who do we see getting playing time next year?

i think:
eric richter
evan harrington
tony jones
kyle slavin
justin torres

everyone else redshirts.

Agreed on the two JCs. One of the TEs will see time if not two, probably Favors and Slavin. I could see 1 or 2 of the RBs getting a little time too. Other than that it'd be fail by current players if some of these new guys saw time over them. I can see someone being a PR specialist as a true freshman though, probably Canty.

Technically they are not buffs until they are on campus, and with this class and all the qualifying concerns (Richter and Hirshman excluded) I'm not really expecting anyone but Richter to see much if any time on the field next year.

hey hey hey, enough with that crap!

Richter should challenge for a starting job. I imagine Hirschman will play some in a backup role. Beyond those two, Harrington and one TE/one RB are the best bets.

Total guesses and one prayer:

Guesses

Slavin at TE
Richter at OG
Tony Jones at RB
Evan the JUCO LB

Prayer:
Castor

i was going to put uzo-diribe because of depth issues but he needs a year to get ahold things. i expect him to be very good in a few years.

Hirschman, really? I hope not unless he sets the world on fire and is clearly ahead of Evans and Cody. If Hirschman plays as a frosh is basically means 4 years of headset duty for Evans (barring injury). I'd rather he RSand compete with Evans for the top job in 2012.

Can't see Hirschman playing over Cody, but I'd like it. Would bet that Hansen is #1 and Cody finishes up his career as the backup. Hirschman then moves into the backup behind Hansen in 2011, maybe competes for the job. QB takes 2 years to learn the college game. Hansen is almost there!

I will bet that we will see 1-2 RB's and TE's from this class in 2010.
Both JC guys, although I believe Richter is insurance for MTM (unless they move one of them to Center).
Clark in an all-purpose role, RB/FB/H-back
someone returning punts
Henley needs some weight and he's only 17.

Ideally, Hirschman redshirts, with Evans moving to #2 behind Hansen this year. Then for 2011 we'd theoretically have three guys who can get the job done and in 2012 there would be a battle royal hell in the cell match between Evans and Hirschman for the #1 job.

I still have this sinking feeling there will be a QB "competition"....if you know what I mean....

Id say reshirt most of them. Richter, Harrington, any of the backs, and a te playing wouldnt hurt. I really like Bell but I hope he will redshirt so we'll have him down the road. We are paper thin at corner though so who knows if we can afford to shirt him.

The only hope Hawkins has of keeping his job beyond 2010 is to name Hansen the opening day starter at the beginning of Spring ball. The offense has to get all of the reps it possibly can with the starter in place. This garbage about competition being a good thing is all well and good when it's two safeties competing for playing time. When it's the quarterback, you need to get him comfortable with running the offense. The only way to do that is by giving him as many reps as is humanly possible. I'm firmly convinced that much of the problem we've had since Hawkins got here is tied to the fact that we have not had an opening day quarterback settled when we go into Spring ball.

a battle at QB? We've never had 2 competent guys there since I've been watching the buffs starting around '98. None of Neuheisel's guys made it. Barnett went with Klatt (a walk-on) after a string of JC guys who came in to band-aid Skippy's epic failures at QB recruiting. Cox and B-Jax..... then Cody. It really has been a bad run at QB here at CU for the last 10 years imo.

Anyone plays on the PR team that can catch the ball and fall forward for more than Espy's 3.3 yards/return. I look for Canty to get a shot at it.
Super thin at RB so look for one of the new guys to get a chance.
The JC guys will see decent PT.

Everyone else is probably a RS.

If any of them are good enough to get into the two deep roster, then I want them on the field. We have got to get the best players on the field. Period. What is the point of redshirting a guy that is better than either the starter or his backup. We have to get the shipped pointed in the right direction. This going in circles is driving me nuts.

Personally - I say redshirt every single player.

In fact, if there is ANY player on this year's CU team who is not going to be a full time starter, who is eligible for a redshirt - I say they should redshirt.

I agree with redshirting as many as possible, but I think they need a true freshman RB and probably a tight end to take some reps. Especially RB. Also don't mind seeing a kicker thrown into action as long as he gets the job done.

In this day and age of football, other than the o-line and qb, who is a FULL time starter. Wideouts rotated, d-line rotated, linebackers rotated, secondary rotated. It's about creating depth and having a guy sit when he could be contributing is not helping matters. Sure some positions can use the redshirt year to their advantage but I want players.
