Spring Practices Reopened!

I read some speculation that they were closed last year because the coaches knew the team wasn't any good. Maybe they feel better about the product this year.

i bet about 4 or 5 practices will be open where they dont show ****, then they will promptly close the rest due to the onlooker's disregard for the rules.

I always thought closing spring practices was kind of silly. Usually there is not that much to see. I can see closing the fall practices when you start game planning for opponents.

good news for fans, i guess. doesn't exactly enhance the perception that "these guys have a formula" and stick with it....when policy and offenses change every season.

Laying down some rules.

From The Ralphie Report

All practices will be open to the public and media, and all members of the media will be required to wear their CU media credentials. Only credentialed media members will be allowed to take notes, photos and video. Cell phones, pets and video cameras (except those used by media members) will not be allowed.
CU officials also noted that other restrictions may take effect if the team is forced inside the practice bubble because of inclement weather.

Maybe Dan has learned he really doesn't have any groundbreaking ideas anyone is going to steal. I haven't heard about Alabama employing the "grouping" concept yet. Either way, I think it is a good thing. The AD has pretty much done everything possible to alienate the fan base up to this point. As others have mentioned, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see practices closed halfway through the Spring....

What does Hawk have to lose? He may as well open them up. It's not like he's got any leverage anymore. His margin for error is in negative territory right now. The last thing he needs to be doing is pissing off the fans any more than they already are.

If there are people around from outside the program, he might have to talk to them.

So you think it'd be a good idea for Hawk and crew to upset the fan base even more? After 4 years of garbage on the field product he has provided, he can at least entertain the fans during the Spring where no sane opposing team will bother 'scouting' us.

We all feel it is our right to attend practices at CU, but is this commonplace?

I saw on Rivals:

I do not really care either way. They can close them for all I care.

But last year's situation was handled hilariously by the AD. Don't steal our secrets! Plus if it was the only thing the AD did to fans that had them questioning why the AD's overall treatment of fans, the decision to open or close practices would probably mean very little.

Texas sping practices closed.....
Oklahoma spring practices closed.......
Nebraska spring practices (apparently) closed.....

Add the word Colorado to that mix and I will start singing, "One of these things is not like the other...."

Texas has won or played for the National Championship in the past couple years.
Oklahoma has played for the National Championship in the past couple years.
Nebraska won 10 games last year and almost won the Big 12 championship.

Colorado = four (4) straight losing seasons.

People need to quit comparing Colorado to Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. Colorado football is NOTHING LIKE those programs.

I think they should open part of every practice, and save any game plannig/new wrinkles for the closed part. then everyone would be covered.

I think they should start doing things at practice worthy of being hidden from opposing programs. If that was happening, I think pretty much everybody would be happy too...

As in the new and improved 4 yd curl? Those defenses expecting the 3 yd curl won't know what hit them.

I'm not trying to compare Colorado to these programs. These were the programs I could find information on the web -that's all. It appears that nearly all college football teams have closed practices. Less than a scientific study, but again, but the NORM seems to be that a few scrimmages are open at best. So quit belly aching and get your asses out there, leave the pets at home though.

Based on last years performance, maybe we never actually practiced. Instead the team was out helping people cross streets, and other things to earn merit badges.
