Apathy and Hawkins

I'm done with bashing Hawkins. I don't care what he does or has to say. When I see him on the screen - I change the channels or website. I will always support the team, but for me Hawkins does not exist anymore.

I said it a while back, and I've heard others ay it too...apathy is the worst enemy of the Buffs right now. Many people who are fans just don't seem to care any more. Perhaps they just follow the lead of the admin. I fear CU may lose a large percentage of it's following simply because they just are tired of the same ol' same ol'. A lot of CU's support comes from the casual fan who isn't going to follow a team that looks firmly entrenched in the sub-mediocre category.

I had FOUR different people who aren't CU fans practically chuckling when the topic of CU football came up this weekend...

That's a novel way to avoid bashing the guy!

i am totally apathetic. i have seen what hawk has to offer. its not good. i dont read anything about him where he is quoted as he just talks out of his ass. i dont care about great practices on tuesday. the admin is not willing to work for a winning program. i dont see anything changing until at least the end of next season. if they do pull the plug on hawk, i have no faith that they will put forth the effort and kind of money that will be required to bring in a credible new coach.

i will always watch the games and plan on coming out for the UGA game. however, i have zero expectations and the passion pool is just about empty. the only real entertainment value there is anymore is wondering what stupid thing will hawk do next? and that sucks. he has taken a lot of the fun out of this for me since i expect nothing from him and the product he puts on the gridiron.

just root for the kids to do well. that is about all there is left.

Its gotten to a point now that its just comical what Talkins does or says now..

The recruiting is what pisses me off the most. His bad or lack of coaching doesn't surprise/anger me anymore. Its obvious to everyone that our staff is clearly overmatched on gameday so there's really no point in getting mad over it anymore. But recruiting is the lifeblood of the program. It would be nice to see us have some good talent in here if and when a new coaching staff comes in.

The coaching and poor play are a given and a reason to be pissed. But to have higher expectations for recruiting given the results we've witnessed on the field seems a bit illogical to me. The reality is that if there's a miraculous turn-around on the field next year, all momentum will turn for recruiting just as it did for Stoops in year 5 at UofA last year. Last year's unrated players and lowest rated players have already shown they were gems (West, Jefferson, Olatoye...). This year's class will likely be better than advertised as well, but even if it's not, 1 year doesn't hurt that much. We'll either turn the corner or be hiring a new coach next year imo. This year's recruiting class won't mean much in the long run. We've been getting plenty of good players the last few years and contrary to hysterical reports, there's no mass transferring.

It's hard to be patient

You are nuts if you think this year's recruiting class won't mean anything.. Every recruiting class means something.. And I'm sorry I am not ready to call those 3 players "gems" already.. A few flashes here and there doesn't mean Big 12 caliber player. I never even heard of one of the guys you listed as a gem so Im assuming he redshirted this year. I will wait until I see it on the field before I'm ready to call anyone gems.

And honesty I don't know how you come up with the conclusion that this year's recruiting class will be better than advertised. Hawk has been here for four years and he has yet to give us a recruiting class that has exceeded expectations on the field.

You are a very patient person JimmyBuff.....right.

If you are not ready to give Mr. West some praise for being unrated, without a D1 offer, and played a lot at DE as a true freshmen, then I vote you "most even-keeled" on these boards.

West played because Hawkins failed to bring in any other decent DL during his first 3 years with the exception of Herrod. I will give you that West has potential, but I need to see a lot more before I label him a gem.

Getting playing time on the DL as a freshman is not necessarily a good thing.

To be fair, West earned the playing time he got. The DL showed improvement throughout the season. Bandison and West responded by turning what was supposed to be the weakest link into a position grouping that was better than the special teams, QB and WR positions. In my opinion, the DL performed on par with the LB's, OL, or TEs. The only position grouping that clearly outshined the DL were the corners. I enjoyed watching how disruptive West was during conference play.

My support for West isn't intended to debunk your point about the CU's inability emphasize the DL in previous classes. But West looks to be a four year starter to me who can compete at the D1 level. It also doesn't excuse the DL from their fare share of the 3-9 record. But with as many statistical categories where CU trails the rest of the conference, I think it's unfair to call out the DL or West.

Pericek really developed also. Throw in Cunningham, Bonsu and Kasa and the Old Man in that group was a Sophomore.

Pericek was the most improved player and by the end of the year was flat out a force. We need some more depth but we have 4 very young guys there who will only get better.
