Worst possible scenario: Texas/A&M go to Pac10 and CU is left in rump Big12

Given our luck over the last decade, this is probably going to happen (hopefully kidding).

Still, if you were the Pac10, all that TV audience and money in Texas must look very appealing. Certainly more appealing than the Denver and Salt Lake City markets.

I'm still laughing at the thought of aggy in the Pac 10.

:rofl2:

hahaha

I heard Colorado and Utah are their number one choices from several reliable sources.

If that's true, then we need to do this deal, like, yesterday.

I'm also concerned about the Rados scenario. Texas isn't going ANYWHERE without Aggie, and Texas is a big enough draw that just about any conference wouldn't think twice about taking their little brother if it meant landing the Longhorns.

I would work with another team (or another 3 teams), to jump to the pac-10.

I don't think the Pac-10 would miss out on the Denver market.

Cal and Stanford anti-military snobbery is our friend here, can you REALLY see aTm's band playing the Aggie War Hymn at Cal or Stanford? Granted the smoking ruins would be compelling, but if aTm gets in the Pac10, get ready for some serious hippie led fireworks...

The hilarity won't come when the Aggy band goes to Palo Alto or Berkely. The aggie band is very impressive. There's no denying it. No, the true hilarity will come if and when the Stanford band goes to collieville. I foresee numerous impalings with those ghey swords the aggies love to carry around.

 Excellent point.

Yeah I think the Aggie band would do okay anywhere... the performance they put on when Aggie brought their band to Boulder when we were both in the top 10 my freshman year was frigging awesome and had the whole CU student section applauding. What I'm actually concerned about is if the whole PAC-10 super conference thing happens since we still wouldn't be getting many games in Cali, not sure AZ would be much more of a draw for our alumni base. Though keeping Nebraska and Kansas would pretty much cover the only teams from the old Big 8 that I'd like to keep ties with. Not sure if a super-conference model that is even more competitive, and keeping 3/4 of the uber-funded ADs from the Big 12 is going to really do us any favors.

OK, several questions here. Not that any may actually be relavent to the topic.

1. How many UT & aTM alum and fans are dispersed throughout the Pac10 states? TV sets?
2. How many of those who live in the P10 region who are not contributing $$$ now would open their checkbooks to those two schools if they became P10 members?
3. Which one of 3 schools CU, UT, & aTM is most likely to have a larger financial impact for the P10 based on questions 1 & 2?

I may be wrong here, but I can't say that I have ever heard that a large amount of alumni & fan support comes from all the P10 states to attend school at UT & aTM. So my guess here is CU would be a far better fit for a multitude of reasons. Seems like most of the people I've met that attended UT, TT, or aTM were either from Texas, New Mexico, Louisana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or some other southern state.

1. Texas and Texas A&M would bring more TV sets to any Television contract than CU would. Do you think the 50,000 CU alum on the west coast are going to make a dent in television ratings....no it is going to be the 2 million TV sets in the Front Range that any conference wants.

2. Individual donations to a university have little direct impact on the conference revenues. UT and A&M alums already donate big money to their schools.

3. Nothing like trying to make a leading question...your questions 1 and 2 have little bearing on conference revenue, But the Texas schools will be more attractive financially than CU will be to thePAC 10. The whole thing is based upon getting an attractive TV contract...Texas makes a bigger impact on that front. Don't kid yourself.

My fear is that it is always 'all about the money'. I doubt culture will mean much if the powers that be in the Pac10 start looking at TV revenue from Houston/Dallas/San Antonio etc.

And if Texas and A&M smell an implosion of the B12 on the wind, things could get very interesting.

I think CU needs to move quickly. Tectonic shifts are underway in College football. We don't want to be caught without a good chair, or we'll end up in the WAC.

One thing that I'm not sure I've seen anyone mention is this question..."How much of the growth in Colorado has been fueled by California transplants, and are they more interested in watching PAC-10 sports than Midwest/Great Plains?"

You guys are ignoring the money aspect of this.

Also ignoring the fact that Colorado is nothing but a joke right now in terms of athletics and wouldn't add anything to the Pac 10 other than a TV market which doesn't get a huge amount of TV viewers for college sports let alone for Pac 10 football..

But carry on with kool-aid that we are going to Pac 10.. I must admit the threads about us joining the pac 10, super conferences, screw Texas are quite amusing.

BTW, Texas isn't going anywhere without A$M.. If you don't believe that, than you don't know Texas politics.

I don't know if UT goes to the Pac-10... but I have serious doubts about the Buffs joining the Pac-10

jimbo may or may not be an idiot, but he's one of us.

don't be butt-hurt that your fuskers may end up without a chair when the music stops. i am sure that the new "amber waves of grain" conference, consisting of the fuskers, isu, kjuco state, baylor, tech, and some other also-rans from flyover states will be very profitable and rewarding for you. the fuskers are already fond of kicking around weak teams in the ooc, so now you'll be able to thump your chests when you "own" the newly formed conference of the left-behind former bcs teams. maybe you'll be able to get an at-large bid to a major bowl every few years, just like boise and utah do now after they've thumped their weak conference sisters.

Cal/Stanford might have to live with it if it meant we got Texas.

Harsh but true......CU's athletic department has, count them, eleven NCAA varsity sports. They are the dropping of one sport away from being a division 2 athletic department. The pac ten prides itself in non revenue sports like baseball and softball, sports which CU is far removed from. Talk all day about the denver market, but this market is a pro sports (namely the broncos) market that pays little attention to college sports even when they are winning (see the attendance and donations during Mac's years). The Pac Ten would be doing back flips if they could inherit ut and atm's followings and NATIONAL market share. Those two athletic departments would have no issue footing the bill for extra travel.

CU fans talk about better geographicall, cultural, academic (a bit over inflated, in my opinion) fit, they should look no further than the MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE....Geographically you are playing schools in your own time zone. You have 4 schools (AFA, CSU, WYO, NMU) that fit culturally with denver, mainly because they are full of former denver residents...if the mwc adds Boise, CU and an SMU, to get an automatic bid, I would be all for a move there....i know Im in the minority

Might as well turn out the lights if that happens.

Here is an interesting article. Maybe A&M isn't as tied to UT as we think considering they had to be bribed to go to the Big 12.

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/MYSA081405_3N_SWCbaylor_tech_1ca3e1c_html8528.html

According to witnesses — and also Clayton's testimony in the 1996 misappropriation of funds trial of former A&M regents chairman Ross Margraves — Clayton balked at the idea of the Aggies joining the Big Eight.

"No, you're wrong about that" Bullock told him. "You need to come with us to the Big Eight."

It so happened that A&M needed two votes from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, which governs construction projects at state colleges, to proceed with the construction of its $33.4 million basketball and convocation facility, which became Reed Arena.

"Don't worry about it," Bullock told Clayton. "I'll get them for you tomorrow."

Why would a move to the MWC w Boise and an automatic BCS bid be a bad thing? As it stands now, the conference is no worse than the Big XII north, Pac Ten (look at the head to head MWC vs Pac 10 the last couple years), ACC and Big East....Like it or not, the MWC is legit , especially if they keep TCU.
