Wow. Just wow.

The middle part of this story will make your eyes bleed.

Seriously, how can this be explained away???
It can't...we've been sold a bill of goods and are paying Danny to continue to fail miserably. How can you not even talk to a guy 45 minutes away who is good enough for Stanford? Oh yeah, I forgot, CU is going to do things the right way, and we all know how low Stanford is athletically and academically....

do you think Hawk did this on purpose. It is easier to say that a kid is not the right type of player for CU, then say he chose another school because we suck (Mister Jones, Spond)

Pretty sad and it goes back to something this coaching staff lacks on the recruiting trail: focus. Even if you have no real interest in a kid, at least go see him. Get to know the local coaches. The surest way to piss off local coaches is to show utter disregard for their players. It just further illustrates how out of touch CU's football program really is these days.

Still F'N LIVID we didn't even give Onyeali the light of day.....that pisses me off...didn't even try for some of the kids...what a friggin joke

yikes. and it wasn't even like they evaluated them and thought they sucked... they just didn't do the work. :bang:

Not like we want any players from that school anyway. I am sure no other schools dropped by throughout this season to interact with the coaches to get a jumpstart on next year's class either.

I'm honestly shocked. I didn't think the recruitment of Kenny Bell was anything like the recruitment of Bonnell or Hinder. From that article it sounds like we had a decent shot at Hinder if the coaches got off their lazy ***. I really have to wonder what Hawk was doing in Hawaii on the last weekend. How about making a few phone calls Dan?

It appears pretty obvious that Hawkins is just collecting a paycheck at this point. There must be a lot more to what is going on behind the scenes as Pissbomber alluded to, because it certainly looks like Hawkins and all of his coaches are just going through the motions at this point, waiting for the string to play out. To not even go visit the top ten kids in the state of Colorado is absolutely in-excusable. Everybody knows CU is going to suck balls next year as long as Hawkins is the coach. I would rather suck balls with a bunch of Colorado kids on the team.

I am glad that these articles came out today. It will give the sad few who attend the recruiting luncheon some good ammunition to hammer Hawkins with.

Lol, thats about all I can do is laugh about it. He is either just working for a check or he is arrogant enough to think he doesnt have to work on the instate kids to get them here. I dont know how many recruits I heard yesterday say, I picked this school because they were in on me from the beginning and the whole process. Not rocket science to see they built comfort levels with where they wanted to go. No big surprise we didnt get any dline recruits hardly.

I admit that I don't follow the details of recruiting, but come on, do you really believe this? I know you guys all hate Hawk, but unless you are on staff and know this for a fact, I suggest that you are guessing (and probably incorrectly). Just cuz a kid said he didn't see Hawk doesn't mean he wasn't evaluated. There are plenty of reasons that kids choose schools and plenty of reasons that schools choose kids. All you are getting is one side of the story because the school chooses (rightly, in my opinion) not to bash the kids that don't choose CU.

I now return you to your previously scheduled program, "50 things I hate about Hawk..."

uhhh. Dillon Bonnels story about how we didn't even get on him until after Nebraska offered him is what I based that comment off of. How pathetic is it that Nebraska is getting in on Colorado guys first? Either they knew about him earlier or the staff mis evaluated him and only realzied it when the offers started rolling in. Either way, they blew it.

I hesitate to use words directly from Hawk's mouth, because I'm sure you think he's lying anyway, but in yesterday's presser, he specifically said that he doesn't track who is offering who (using Clady as an example), and that he specifically doesn't ask the kids who else is recruiting them. The kid said that CU offered only after hearing on talk radio that he was offered by NU. Really? If CU coaches are recruiting based on what is said on talk radio, we are in worse shape than I thought. My point is, that is the kid's opinion. Maybe the timing of the offer was due to something else. I have no idea.

You don't find it disturbing that Hawk seems very care free about recruiting good in state players? From what it sounds like, they offered Hinder, Bonnell, Bell, and Onyeali, but apparently didn't really follow up much on them. Why bother offering at all? If anything why not go the Moudy route and not even offer if they aren't interested.

My one thing about a CU coach and recruiting is not unreasonable imo. I think there are probably roughly 10-15 prospects in state each year that are BCS level players. CU should be getting a lot of those guys. Even before when he was getting 3-5, that wasn't enough imo. Now he feels like he can just skip the entire thing? Grab a TE and Kicker and it's all done? Head to random east coast states to get players that probably couldn't find the state of Colorado on a map? (not a jab at the players intelligence, just saying they aren't familiar with the state of Colorado at all)

Now you could say that Colorado is filled with "transplants" that want nothing more than to go out of state. Maybe it's just me, but those quotes in that article sure sounded like kids that wanted to stay close to home, they just weren't given the time of day.

My point is that we don't really know if they were given the time of day or not. And we're just assuming the worst case. I don't really think he's care free about recruiting in state players. I think he wants the best players, in state or not. Maybe they offered Hinder and he said, "you can save your breath because my mind's made up and I'm going to Cal." And Hawk did exactly that. Maybe Hawk thought Hirschman was a better prospect and went that way. Again, I have no idea. I agree that I want CU to be a viable location for every good player in Colorado. All you can do is make your school as attractive as possible (by winning!) and then you'll have more options on the good players.

Hard to tell which is more damaging to CU football: Denver Post (Kensler/Meyer/Henderson/Page) for the relentless shots they publish or

or Hawkins/DiStephano/Benson for neglect.

Ugly.

My point is that we don't really know if they were given the time of day or not. And we're just assuming the worst case. .

The kids said they weren't. The kids said they had discussed how little attention they were given by CU. One kid said he has never seen Dan Hawkins' face. For a kid 40 miles from Boulder that is a national level recruit, that is inexcusable. But, to borrow your phrase, I hesitate to use the kids own words, because you apparently think they're lying anyway...

He said he and other highly rated in-state prospects — including Mullen defensive end Nduka Onyeali (No. 3) and Steamboat Springs' quarterback Austin Hinder (No. 6) — discussed CU's lack of interest. Onyeali chose Arizona State, and Hinder is off to the University of California, Berkeley.
"They seemed to blow past us," Bonnell said. "I've never seen coach Hawkins' face. We saw CU focused more out of state. . . . CU offered after they heard on a morning talk show I was considering Nebraska."

You're right about assuming and speculating on things, but that's all we have. Unless pissbomber wants to come on here and confirm or deny things. From that quote right there I think it's fair to say that the four of them discussed their recruitment and all of which had a lack of interest from CU. So now we're left wondering why on earth Hawk didn't feel the need to really go after these guys. Kenny Bell had pretty much the same story, offered by CU and had some contact, but much much less than the rest of the schools after him. Hawk doesn't even know what Kyle Slavins first name is.

Take the kicking recruiting this year, I don't know what takes so long for them to figure out what they need, but it sure takes awhile. They stepped up to the plate really late in the game last year with Grossnickle and then tried it again this year with Kip Smith. Fortunately Castor was still around or we'd be going into this next season with Goodman and no real backup, unless they want Grossnickle pulling double duty.

In this case, without Hawkins' neglect and the resulting quotes from the recruits, the Post would have had nothing to publish. That tips the scales a bit for me....

Spaceman, do you think the players in question were good enough to receive early offers and heavy attention from CU?

If you don't think they were, why do you think teams like Nebraska and Stanford felt otherwise?
If you think they were, why do you think our staff didn't show them much attention?

Don't know. Like I said, CU needs to do everything it can to be a more attractive option, so that these kids are beating down Hawk's door for a chance to play in Boulder. I can't figure out why people don't think Hawk is trying to get the best kids he can? His job depends on it.

You don't know if they're good enough to get as much attention from their instate school as they're getting from Top25 teams like kNU and Stanford?

I wondered how long it would take before the issue somehow became why the kids weren't contacting Hawk rather than why Hawk wasn't contacting the kids.

It is Hawk's job to contact recruits, not to somehow get them to contact him. It is called recruiting, not telephone answering, for a reason...

I take DP articles with a grain of salt. We saw how that publication sensationalized the Colo Springs budget cuts. We are all familiar with their long and illustrious track record of mudslinging. Any crime that ever happens by a CU athlete, current or past, gets posted in a way that embarasses CU. They didn't get any quotes from Spond, Geer, Cunningham, Kasa or any current or former Colo kids who have been coached by Hawkins.

This point does not in any way defend Hawkin's performance on the recruiting trail.

Like I said, I don't trust either group.

Pissbomber is more credible at this point. Again...Ugly.
