I hate NU More than Anyone.

I, like my distinguished colleague above, also despise the Huskers but you can't help but be floored by the sports science video in the linked article. He hits with 3200 lbs of force!!! That's just incredible.

CU has put lots of guys in the pros. Anyone know what the biggest gift back has been? I've lived out here since '91 and really haven't heard much in that area.

Roy Halladay gave $10,000 to Arvada West!

Chauncey donated $100K to CU basketball, I think.

I've never heard of any donations by former Buffs in the NFL.

$2 million to strength and conditioning program by one former player:smile2:

I find it hard to believe that CU could not raise the money for a buy out last year:wow:

nice gift...that will buy alot of HGH for the future players

guess all the other former "great" fuskers were a bunch of cheap bastards

Watson smiled as he recalled a conversation with former Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti, who played for Watson at CU in 1999 and coached against Martinez’s high school team in California.

“Mike called me up and said, ‘Wats, I’m telling you, this guy can play quarterback. Don’t let anybody tell you he can’t. He’s your kind of guy,’ ” Watson said.

Meaning?

“Mike saw the arm talent,” Watson said. “Everybody knew Taylor could run.”

So, Watson sees ample promise in Martinez’s passing. Intriguing, indeed.

“I like guys with athletic, fast releases, and I like competitors,” Watson said. “Taylor fits the profile.”

Martinez fit the Spring Game profile, for whatever that’s worth. Something tells me it’s worth a lot in Martinez’s case.

I may be daft, but what the heck does this have to do with the topic at hand????

the money was there, hawk was going to be fired after the NU regardless of outcome, it was a done deal. something happened the week leading up, and our "president" cut the balls off of our AD.

The "something happened" is that the CU officials realized that they were soon going before the Colorado State Legislature, hat in hand, begging for additional funds (or at least lesser cuts) to higher education funding, along with the other state schools. The potential political fall-out from CU football paying out another $3 mill to fire a coach when we were still paying off Barnett could not be ignored.

It didn't matter how the money was raised, or that it was private, not public. The point was: if CU could raise $3 mill privately during a financial crisis, then WTF were they doing begging the average taxpayer for more money? And it would have hurt ALL the state schools by association. so I'm afraid the regents, or whoever was the final decider, made a decision for the best of the school. Education still trumps football.

so the idea was shelved, and Hawkins got another year (at least.)

2.6 million? Seriously? A former player? WTF...More reason why we need to dump our coach and get someone who can rally the fanbase and players around the program.

i agree with everything you said, still doesn't make it right.

No, but it answers the mail. Alferd was responding to the accusation that our fanbase couldn't generate sufficient revenue to buy out our coach. That simply wasn't true (as you also noted).
