He is free to do what he wants, but refusing to talk to the media because they treat his dad poorly does not look good. Also, I really wonder how much the Hawkins thought this all through (Cody signing with CU). They seem a bit blindsided by the treatment from fans and I am not sure why they would find this so shocking.

It doesn't bother me. When Baby Hawkins talks all I hear are the exact same words Daddy Hawkins says, anyway.

He needs to shut up and play ball and learn how to throw the ball to the correct team.

Oh, and **** you Mike Bohn for agreeing to continue the horse**** CSU game. The fact that the game is only going to be televised in 9 states and CU is going to make LESS MONEY this year just shows how ****ing stupid it was to renew this series.

No ****, the mtn. That's a joke. I try not to be negative about things, but seriously, the mtn?

This is shaping up to be a fun season.

On second thought, I really do not have a question with why Cody is not talking to the media, but why the heck is Plati actually giving that reason to the media? Saying something generic would have been better than that crap.

I can't blame him. Many, me included, have been hard on Papa Hawk. It comes with the territory. You pull down a mill a year and people actually expect results. Check that, positive results. DH has been a miserable failure at the helm. Fair or unfair CH is along for the ride.

OTOH, CH is supposed to be a great leader. He's what 22-23 y.o. now? Leadership means hiding in the face of adversity? He still gets a pass because he's a "kid"? I get he's pissed, he has a right to be it's his dad. But this chapter of CU football has been a monumental cluster, and if this keeps up we'll be lucky if CU's games are broadcast on public access. The sooner the Hawk era is over, the better IMO.

Plati definitely didn't do the Hawks any favors there. Makes them both look worse than they might already look.

True. They aren't even paying me and I can come up with something better than the wahhmbulance report. How about "Cody is focused on the upcoming season and his schoolwork, interviews are not available at this time."

the first couple-three years I'd say the Hawkins' received more than favorable, if not gruesome adulation in the local media. Dan was telling us we should listen to Van Morrison and the tales of the younger Hawkins at Boise was getting press here (!). Sorry, the free pass is over.

yeah, I'm also a little vexed on this Mtn thing. CU-CSU was a rivalry my friends from around nation who weren't CU or CSU fans used to enjoy. It was part of the opening week salvo of games and because of that drew national attention/audience. now, for on field and off field reasons it's relegated to a minor, regional network that's even below FCS on the pecking order. wha'happened?

Both teams descended into the lower realms of suckitude.....

Exactly who should we play? Toledo on national TV again? CU being on the MTN is due to their poor performance from the season before and nothing to do with the CSU series.. IF CU was halfway decent, ESPN or Fox sports would have picked it up..

Remember during the 'scandal' how Joel Klatt was out there, front and center, taking all questions and granting all interviews, no matter how difficult it was? Joel Klatt had more air time than Barnett and Tharp combined. He handled it all with class and professionalism.

Yeah, I remember that, too.

I'm sick of the whole Hawkins clan. Don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you...

That's because Joel Klatt was a leader.

Exactly. Sure, many people will think that he is not talking because his dad is the coach, but why would you remove any doubt? The PR from the CU AD can be baffling at times.

Better a HOME GAME against a NAIA team than a NEUTRAL SITE game with a team who would go 1-11 every year from here to eternity as long as their one victory came against CU, especially when the neutral site game is only televised on 42 televisions located in rural Colorado.

CU should ONLY go on the road for non-conference games that they KNOW are going to be nationally televised.

you really want to see Montana State and Eastern Washington going up against Dan Talkins again? The montana state game was more embarrassing than any loss to CSU this last decade.

Sure. They are HOME GAMES. If we are going to lose games, they might as well be in Boulder, where the University, the merchants, the citizens of Boulder, CU fans, etc. get to enjoy the atmosphere, the game, etc.

If the games aren't going to be on television because the team sucks, we might as well play AT HOME.

they cant pick it up. the mtn is the mwc tv deal

why did he do an interview with ESPN?

After I thought about this some, I think maybe it's a good sign Plati was straight forward about it. How pissed off would we be if they had given some BS reason when we knew the reason was because he was pissed that they are trashing his dad. He's really in a no win situation. If he takes the interviews and gets asked the questions you know they are going to ask (why do you guys suck, is your dad a ****ty coach, who should be the starting QB, etc?) he can either give the coach speak answer, which would piss everyone off, or he could give some other answer that would be bad for the team or the program. Eitehr way it sucks. Now, he refuses to be interviewed at all. People are pissed.

End of the day, CU starts winning these problems go away. CU doesn't start winning and the Hawkins are gone, these problems are irrelevant.

EDIT: I think the mistake here was giving an interview to ESPN but not the local rags. That's what makes CH look petty and weak. He should have either cut off all media requests or taken all media requests. Picking and choosing who you want to talk to is the BS move, IMO.

DH has handled the press poorly now for 2 years and this crying by Cody makes it worst.

It's Big12 football, Dad has a 7-figure guarrantee, and thus, the press can suck if they want to. The only thing more baffling than our play on the field has been how the AD believes the press and the intraweb is the enemy. I heard Bohn stay to a football staffer at a MBB game in January (I was eavesdropping the best I could):

"Mister Jones and Spond are killing us right now in the press. We REALLY need to get better at dealing with the press in all facets. It's killing us". It's time he does something about it, but I get the feeling he cannot compel the Hawkins' family to cooperate.

Winning would fix a lot of this. But I really have felt that for a few years now it's Hawkins vs. Ringo, much of the DP, and to a lesser extent, Patrick Ridgell. That's a war where I see no winners no matter the outcome.

Like everything else, it all comes down to 2010. If Hawkins wins on the field, it will all be good I suppose. If they burn again, he's gone, and the press will toast him all the way out the door.

The press handles Fairchild in Fort Collins much differently though. Probably the way Hawkins was handled at Boise State. "we feel lucky to have someone" attitude........

Look at the bright side, at least we wont have to listen to his bs excuses after he throws 50 times and 4 picks in a game. I have a bad feeling about who is gonna trot out against CSU. It's all about winning, I dont see why either Hawk is surprised by the treatment. Comes with the territory, cant handle it? Quit and we'll find someone else.
