tubberville to TT

I am dumbfounded that he could get fired - what was that about again?

"Tuberville averaged 8.5 wins in his 10 seasons, taking Auburn to eight consecutive bowls."

Booster influence is why he got canned.

I respect Tommy Tuberville, but this isn't a hire that worries me all that much. I'm really glad it wasn't Tommy Bowden because he would have recruited the hell out of Texas while bringing in a lot of talent from the southeast.

Don't know if stylistically it's going to be a good fit or get them to the next level, but the winningest free agent coach was available and they had to take a look at him. His initials make this good from a marketing standpoint.

the crossover in player personnel and "style of play" will be interesting....either some really good teams (score some points and play some much improved D) or bad ones (be undersized and do neither very well trying to play "conventional" offense/defense and get stuffed in the South vs. having the gimmick before).

i could see TTech and TT taking a big, permanent step back here. but, it might work. do you like winning/losing games 44-35 or 24-17? what will the fan base think?

Tuberville ain't winning any personality contests. the smug, retread thing might come his way.

At Auburn it is not about wins and bowl games, it is about winning more than Bama, getting better bowls than Bama, and most importantly beating Bama.

TT did very well by all measures except these three and thus was fired.

I don't expect him to have great success at TT. Leach came in and put in a system that didn't require him to outrecruit UT and OU to have success. TT isn't going to outrecruit those school or many others in the south for that matter so unless he can do the same they will drop as a result of this change.

Until Brown and Stoops are gone, the Big 12 South is going to consist of OU, UT, and four other teams that might have a decent season every once in a while. Regardless of who is coaching at the other schools.

Uh... what? He was 7-3 against Alabama during his career at Auburn, including a 6-game winning streak at one point. Auburn also consistently made better bowl games and finished higher than Bama in the SEC West during his time there.

Tuberville was fired at Auburn because he never got along with the very top boosters. Simple as that.

You are correct, but he tailed off near the end and to hear it from the Auburn boosters at the time his success was ancient history. They wanted to beat Bama every year. The fact that he pissed off some VIP boosters didn't help

He pissed off the powerful boosters well before 2008. Recall the Petrino incident. They had been gunning for him for years. The 2008 season gave those boosters the ammo they needed to get him fired.

Tuberville was never comfortable with glad-handing the boosters. He is just not that type of guy.

TTs problem with Leach is that he did not suck up to Admin. How is their new hire that different???

I see Tommy Tubbervile as an upgrade for Tech. The team already has a lot of talent. He'll probably strengthen the running game and defense. Given TTs success at Auburn I think Tech will be moving up...

Have you ever been to Lubbock?

Hmmm. Not sure that is going to work out there.
TT will have a much harder time recruiting, Lubbock is a dusty, desolate, barren, hell hole.
Miles and miles from any major metro areas. He's a good coach, but this is a very strange
area. A jack rabbit needs to carry a canteen to survive in that country.

And Oklahoma is a fools paradise. But if you win you'll get whomever you want to show up. CU, might actually have to beg kids to come here....

Some fans on this board overrate campus environment as a recruiting factor. For a lot of these kids, it is about football and football only.

Anyway, TT on ESPN First Take this morning says he is going to continue running the offense they already have. How are they going to do that with Leach gone?

I don't agree with that, kids like a nice environment. CU's problem is Dan Hawkins - not what it is has to offer recruits.
Recruits, their parents, and their coaches aren't stupid, they know Hawkins is a loser.

it makes some sense since that's the personnel they've got; but, Tuberville's last experiment with the spread failed miserably.

ummm. hes already talking about "tweaking" the offense and adding more running. That offense requires complete commitment. Once he starts mixing in other concepts it will soon fall apart. Plus, I highly doubt he and his OC will turn below average QBs into record breakers.

I heard he kicked Jimmy Rane [YellaWood] off the sideline. Lowder has been trying to get rid of him for years.

Tubby will be foolish to tamper with the O. EVERYTHING about that offense is geared to the Air Raid, the size of the fatso OL, their lack of mobility, smallish quick WR, lack of FB or TE, strong armed immobile QB's, scatback RB's...You can't shake that easily.

Tubby, although a great coach IMO, will post some pretty mediocre years at first if he tampers with the O. Since TT plays CU the next two years, I hope he does just that. (not that he couldn't outcoach juicebox any day of the week though).
