Congrats to Geer!

We talk about the great tradition of linebackers that CU has, but the tight ends that CU has had ain't too shabby: Jon Embree, Christian Fauria, Brody Heffner, Dan Graham, Quinn Syp, Joe Klop, Tyson Devree ... add Riar Geer to the list.

Way to keep the tradition alive Riar. Congratz

Here are Geer's stats from the NFL Combine:

Ht: 6-foot-3
Wt: 256 lbs
Arm Length: 33 inches
Hand Size: 10 1/8 inches
Forty: 4.98 seconds
Bench: 13 reps at 225 lbs

Really, really bad numbers for a potential NFL tight end. I've never been a fan of Jeff Pittman. I have talked to several players who do not like his routines. He does not stress the bench press as a core exercise. You have a 260 pound kid doing 13 reps should tell you all you need to know about this coach. Very lame. Alot of folk argue that the bench press is not a good measure of "football" strength...I firmly disagree. The NFL would not test it for clubs who are about to investment millions of dollars in these kids if it were not.

Most scouts look for a TE to get at least 20 reps to show he has the strength to go with explosivness to hold up at the point of attack in the NFL

The top number at the combine for a TE was 30. You have a kid in the program for 4+ years who only does 13 reps. Pretty sad....I really can't believe this staff is around for another year...they are killing this program.

our S&C has always been a mystery since Doc Kries. i wasn't a huge fan of Doc, but since then it's been weird.

every year they tell us the Buffs and bigger and faster....

I wasn't very surprised about his 40 time, he never seemed very fast to me. What's bad is that bench press, that won't be impressing any scouts or coaches. Fwiw, he looked decent in the drills.

It made me think though, we really need to get some speed back on this team. Especially if we don't have much strength.

Does anyone have the screen capture from the Michigan game in 94 when it showed half the team ran a sub 4.6?

Absolutely I do.

Who do we have on offense that even runs in that range anymore? I think Speedy is a 4.4 guy, Lockridge too? Certainly nobody in the 4.29 or 4.30 range, that's for sure.

Among the RBs, Speedy and B-Lock are 4.5 guys. Simmons and Celestine run that fast at WR. Polk gives us a 4.5 guy at Safety. And Jimmy Smith may be even a bit faster than that.

We're going to have better speed this year.

Yeah we will. Just going by the WRs, we're going from Scotty and Espy to start the year, 4.7 range at best I'd think? To Scotty, Simas(..), Clemons(4.5?), Simmons(4.5), Celestine(4.5). TE we'll probably be faster with Deehan and Thornton, can't get much slower than a 4.98.

Let's have a 3-man race. I'll take Cliff Branch.

i would toss flannigan into that bunch too.

the bloom TD vs FSU im not so sure is a fair take. that play was a blown coverage. period. it was not like he beat thier DB flat out like he did vs the kjuko guy on that long play and then out ran them. he was 15 yards in the clear when he caught the ball vs FSU as best i remember. anyway, im not saying he was not the fastest to ever wear a buff uni. he may well be. i dunno.

edit: i remember reading/hearing that JJF ran a legit 4.25 at some point. i have no link. i just seem to remember that from somewhere.
