Coaching Carousel...

He apparently grabbed a player and slapped him. It was also a question of why players' stories changed throughout the investigation into the incident.

In the end, it sounds like his act was wearing thin on many around the program and many were questioning if USF could ever take the next step under him (he had a losing record in the Big East the last two seasons).

Okay, if the player abuse thing is legit, fine.

But take the next step under him? He snuck in under the noses of some of the greatest football programs in American and built a program, overnight, that could compete with just about anybody. They're gonna miss him, if they were just being wistful.

Patton was once reprimanded for slapping a soldier. It was stupid then. It's stupid now. Sometimes, you just need to slap a guy.

Hmmm...aren't Mangino, Leach, and Leavitt all linked to each other through some six degrees of separation type thing? Didn't they all work together one someone's staff at one time or another (maybe Stoops at Oklahoma?) I'm not sure - if someone could help out that'd be great. If they have worked with each other (not even all 3 at once) it makes for a very interesting correlation/coincidence.

Mangina and Leech worked on Stoops' staff at OU. Leavitt, I know, worked for Grandma Snyder at KjSU. I'm not aware that he was at OU, but I suppose it's entirely possible....

I really want USF to hire Leech, just to see if he decides to coach the games from the deck of the Pirate Ship in the end zone.....

Maybe Leavitt and Stoops were together at KjSU at the same time which would explain why I thought there would be a connection. Still interesting though that there may be the common link in Stoopsie - gotta wonder if OU has been looking the other way on complaints about Stoops - pure conjecture - highly doubt it.

Leach standing on the bow of the pirate ship calling plays would be absolutely hilarious! YAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH! Ban 'em to Davy Jones' Locker, matie!

Mangino, Stoops & Leavitt were all at KJSU, (apparently), and Stoops, Mangino and Leach were all at OU. So yes, it would appear that there is a connection between them. So I guess that means Stoops is about to get fired for abusing his players.

Holy crap! Just heard on ESPN that Jim Mora has been fired as the Seahawks coach and their #1 candidate for replacement is......drum roll....PETE CARROLL!

WOW! Will this ever kick the carousel into high speed if it happens. Mortensen reported that Carroll is VERY INTERESTED and is assembling a staff that includes Jeremy Bates as OC. WOW, just WOW!

:scared2::wow::jawdrop:

Caroll leaving USC would be pretty huge. Not that I expect SC to get worse any time soon, they have a full cup board and it would take somebdy quite a while to "burn it to the ground", if I might borrow a phrase.

Riley may be their first choice, but he also might think twice, if the NCAA ever grew a spine.

This could be a major shake up of the Pac 10 coaching structure. Riley and Harbaugh might be candidates, or even Sarkissian...

TT still waiting. Their BBS has been a hoot to check out every now and again. Newset rumor is Jerry Gray may get the job. Briles is out, IMO, the GOB's wanted Briles, but couldn't get it done because of the buyouts (sound familiar?). Tuberville is still in play, as is Ruffin aka the Grimmace, now Jerry Gray and possibly Tommy Bowden. Tech fan is in agony though waiting.

I'm Going to the AFCA national convention this weekend and begining of next week, I'll keep my ears open for good rumors.

See what you can find out about David Beaty (former Kansas WR Coach). He's going to draw interest at the convention and CU is probably in the running.

SIAP, but while researching a recruit's options, I found this little nugget.

NM State just hired Mike Dunbar as Offensive Coordinator -- he was at the University of Minnesota as the Gophers' assistant head coach/offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2008. Prior to Minnesota, Dunbar was the offensive coordinator at Cal. Before that, he was offensive coordinator at Northwestern. (and a bunch of smaller schools prior to Northwestern.) Seems like a nice pickup for New Mexico State.

Pete Carroll is reportedly taking New Mexico State's HC DeWayne Walker to the Seahawks with him. Walker had joined NMSU only in Dec. 2008.

Walker, who was hired by Carroll at USC in 2001, will coach the defense for the Seahawks. Before talking over the Aggies, he was the defensive coordinator at UCLA and worked for the Patriots, Giants, and Redskins.
Walker coached New Mexico State for one season compiling a 3-10 record.

USF has contacted Skip Holtz and he said he is interested.

Seems like a good fit there, gets him to a BCS program in a talent-rich state. ECU needs to act quick to avoid being the last school on the carousel this year.

Mike Leach to the East Carolina Pirates is perfection!

Former Kansas OC Ed Warriner was hired as Notre Dame's OL coach.

Hot name to watch in the future: Chuck Martin, former Grand Valley State HC, also was hired by the Irish as their DB coach

His parents live in Orlando and his wife is from Port Charlotte, which is a little south of Tampa.

ive heard chatter fulmer is gonig back anyone got espn insider they said wojahowscki said it

and if that happens it will be the bestest day ever

Troy Calhoun is a name that keeps coming up. I do not think Muschamp ends up taking the job.

I think Calhoun would be a solid choice but I highly doubt Vol fans would be happy with it. More rioting?:smile2:

Sounds like Muschamp and Calhoun are at the top of the list, but now it sounds like Muschamp will be staying at Texas. Cutcliffe makes the most sense with all the time he spent at Tennessee and has been a HC in the SEC before.
