Re: '10 LA WR James Butler

There is very little information out there on Butler, but Scout says we have offered. His other BCS offer is from Mississippi State. Same high school as RB Alfred Blue, so that's probably how we discovered him.

Maxpreps 2009 Stats

12 games
59 receptions
990 yards
16.78 avg
63 yard long
9 tds

Most likely an Ambrose recruit since he has responsibility for the area.

How many WRs are we going to take? I view WRs as a bit of a luxury in this class.

I agree it's a lot of WRs. Makes me think our offense is moving toward a 3 WR base set and a lot of 4- and 5-wide formations. That's the only way it really makes sense to want so many WRs in the program.

It may also make some sense if one or two are good enough athletes to move to DB if we have a surplus at WR.

New Scout update this week:

James Butler garnered strong attention from Mississippi State, Colorado, Tulsa and Louisiana Tech in November. But the “6-2”, 190-pound athlete is still not close on his ACT score and many of those programs have not contacted Butler for official visits in January. Butler finished the 2009 season with 47 receptions, for 850 yards and 8 TD’s on his way to being named First-Team 6-5A All-District wide receiver.

***************

He's going to visit the University of Louisiana (Lafayette) on 1/22. Hopefully he doesn't commit. If he could finish his senior year strong academically and then get a qualifying ACT score, he'd be a great late pickup for CU if we had a scholarship available.

We have what, 1 wr in this class 2?

Butler committed to Louisiana-Lafayette while on a visit this weekend. He was a bit of an academic risk. This should be a good fit for him (assuming he gets through the NCAA Clearinghouse).
