"teammates who showed enthusiasm were deemed weird"

:wtf:

****ing hate this coach.

Intangibles like "enthusiasm" usually fall by the priority wayside when the staff is more concerned with "first downs," "field goals" and "wins." That the team was lacking it is conveniently only brought up when searching for new excuses as to why things didn't quite work out last year but oh, it'll totally be different this year now that we've addressed it! No doubts about why the team was so listless. Have an average August and get exposed by CSU in the first game, then know you've got to go 11 more games with a depth chart decided on a roulette wheel and I'd probably lose focus and fail to get up emotionally for the big games too.

So, blabbering on and on about "staying off the peaks and out of the valleys" for the last 4 years had nothing to do with the team not showing emotion?? Isn't that exactly what he's been preaching against? Now he says it was missing, but of course it's not his fault. It's apparently some kind of peer pressure now...

And yeah, when you choose to express enthusiasm by playing leapfrog with your backup on the sideline, there probably is some chance a few of your teammates might deem it "weird"...

For me, it just gets back to an overall lack of identity for the team. Everyone from the staff to the players seems unsure of roles and how everything fits together. This type of stuff should not be coming up in year five, it should be addressed well before then. Just a very weird situation.

What can you say at this point?

At least they're addressing it, I guess.

The way I read the article, the quotes are from Kiesau, not Hawkins. It's the closeest I've seen to the Offensive coordinator calling out the head coach for his "off the peaks and out of the valleys" garbage. Tells me Kiesau maybe feeling more in charge this season than he did last.

Yeah, emotion is important. I can understand what Hawk was saying. Saw it at Arkansas with Houston Nutt, team would come out fired up and playing out of their minds, and first time something bad happened in the game it all fell apart. I think that is what he was trying to avoid. But I agree that doesn't mean there should be absolutely zero emotion whatsoever... which is what I saw for most of last season.

It will be a good thing if guys can get fired up next season. It will also be fantastic if Hansen can take over as a leader, because I really didn't see a guy on the offense who was a team "leader," hopefully Hansen can step into that role.

Didn't you know Hansen has less wins then Lil Hawk? And that they are splitting reps with the first team evenly? :bang:

Great. Now we're going to hear about how this was the most "enthusiastic" spring camp ever. I can't wait.

Repalasaurus.

Sadly yes... and if he rationalizes it by less wins, or what Cody did in a relatively unimpressive freshman year then so be it... I think if TH is given the reins to the offense this team has potential to go to a bowl. It all depends on him. CU was magically able to compete when he was the QB. But obviously Hawkins doesn't see that

I think there's two different things.

Game emotions (can't be too high or too low, we've erred on the too low side for sure). Peaks and Valleys is what all top coaches preach. Peaks cause Valleys. You want to be up, but not over-the-top.

Preparation emotions (Practice/weights, etc) - this needs to be at a fever pitch all the time. The early fall practices I went to last year seemed pretty spirited (until Hawk shut us down that is).

I can definitely see this as a leadership issue. Cody leading the team? Talk about awkward for his 'mates. The Darrell Scott and Josh Smith situations last year also had to have had an effect. More Toney Clemons and Coach Prince then please.

I have been getting the Vibe it's "us vs. the world" and that's not all bad. Perhaps they want to "show it to us Internet Scum"? Bring it boys. I'm sure everyone would LOVE to eat their words this year.

Who the **** are you and what the **** have you done with buffaholic?

Are these articles specifically designed to lower my expectations? How the **** does the coaching staff knowingly allow the team to be a 3 on the scale for 3 years? Only now do they realize that probably isn't a good idea?

It is worse - they said 4 years...

And how did they suddenly go from a 3 to a 15 in a single offseason? I'll believe that when I see it.

Nah, it won't just be spring dude. It'll be the most enthusiastic off-season ever!!!! And this is all we'll get to read about for 6 ****ing months.

This current head coach and staff with the exception of cabral are clueless. None of them should be coaching at this level. Our program is a circus. Hawk sucks.

didn't numb-nuts famously deflate an excited team before coming out for the CSU game last year? nuff said
