or the other team still having their first stringers and throwing the ball in the 4th down by 28 (see Hawk).

Edit: The consequence is that if you do this enough when teams get a chance they'll get their revenge. kNU did it for years and years and when they sucked they got lit up hard by TT, KU and us multiple times. What goes around....

PC reacts that way to every TD...maybe this was a little more celebratory, but he always gets excited by TDs.

And one thing Carroll doesn't do is run up the score like Texass does all the time no matter who they are playing.

Umm Texas doesn't run up the score. They pull their guys in the middle of the 3rd if they are up big. When they played us and put up 70 it was in the middle of the 3rd :)wow:) and we still had Klatt in "trying to keep it close."

The only time Texas will put up a big score is against OU since Stoops has shown no mercy.

Last year UT could have named the score against us in Boulder. They stopped.

Well, whatever, either way PC knew it was coming so he can't plead ignorance. I thought it was hilarious and Rick had it coming for calling the timeout.

This has been getting tons of run in So Cal. I think its hilarious. The kind of fight nobody wants to break up.

It almost seems both of them wanted something like this...add excitement to the rivalry.

I sure like it that both teams wear their home unis again for this game. It looks good and makes a connection to the "old days".
