Two things of note:

The Buffs produced another banner semester in the classroom last fall, setting a new record for team GPA during a fall semester with a 2.585 and a new record for cumulative GPA with a 2.652. It is the third consecutive semester under Dan Hawkins the program has set some kind of record for team GPA.

Boom!

A decision regarding whether spring practices will be open to the public hasn`t been made. CU has opened spring sessions in the recent past, but Hawkins closed them after the first week last spring because he said too much information was making its way from the practice fields to the internet and didn`t feel it was fair that his opponents could scout his team in the spring by reading reports from practices.

What's the record low team GPA? Are there really that many guys on the team that hover around the 2.0 and below mark?

I hate to think how bad the team would have been had our practices been open to the public. Keep up the good work coach.

talkins is such a tool.. I guess the reason why we were 3-9 is because everyone in the Big 12 scouted us by reading fan websites during the spring..

"some kind of record for team GPA".

way to be precise in your language, Kyle. I bet Dan's record in "some kind of wins" is pretty fantastic, too.

Next time Texas kicks our ass, we can always come back and say "Oh yeah? Well our team GPA is waaaaayyyy better than yours!" That always pretty much ends any debate right there.

I'm glad the team is improving in the classroom. No need to make a negative out of a positive.

However, it does ring hollow when the team is losing. I'll be much more proud of our guys when I hear about a 9-3 team setting a semester GPA record.

I wouldn't be too sure that our team GPA is actually better than theirs. Just because it is a record for us doesn't mean it is great.

Now, I have no idea what it is for Texas, but I have seen stats that show we were pretty far behind in athlete's GPA and test scores in the past.

I think Dan is trying to get the team GPA the same as the number of wins a year. 3.0

Is the AD seriously touting a 2.6 GPA as something to be proud of?

those quotes sounded like something out of the onion. i think ringo was mocking hawkins with this article. which is awesome if he was. and is 2.5something really a record high for cumulative gpa? man, my gpa was like astronomically high then. i didn't realize it at the time

In all seriousness, that might not be true. I saw in a recruiting article CU doesn't offer some of the physical education majors that some other colleges do, which is part of what causes such a shock when these guys get into college. I don't know if UT does, but I would imagine that a football player getting a PE degree might have a pretty good GPA.

CU doesn't offer a degree in PE or General Studies. My own kid is at CSU and there are some very funny stories of the "mandatory study halls" they must attend as freshmen and thereafter until they prove they can handle college life. Can't vouche for CU really but CSU can pass anyone with a pulse. Their basketball team full of Juco's is living proof. Their football team is not much different and everyone on campus knows it.
