Posted in Coaching Carousel but thought this big news needed its own thread.

ESPN just reported the Seahawks fired Jim Mora and they are targeting Pete Carroll as the replacement. Kicker? Carroll is VERY interested in taking the job. Reportedly assembling a staff to include Bates as OC.

:scared2:

Holy crap! Just heard on ESPN that Jim Mora has been fired as the Seahawks coach and their #1 candidate for replacement is......drum roll....PETE CARROLL!

WOW! Will this ever kick the carousel into high speed if it happens. Mortensen reported that Carroll is VERY INTERESTED and is assembling a staff that includes Jeremy Bates as OC. WOW, just WOW!

:scared2::wow::jawdrop:

That would be a game changer. Makes you wonder if Carroll is getting some rumblings that the enforcement arm of the NCAA might finally be growing some balls when it comes to taking on U$C....

Have to wonder who they'd go after to take over for Carroll. I'd guess they'd like to have Sarkisian back, but I don't see any way UW lets that happen.

EDIT: Moved this from the other thread, so that's the post of Navy's that's quoted here....

Beat me to it. He may want to stay one step ahead of the posse.

This is what is so ****ing wrong with the NCAA. Carroll runs a dirty ass program and he'll walk away to millions while the school will take it in the ass. Tim Floyd runs a dirty ass program and he gets fired, but he'll be back coaching somewhere in the next two years, yet, the school takes it in the ass. **** you NCAA.

EDIT: oh yeah, I forgot, OJ Mayo and Joe McKnight and Cheater McCheats all go to the pros and make millions while the school takes it in the ass.

Thanks, Junc. I was just getting ready to ask the mods to do just that.
I saw Riley's name mentioned above (I assume as a possible Carroll replacement.) Seems to me that IF this happens SC would have to after some HUGE name coach (maybe bigger even than Riley) so it maintains the "status" that Carroll built. Then again, as Wispy points out above, SC may have a hard time getting someone there if there are penalties on the way.

Don't thank me yet. I only moved my post... :smile2:

I can merge the rest of the thread if you want, but I didn't move your post because that post was pretty much the same as the one you started this thread with and I didn't want it to look like you were senile and repeating yourself....

Thanks for the backup on the senility issue never know what those zoomies from the reactor do to one's brain.

Do what's best for thread administration (I won't go nuts like the entire site did when the Hawkins staying news broke over Thanksgiving.):smile2:

yesss. **** USC. **** them with Tiger woods golf clubs. I hope that program burns.

Snoop Dogg has some HC experience. He could bring his pistol offense and thrizzle fizzle defense. Dr. Dre as team doctor a possibility as well.

We need mack brown, bob stoops and bo pellini to go to the pros while we are it. If Pete does leave, you know slick will benefit.

Head coach at Oregon State (in his second stint). Former head coach for the Chargers in the NFL.

The other guy that makes sense here is Harbaugh, but I think Riley would be a really good pick.

...which was completely justified, btw

Riley is a BA coach. Wonder how the recruiting would be under him at USC. Even if its a step down from Carrol, I thinkthe gameday coaching would more then make up for it.

Thanks all! I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to college coaching

Agree. The recruiting might not be as great (hard to match what Carroll has done), but Oregon State recruits plenty along the west coast and in Hawaii. There is more than enough talent in those areas alone for USC to remain a powerhouse. The biggest difference in recruiting I imagine would be a much smaller national recruiting focus than under Carroll.

More coming from ESPN on NFL Live. Schlereth talked about how Carroll has said in the past that if he returned to the NFL, it would only be in situation where he has total control of football operations and building the team - i.e. same control he has at USC.

Seahawks fired their GM last week and now they have both GM and HC spots to fill - perfect for Carroll to come in a Shanahan-type control situation. Also more word that Minnesota Vikes DC Leslie Frazier will be interviewing for the job, presumably to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
