Anyone got confirmation of this rumor? With Hirsh on campus, it makes some sense... But still, crushing to BCS.

No not at all... either way he'll dominate... hell be the first TE Heisman winner since Tim Tebow

i dont think im thrilled with all the position changes. sure would be nice to have ray polk at rb now, wouldnt it?

I see this happening but not this year. He has to be the 3rd stringer this year. I don't want Nick put in the position of losing a redshirt year if Tyler and Cody both are hurt.

Two words: Seth Lobato.

We're ****ed anyway if both Tyler and Cody get hurt, you might as well throw the freshman into the fire if he is ready.

How does Moten play into all of this, I know he probably won't end up at QB, but was promised a shot.

Kids don't like to think this way but the position change may be his best move if it means he will have a shot at playing.

Odds are that Hawk is gone after this year. He won't have the political cover of a $3+ million buyout to protect him in an election year like he did last year. I never wish the Buffs bad results and I actually like Hawk as a person but so far he has shown that he cannot successfully coach at this level. What this means is that after this season the players will be looking at a new coaching staff and potentially a new system (if anyone can actually figure out what the system is that we are supposively using now, seems to change every couple of weeks and never gets run well enough to qualify as "our" system.)

I think Hansen and Hirschmann are safe at QB but after that new coaches seem to like to get "their" guys into the mix as soon as possible. For a lot of guys this year is going to be about getting themselves on tape for the next staff to see and showing that they have skills that are of value to the new staff. I don't know if Evans has a future at QB in the Big XII, if he doesn't then this may be the time to make a move and get set up for the transition.

Didn't we just sign three tightends this cycle. With Thorton and Dehann coming back. Makes a lot of sense to move a guy that's always played qb to tightend.
So let's play this out. This year Tyler is the guy. Let's say in '11 that him and Nick battle for the starting job and Nick gets it. Tyler still has a redshirt year. He will leave, no way he is going to be a backup as a senior. Then we have Nick with Seth Labato as the backup and six guys playing tightend. Sometimes you have to look a year or two down the line.

You're assuming they don't recruit anymore QB's between now and 2012. That's a bit of a stretch. There's a kid down in Highlands Ranch who is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips and apparently has CU high on his list. It could very well be that they ARE looking a year or two down the line.

you're also assuming a) all these tight ends make it in. there is a serious chance mobley doesn't. and b) none of them will be moved to de.

Most will need to RS and we will have a break in the TE class with Evans in the mix and not a bunch of kids graduating leaving holes in the roster because we couldn't afford another roster spot

I don't think I like this. After this year Cody graduates we will have Hansen, Hirschman, 2011 recruit(Berglund?) and Lobato? I know Moten is supposed to get a shot at QB, but I doubt he stays there for long. I suppose it's alright as long as they think pretty highly of Hirschman, but that would be bordering on pretty thin depth at the most important position on the team. I'd rather they overload at QB to make sure they have someone to step in. What happened with Evans anyway, his throwing motion is really that bad?

Couldn't agree more.

After watching him in practice and scrimmages his throwing motion was terrible. He made Tebow's motion look good. Took almost 2 seconds from the wind up to the release. He threw a nice looking deep ball but everything that was an intermediate or short throw he threw low and into the ground. Could he be a productive QB? Sure, but it would take a few more years of completely reworking his throwing motion.

How do you not see that when recruiting the kid?

You'd have to ask the coaching staff about that one. I have no clue, I imagine they saw potential as a project... if it works out fantastic, if not then he is athletic enough to be moved somewhere else.

Don't we have redshirt seasons to fix stuff like this?? I expect a lot of improvement from last spring to this spring, if not what exactly did the staff do with him this past year???

This problem sounds like a big thing, which usually doesn't need to be fixed. They instead opted to work on the little things with Clark.

From Ringo's story on Tyler Hansen this morning:

Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Clark Evans and true freshman Josh Moten, both of whom were recruited to CU as quarterbacks a year ago, appear ticketed for other positions. No position changes have been announced by the coaching staff but players said Evans has been working at tight end and Moten has been playing cornerback in seven-on-seven.

I think this could be a good move. Evans was listed as 6-5 225 as a true freshman. Big dude. Geer and Devany both were QBs in HS and made a successful transition to TE (albeit, Geer slightly faster than Devany).

I like the move too. I think the coaches were banking on Evans' athleticism all along if QB did not work out, which is why they had Wynn in the fold for a while too.

It does leave some questions at QB though. We now a pretty big gap between Hansen and the underclassmen. Would not surprise me if the coaches look at the JUCO ranks this year and try to sign two QBs.

Not going to argue over who is seeing playing time at QB as we know some will be at other spots, but here are potential QBs and class.

C Hawkins - SR
T Hansen - JR
S Lobato - RS FR
Evans -RS FR
Stanley - RS FR
Moten - FR
Hirschman - FR

I think -- assuming they are moving Evans as signs indicate - this means Lobato will back-up Hansen if needed. Moten gets his tryout, Hirschman redshirts. Who knows about Blake Stanley, but he is still listed at QB on the roster I believe. I think Ballenger left for reasons that were right for him, but not having him is one of the reasons there is a gap in the classes. If he had stayed, presumably Hansen would have had his redshirt year and would be a RS soph this year, instead of true junior. But that scenario (Ballenger staying and backing up Cody) is in a parallel universe for a lot of reasons -- Ballenger must look back at the team now and know he made a good decision for him after seeing how strange the QB situation played out.
