Kansas Coach Gill lets go of their WR coach David Beaty.

I've been pimping this guy for weeks. This would be an absolute homerun hire for Hawkins. Immediate impact in the DFW area for recruiting. Maybe even this class. If I'm Hawkins, I'm on the phone tonight.

We should tweet him about it..

All I know is something has to change.. This staff isn't recruiting well enough whether its the head coach or the assistants. Doing nothing is not an option in my mind.

We need to get at least 5 DL, 3 OL, 2 RB, and 3 CB's to fill up some holes in this class.. And I don't mean just some bodies that would be going to Div 1AA programs.. We need some legit BCS football players..

Wow, I'm surprised Gill didn't retain this guy. Hopefully Hawk is on the phone with him as we speak, unless of course Koetter is coming in.

Excellent Point!

Maybe someone can give us his phone number and we can make the call. Hawkins knows he could make a impact here, but won't because he didn't think of it!:smile2:

I know a lot of us were looking for Hawkins to make some coaching changes, but it also seems like it could be tough to bring a guy in on a 1 yr contract given the status. Other than Riddle, I'm not sure we could do better in this environment given the thin ice Dan is on. So here's another idea.

Mangino takes a 1 year consultant role to Kiesau. Kiesau is improving but still green. Hawk isn't firing him because he was green when he hired him.

Mangino is smart and proven, but has a few "issues" that may prevent too many big programs from jumping on him right now. Bring him in as a consultant and he can work with the coaches, not really the players. Turns around the Buff offense, and of course, his value just goes up and he lands another HC job somewhere. Doubt he wants to take an O-C job somewhere else after being a HC. This buys him time and helps develop Kiesau.

Mangino is making a boatload of cash from KU. This also allows him to "get a crack at the Jayhawks".... No denying this guy can coach the offense. Assumes his buyout from KU doesn't prevent him from coaching or consulting in the B12 for some period of time....

Input?

No chance on the Mangino idea. For a host of reasons, but bottom line is that he and Hawkins are oil and water personalities.

Back to Beaty, look at the classes he brought into Rice in his 2 years there and the commitments he's secured for Kansas in his 1 year. He would immediately be the best recruiter on the CU staff.

I'm with BB - this just makes WAY too much sense to actually happen. I'm not so much pessimistic about the Buffs future as despondent - I'm not expecting anything great anytime soon. Koetter and Beatty make a lot of sense...not going to happen.

True, Mangino actually cares about winning. He had the odd idea as HC he was supposed to put his team in aposition to win, that won't mix with the Hawk love merit badge system.

Beatty (sp?) would be a great pick up and make good sense, therefore I doubt it will happen.

I dunno, I do not think Mangino's approach was the right way either. There can be a happy medium. Some of the stuff that came out on Mangino was pretty bad. I would not be comfortable with him on this coaching staff.

MM probably is not a good fit in Boulder, I agree. His approach, flawed or not, focused on winning. I have no idea what Hawk wants...other than his paycheck.

He converted a former qb in to a pretty good Wr. I think his name was Meyer. We need a few guys on staff who can develop the talent we have. Its just as important as recruiting. With this guy you might have both.

His approach wasn't flawed, it was WRONG. The kind of abuse he doled out is always inapproapriate for a football coach. I hope he never gets another coaching job anywhere.

I agree with 96 on this one. While MM certainly won some games at Kansas, it came at a price. I have no issues with a coach being a hardass or a SOB at times, but MM crossed a line.

First off, I am not defending MM. But you have to wonder why all this stuff was a non-issue until Big Lew decided the fat man had to go. Then all of the sudden stories appear. Stories that involve events from years ago. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. The fat man probably was a dick. He probably was abusive at times. BFD.

I had plenty of abuse heaped on me by FB coaches over the years. I've had employers be abusive. Man up, we live in such a pussified society these days...

If I were AD and I heard my FB HC was behiving that way, I'd take a hard look at canning him too, but let's not act like he's some sort of loathsome criminal.

When you verbally attack players by going after a recent death in their family or their upbringing by an alcoholic father (two different allegations), that goes way beyond normal abuse. If you need to resort to **** like that to "motivate" players, whom you are supposed to help mentor, you do not deserve much respect at all. Has nothing to do with a pussified society.

Like I said above, I'm not defending him. He sounds like a dick. He lost his job over it. That's good enough for me, I'm not going to say I hope he never gets another job coaching or act like he's Jeffrey Dahmer.

I think it looks a little like a PR campaign that all this stuff comes out in one fell swoop. It may all be true for all I know, I just don't see it as such a big deal.

Can we also agree that Mangino's personality would not be a good fit in Boulder (regardless of Hawkins being here or not)?
