Utah QB signee attacks HS baseball coach......

"Obviously, it wasn't as good as it was a month ago, but I do feel really bad about what happened and it's a tragedy that it all had to turn out like that."

Tragedy, huh?

Oh yeah I totally forgot to post this when I read it in the local paper. The injuries weren't serious enough to warrant a felony charge or he'd be in really deep water. The kid is a moron, he was looking at being drafted pretty high, why he threw such a fit about being thrown off the team is beyond me.

Does anyone else have a problem with his conflict of interest? If I were a Ute fan, I'd be pissed. He praises them for standing by him during this, but there is a good chance he ditches UU once he is drafted. Doesn't seem like a schollie was worth wasting on this asshat.

As long as it is not CU wasting the schollie...

If he was a CU commit, I wouldn't be happy.

What will be really funny is if he doesn't get drafted very high due to this incident, and then Utah decides not to honor the schollie.

This kid sounds like he has some issues.

According to The Press-Enterprise of Riverside, the incident took place in a school conference room. Shreve, his parents, Redlands East Valley principal John Maloney and Cordes were all present. Shreve attacked Cordes after he informed the group of his decision to dismiss Shreve for not going to class and not respecting the coaching staff.

Whoooo Hoooooo. Hahahaahahahahahahahahaahah!!!! Whew! Hahahaahahahahahhaahahahahahah. The nerve to even suggest such a thing!

Very true, though if this happens when he is in college then our new rival UTAH will be lapping us in the Fulmer Cup.

They'll be lapping our balls. Utah is the new nebraska, but with mountains, hot chicks and nice people. You hear me UTAH???!!! Lap my balls!

Was everyone on this board so quick to turn on Lynn Katoa when he had his problems initially?
Did you give him a 2nd chance?
The UTE coaches are standing behind this guy until all the information comes out.
As a UTE, I will trust their judgement.

Some defended him some were pissed. The people that defended him (like me) were very wrong.

The story looks like pretty much open and shut case. Kicked off team/go on rampage/kicked out of school. Am I missing something?

Don't get me wrong Katoa was WRONG and got what he deserved. However I find it much more disturbing that some 18yr old kid would physically attack an adult authority figure because the kid had never been disciplined before!!! In front of his parents no less! I think the Utes would do well to pass on this guy!

jeez just because he doesn't go to class and wrestles with the coach - he probably jsut has "coachiing aversity behaviour disorder" and needs to be on ritalin. Double his scholly as he is behaviourly challenged!!!

Sweet! Are we "mixing it up" now?

A couple of points:

1. Fans aren't rational.

2. Katoa provided every indication that he was on the right track in his last year of high school. I'd argue there's evidence to suggest the contrary in this case.

3. Katoa was already a Buff when he had his problems. A lot of folks turned on him. Others wanted opportunity for redemption. He got his opportunity and pissed it away. At any rate, he was already a Buff.

4. Lawrence Philips. If you Utes from the U of U really want to be our rivals, get accustomed to hearing that name.

Truth be told that he lost potentially a ton of money the second the coach informed him he was kicked off the team. Baseball Scouts are not going to look too favorably on a guy who is kicked off his baseball team his senior year. It could even be a 7-figure type of event right there, depending if he may have been first round material. This kid is clearly your best pitcher so there had to have been some ongoing animosity and the frustrations may have been at a very high level. We don't know the whole story and it lies somewhere between the kid being a total spoiled brat and the coach being a total prick. I've seen both sides of these things.

Of course, attacking the coach made it a lot worse than being kicked off the team....
