Mangino officially "resigns"

SO not only is KU a road game next year, but it's also against what will be a first year staff. I know which way my money's going that weekend! LOL

Mangino would be a "hot commodity" as an OC.

Especially for a guy like Charlie Strong if he took the Louisville job since he needs someone to run the offense. ASU just canned their OC as well.

He would also be a good candidate for alot of the HC jobs out there like UNLV, but I wouldn't put it past Youngstown State to go after him pretty hard. They don't pay as much for HC as an OC at FBS division would but it is his alma-mater and a "football factory" school.

Wonder if we can fire Watson's ass and hire Mangino...............can't imagine Bo and him on the same team. Kids might get lit on fire from the screaming!

This is somewhat off topic but do schools look at things like Mangino being morbidly obese and approach with caution? I know we joke about his weight a lot but that dude is a ticking time bomb, particularly with the way he wired as a screamer and tightly wound coach.

I would think so, he is a walking health risk

This factored in more to his firing than anything you'll ever read publicly. While it wasn't the main thing, they really worried about him passing during an early-season game when its still really hot. The berating of players and others was the perfect excuse needed to avoid a funeral at halftime.

The next school he coaches at should work a gastric bypass into the contract. He agrees to get one as a bonus.

A lapband surgery already didn't take. The person has to want to lose weight for this kinda stuff to work.

The North has just gotten much worse with his departure. Pinkel and Pelini are now frothing at the mouth and Pinkel isn't a very good coach. We need to make a serious run for it next year.

Not really off topic at all. As OKC said it will never be talked about but there were multiple rumblings KU had genuine concerns about his health and were kind of looking for an out. This "incident" gave KU the ammo it needed to force him out.

Sucks that they would go to these lengths of denigrating him the way they did to get out from under his contract. I mean, with the way this got dispalyed in the press it makes Mangino look like some kind of ogre. And not the "Shrek" kind...

One of my cousins who lives in Lawrence said that Mangino had been told by the AD from day one that he needed to get a handle on his weight and that he basically thumbed his nose at them from the day he was hired. And they have known of his anger management issues since his 1st year as HC. The team physician had also made comments to the AD that the combination of his weight and his short temper was a massive heart attack waiting to happen. Tim also mentioned (this part he said was the rumor on the streets of Lawrence) that during the so called internal investigation that the AD would agree to keep him on as the HC if he would take anger management and weight loss therapy but he refused, citing that it would consume to much time from recruiting and other related duties to the HC position. WTF? If any of this is true, this guy IMO will not get an offer from any school unless he contractually agrees to a release of liability and some sort of weight loss and anger management therapy.
