"When the news broke Friday that Carroll could be headed to Seattle, USC's incoming freshman class at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio began franctically calling USC's assistant coaches.For the rest of the day, not a single USC assistant returned a single phone call, according to sources at the game."

Hmm. Im sure most of them will not have to go far to find another offer. Me thinks USC moves very quickly to name someone on staff HC. I wonder if Norm Chow will not get his shot at HC.
Do you think Pete will lobby for the team to trade for Matt Leinhart? Hasselbeck's been injury-prone and he's going to be 35 this year.

I didn't know that either, but should have guessed. His dad would have been playing TE for CU 35 years ago... :thumbsup:
Here's the recruiting calendar through NSD:
January 4-9: Quiet Period
January 10: Quiet Period
January 11-14: Dead Period, though staff are allowed to have contact with recruits who have been admitted for mid-year enrollment.
January 15-16: Quiet Period
January 31: Quiet Period
February 1-4: Dead Period. [Note: Feb. 3 is "national signing day," the first day that recruits can sign a National Letter of Intent for their school of choice.]
Dates not specified: Contact Periods
Quiet Period = Recruits can visit with coaches but only on those coaches' campuses
Dead Period = No in-person contact is allowed
Contact Period = Coaches are allowed to visit recruits off campus. Coaches can make only one visit per week to individual recruits.
Also, just read an internet rumor that the only thing that's holding up an announcement is the Rooney rule. Seattle is scrambling to find a minority coach willing to do a token interview in full knowledge that Carroll's already been promised the job with full control.
I thought they already covered that with the interview with the Viking assistant? (Can't recall his name....)

Not surprised Carroll is back in the NFL but I think his true goal was to be the 49ers head coach (he's from the Bay Area and he was an assistant for SF under Seifert's super bowl team) With singletary probably going to be there for awhile, Carroll had to settle for another West Coast NFL city..
Interesting because word is Bates may go to Chicago to be the OC there.
That wouldn't anyone too much though he may want to go a different direction. I can see teams possibly trading for Michael Vick.
Wouldn't both be candidates for the HC position at USC? SC has to act fast to shore up this recruiting class.

I wouldn't call it an implosion, and I wouldn't call it imminent. But there's no doubt that this is going to hurt them. And for that I'm grateful. They've been too good for too long. Time for CU to put them on the schedule in another 4-6 years. By then, they'll have come back to the realm of the mere mortals.
Was just listening to SportsCenter and that's a name that came up along with Harbaugh, Gary Patterson, and Jeff Fisher. I find Petersen and Patterson interesting as they both just recently signed extensions, but of course, U$C probably has the coin to buy those contracts out.

If he takes all of his top assistants, it looks like USC will have to start from scratch. A couple of names not mentioned about moving with Carroll are DC Rocky Seto and OC John Morton, but either of their coaching resumes are way too thin to be considered for the head-man job, and of course Carroll was the "real" DC there.
OL coach Pat Ruel could be a candidate.
I would doubt, but not be surprised, if they bring back former DC Ed Orgeron, despite his vaunted recruiting abilities, as trouble seems to follow and USC already is facing penalties in that arena.

That seems like a mistake if he brought them all with him. He's been out of the NFL for over a decade. I'd think he'd want some assistants from within the league to give him some guidance...
