QBs live for Spring scrimmage

There were signs that Saturday’s game is being taken seriously. The black team practiced for about a half hour longer than its opponents, for example. But the decision to make the quarterbacks live — meaning they’re fair game for Sipili and every other defender to flatten when and if the opportunity arises — ought to keep things interesting.

:woot:

Timescall is the ****.

I'm not a big fan of this decision. I was hoping for a compromise. I've seen some teams put the flag football ribbons on the QBs so they still can have a live rush and an opportunity to elude it, but they don't risk getting a QB crushed in a meaningless scrimmage.

I don't know, mixed feelings here. It would suck to have a QB down with injury for a freaking spring game. How much do we gain by live QBs? They play with more urgency, we can seem them under pressure (literally and figuratively)?

Hansen and Hawkins should switch sides. A little voice is telling me having Sipili and Hansen on the same side would be a good thing.

Some of us make not like it, but the coaches need to see what it's going to be like in a game situation. The QB is given enough of a blanket and it may be too hard to tell who the best QB actually is. It'll also put serious pressure on the OL to make good blocks.

I like it.

This should give Hansen the upper hand in the competition for QB. With the pass rush from the GOLD team CH could be on his arse many a time.

Hope both come out healthy! But I do like going live, makes it more like game conditions and we always have Hirschman.:smile2:

Having them live without blitzing (hope this is not allowed) seems fine to me.

???

I don't know how we can distinguish our quarterbacks (if that is indeed an issue with the staff) without replicating real world conditions. In the real world, you get detstroyed by a blitzing linebacker from the blind side, you see white, you pick yourself up and go perform. But it's part of separating the QBs (again, if that's really an issue) in my opinon. But yes, there's risk.

The offensive line has enough issues (especially being split up between two teams) that I do not think it is worth putting your QBs at risk of unnecessary hits. I am sure there will be more than enough opportunities to see them evade pressure without blitzing. The last thing I want to see happen is Tyler going into the summer with an injury like last year.

That's a reasonable argument.

As long as its controlled live, it appears to be without blitzing, I think its good for them. I think they will get alot more out of it since it's live. We dont need the blitzing, we cant afford any of our qb's getting lit up.

Given the prevailing wisdom here... what is the risk? Sad to say, but we lose more than we win regardless which QB starts the game.

Good morning, Lt. Col. Sunshine!

Uhhhh... sorry... I'm sure that regardless who is the QB, we will do just fine. Everyone will be healthier for the experience today and the unicorns will be fruitful and multiply on this gloriously sunshiny day. :smile2:
