Would you be in favor of CU joining the Pac 10?

Do you want CU to join the Pac 10?

Yes, with a caveat (even though since I live in Portland, a relocation to the Pac 10 would be HUGE for me in terms of seeing the Buffs more often).

I know the money won't be the same in the Pac 10 in terms of revenue sharing, etc. but for CU to consider moving it shouldn't be a huge step down.

don't be so sure, it could actually be better.

Right now I am in favor of anything positive because it seems like such a long time ago we have had any new life and enthusiasm for the program.

dumbest thing I ever heard....running and hiding in the weak a** PAC-10 is not the answer to our current woes....

i have a buddy who is a USC grad/fan. he's treating like we might if Regis was asked to join the Big XII. he's pompous prick who went to USC when it was rich kid, mediocre school.....but, there's not a lot of love for CU coming from the Pac member schools near as i can tell.

like i say: maybe we should separate wishful thinking and desired "identification" and what's objectively good for an AD that's clearly on the edge of being in the dumper.

so what else do we give the Pac? other than football? last place basketball, no baseball?

TV market #18. A prestigious academic/research school.

And if the TV contract is good enough and the AD gets back on its feet, more sports programs.

Not to mention one HELL of a vaca destination for away games.

the pac people i know they don't seem to buy it. not really so prestigious compared to Stanford, Cal etc.

I'm for it only if the money is significantly better than what we're getting now. You don't make the move for any other reason, IMO. I'm running under the assumption that the money would be a lot better than our current deal with the Big 12.

We'd be smack in the middle of the pack in terms of academic prestige. Below Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC and UW and above UA, ASU, OSU, WSU and Oregon.

Hasn't there already been several poll's on this subject? If so, what were the results of those poll's then, compared to this one?

I know if you polled most Husky fans, they would absolutely be in favor of Colorado joining the Pac. I know I'm in favor of it.

Quite frankly... CU, more than any other potential invitee, has a strong academic reputation which is important to the Pac.

And despite falling on recent hard times on the gridiron (Huskies have too), CU has still won a national championship within the past 20 years. Within the Pac, only USC and UW can claim that right now.

Not to mention opening up the Denver and (potentially) Salt Lake City TV markets, or virtually the entire Western U.S. television markets.

The Pac could not have a better school joining than CU. Who else? Utah.... at least they have the SLC market and a medical school.

BYU? Nope, they don't participate in Sunday sports.
Fresno State or Nevada or San Diego State? All woefully short on Academics.
Boise St? Good football, woefully short on academics and elsewhere.

Quite frankly CU is the most prestigious institution the Pac could hope for. If CU and Utah joined, I believe we'll have a dedicated Pac-12 network TV channel as well.

Definitely a win for the Pac:nod:

I don't think a Pac-12 would be a "weak ass" league. At all. In fact, of the BCS conferences, aside from the Big East I would probably be less bullish on the future of the Big XII than any of the others. It's a league with one real recruiting hotbed , which is totally dominated by schools from one division. Outside of Texass, there's a serious shortage of major population centers that are dedicated to the league. Denver, Kansas City and St. Louis (which probably leans just as heavily to the Big XI). Outside of Kansas, not much real passion for any sport but football. All of which is seriously limiting to the size of future TV contracts. There are no markets in there that naturally attract a media spotlight.

It's also not an ideal league for CU to compete in. Not only are the several programs with deeper pockets than CU, but at least an equal number with major advantages in getting marginal kids admitted. With the Pac-12 the deep pockets issue wouldn't be much, if any, better. But at least there wouldn't be quite as many schools competing on the academic level of a KjSU....

Damn. I'd hate to hear how you'd talk about people who aren't your buddies... :wow:

Is there a chance that the move will facilitate some changes? It may be something the AD and regents try to push, and there may be some "influence" from the "new" conference as well. Not sure, just speculating on posibilities.

Will CU have a TV contract that allows for all of its games to be televised in the Denver area? When CU plays a game that isn't televised while at the same time Texas/Oklahoma is on the tube in the Denver area, that is unacceptable.

I'm all for Pac10. Road trips to places like Tempe and LA or road trips to Manhattan or Ames. Easy decision on my part.

:yeahthat:

Funny thread though..

You guys miss the point completely. This isn't about running and hiding. In fact you could easily make the argument that the Pac 10 was better than the Big 12 top to bottom this year.

Would you prefer we stay in the Big12 with its outdated tv deal while it gets picked apart by other conferences? Think about the revenue dropoff if UT leaves for the Big 10.

Would love the move. I went to high school in a Portland OR suburb and enjoy getting back to the pac nw as well as CA. Throw in AZ and this conf has some really nice campus locations.
