I wanted to test our new Big XII blogger...

My Dixie Wrecked
So I asked this question...

Tyler Hansen (Boulder)

I will be starting quarterback against CSU right?
David Ubben (1:40 PM)

I would be shocked if you weren't. Dan Hawkins said he regretted bringing Cody to Boulder, and if the Buffaloes struggle, I doubt he'll want to struggle with his kid running the show. Also, you just looked better on the field than Hawkins, so family ties aside, deserve to start based on that.

Just reading his chat seems better than the man who shall remain nameless...

At least the guy picked Ralphie as his favorite Big XII mascot. I would have instantly thought he was stupid had he not. That's a no contest.

Whether we're talking live mascot (Ralphie) or costumed mascot (Chip), the discussion should always be framed... "After the University of Colorado, who has the best mascot in <<insert: the state, the Big 12, college athletics, the nation, the world>>."

Good lord, talk about taking a sound bite and creating the totally wrong impression. You can't say "Dan Hawkins regretted bringing Cody to Boulder" with out adding that it was because of heat put on Cody, and the magnifying glass that he is under - not because Dan thinks is son is a crappy QB.

i think you are right. still think Cody needs a solid run game and tough D to be a solid QB. right now, despite the bluster, he has/had neither. CU offense last in league in total O and rushing yards despite the hotshot claims of the coaching staff about the downhill run game.

after CSU (a very bad team) out-manned us on the LOS in Boulder, we just quit trying....for that DEnver Johnson hoo ha rock and roll OL.

This guy comes from The Oklahoman, where he covered OU, so I expect he'll do good when it comes to paying attention to the Big 12 for ESPN.

I think the new guy is a total schmuck, at least CU-wise. He has been very dismissive of the Buffs overall so far.

CU has won one-fourth of its conference games the last two years and one-third of its games overall and hasn't replaced its coach after 4 consecutive bad-to-terrible seasons. What response, exactly, would be more appropriate than being dismissive?

At least he's not a "All things texas" guy like his predessesor. I'm willing to see what & how he writes throughout the 2010 season before I pass judgement on him

He has shown that he's capable of putting positive spins on the Iowa States and Baylors, but not CU. Somewhere in his most recent chat he said that our talent level can't compete with the upper half of the conference, which is ignorant and tells me that he doesn't know much about CU beyond our recent record.

He'll jump on the bandwagon soon enough as soon as we start winning. He's doing about what I'd expect at this point. So far it's dismissive enough to be good bulletin board material, but not negative enough to hurt recruiting. I've got no problem with him.

What talent do you see on the team that thinks we can compete with the top half of the league? We just signed the 70th ranked recruit class in the nation for 2010. The 2009 was not much better. Frcking Toledo showed that we lack any team speed, and have almost no playmakers on either side of the ball. Not to mention the worst special teams in the nation.

As thing stand now, I think his evaluation was spot on.

The problem with looking at the ranking of CU's classes under Hawkins is that nearly every single 4 or 5 star player is either gone or has significantly failed to live up to their potential.

Not true.

Not true.

Go ahead and name a 4 or 5 star player recruited under Hawkins who has contributed significantly to the program other than Ryan Miller and, who, while being good, has not fully lived up to his potential. Simas is actually the best of all the blue-chips Hawkins has brought in here, in my opinion, and his issues are pretty well-documented at this point.

I am not trying to rail on any of the guys here, but we have very few game-changers on this team. Our talent level is near the bottom of the Big12.

Simas and Miller were sophomores, man. Dumas averaged 100+ yards a game over the last third of the season. Miller was honorable mention All Big 12.

Polk started several games at safety as a rs freshman in a new position. Played well. Deehan got some starts as a true frosh and will be the full-time starter as a junior. Givens started at tackle as a rs freshman. Max started at guard as a true freshman. Major is expected to start as a sophomore. Kasa played as a true freshman and is expected to start as a soph. Harris is considered likely to start in 2011 as a soph. Clemons is expected to be our #1 WR this year (his first eligible for us). For the jucos, Mohler started as a junior but fell off as a senior. Simmons did very little as a junior and we'll see this year.

Really, except for Scott, Katoa and to some extent the jucos, I think the track record looks pretty good. They've just been young and you're not likely to see guys be all-conference as freshmen and sophomores. I would say we've been ridiculously snakebit on 4*/5* injuries, though. Just about every one of them has gone down and missed significant time.
