AFA plans indoor facility with $5 million donation

The indoor training facility is slated for completion by early 2011. The 92,000 square-foot center will house a regulation-sized field that can accommodate football, lacrosse, and soccer, in addition to many other athletic activities. Cadet athletic development and performance will be enhanced through reduced weather delays, increased practice time, and improved replication of game conditions that the facility provides.

At this time, the Academy is the only service academy and one of only three institutions in the Mountain West Conference without a dedicated indoor training facility. Once completed, the facility will be among the best in the nation and is destined to become a landmark of private philanthropy as the largest privately-funded capital project in the Academy's history

Can the Academy name it after him? He deserves it then, but not sure if Federal facilities are that easy to name?

The basketball Arena is named after general John Clune who was the AD back in the 80s. Not sure about a private donor having their name on it. The baseball field and football stadium or Falcon Field and Falcon Stadium respectively. Personally I think the football stadium should be renamed for Fisher Deberry.

CU and Airforce are my two favorite college programs. CU by far is #1 but AFA is closing the gap every day. I might even look into going to more games this year at the academy.

do they stick with the MWC indoor practice facility guidelines and make it 70 yards?

The Academy is near and dear to me. Not nearly as much as CU, but they are a whole lot easier to want to support right now. Falcon Stadium is a great place to take in a game. The service Academy pageantry is second to none.

I agree. And CU will always be top for me but I usually only go to AFA games if CU isn't playing at all that day home or away. But if I didn't have a rooting interest in either team why should I spend my money in Boulder? I think Bohn needs to think about that question.

For some reason I want to say that it has to be done as an act (or memorial, or whatever it is called) that is passed by congress.

DeBerry's last couple of years might have tainted some of those votes, but eventually it might happen.

He is a really nice guy though, meet him a couple of times while working in CSprings, and his wife too. He doesn't even have to talk to communicate half of what he says.

AF games are great. Alot of fun to attend.

I thought that AF essentially had an indoor practice facility with the indoor track and field complex at the field house, but maybe that wasn't a full-size football field. Plus I'm sure they had to share that facility time with other AF sports teams and events.
