This would seem to imply that is old news:
The football program is expected to report a sub-standard score and a five scholarship penalty that was already served last year.

As for early practices the article actually sayd :Hawkins has decided to move practices to an early morning window between 6 and 10 a.m. next fall. So I'd assume not all of them are going to starting at 6am, but in general I like it, you'll sure as hell know who's been drinking and ****ing around.

making it up as we go along. Central Arkansas and UNC? woo!

basically, taking 8-10, maybe even 11 AM off the board is going to create class scheduling problems for student-athletes, I would think. that's a lot of class offerings/requirements to take off the board for a full semester vs. after 3 PM. You are going to have JRs and SRs who need one required class or a set of major required classes that are only offered, say, at 10 MWF. Those guys are screwed. this doesn't sound very well thought through, to me. because, let's say the staff decides they want to change things up....like they often do despite the Holy Formula we've been told about....now, all your kids are in class in the afternoon.

I actually agree with Mick in that it seems like more classes are offered between 8 - 12 than at other times.

If it is a purely APR move i think it is a bad one, although personally I passed only about 1/2 the classes I took before 10am.

This is what annoys me so very much about our football program these days. All we hear is about how great the team GPA is and how we are doing great. That stuff is front and center, it justifies Hawkins being kept around. But then a sub-standard APR that has actually has real consequences (five lost scholarships) is buried at the bottom of a news story. Stop treating the fans like we are complete idiots.

I'm remembering the K-State game last year watching players yawning on the sidelines. Even the announcers were mentioning how little energy there was on the sidelines. I vaguely remember sleep schedules being part of that.

CU struggles with any game played on the road at night. Have mercy if a bunch if games are moved to the late spot.

Hawkins and team seem at their best at Folsom during daylight hours (unless they are playing Mizzou).

Maybe if CU isn't on TV very much this year, they'll be able to schedule the games into Dan Hawkin's sweet spot: 1PM on Saturday.

CU's players have looked lathargic at times, so I'm not sure how this helps.

What annoys me is that the AD and the adminitards keep spouting the same pack of BS. Hawk is doing things the right way, the team was competitve last year, we're looking at the off the field successes. None of it is true, or maybe the better way to say it is, none of it is reason for applause. The simple fact of the matter is competitveness and anything approaching a semblance of pride in athletic accomplishment doesn't mean much to the powers that be. Either that or they couldn't cinch their girdles up tight enough to do the right thing. Then they get their panties in a bunch when the casual fan (who makes up a large sliver of CU's support) asks, "if the AD and admin. isn't committed why should I be?". Frankly, I am sick of the whole lot of them and will be glad when they are gone. I'll still be a proud alum and supporter, but I am sick of this crap.

Too bad the sweet spot ends about 1:45 PM.....

With the way we've played the past 2 years I'm surprised that we even "practiced" to begin with. Coach Talkins just trying to change the perception out there that he's a tough coach making these players wake up at 6AM, blah,blah...Oh Chip Kelly does it at Oregon, I should do it now and we'll be as good as Oregon coach Talkins probably thinks.. Please. I'm not buying any of it. It doesn't matter if you practice at the crack of dawn, afternoon or after midnight if you have incompetent head coach and his cronies running the practice. When you are a bad coach, you are a bad coach at every hour of the day..

I think it is a great move.

Not really. It is kind of the same stuff that hints of desperation. Why change the practice times - just because someone else did it and liked it? This must be one of the little things.

I'm not gunna criticize it just because it's a Hawkwins decision. There obviously needs to be some shakeups in the football program. If it works great.

call me not suprised ....

Am I the only one who thinks his coacing style is nothing more than trial and error?

How is this different than the annual change in the offensive scheme?

How do you go around lecturing that you know what you are doing then every year have all these random changes?

Good gawd, people. Just try to chill out until football season! Stop looking for negative **** in every nook and cranny. I think the APR thing and GPA thing are not related that much. I think the bad APR is for losing guys like Katoa who were not on track when they left. But I may be mistaken. The fact is, CU has about a 78% grad rate while Texas is around 48%. Why not bitch about the disparity in what the NCAA allows? Hey, I'm all for CU lowering its standards as much as they can if it'll help us win!

I am sorry but I find it comical to argue Hawk is this supposed builder of character and everything off the filed is hunky dory, so let's keep him because that outweighs his losing 2 out of three games over the last four years. Fact is, Hawk's players seem to have as much legal trouble as the last HC, and a sub-par APR must be in MB's mind, a sign of success. I don't blame Hawk for all the legal problems, or even the APR, but you have to admit, even the off the field stuff he's supposedly so good at is as mediocre as the on the field stuff. People are tired of the excuse train. The AD acted for some reason other than the vaunted off the field "success" and they won't own up to it. Honestly, I don't think they can, but many people get tired of the BS.

In all seriousness I can see why this might be good. Take a look at the early games we played last year (KSU, ISU, MU, aTm, WU, & NU), other than Wyoming we had terrible first halves. In the second half we woke up and made the game close, but it was almost always a too little too late.
This year I doubt many networks are going to be pushing to have CU play in the prime time slots, and since Bohn is a TV whore (Sunday night CSU to Friday night @ Toledo), I can see him adjusting CU’s schedule to have more morning games so that they can be on TV. I know we start the season with a nooner @ mile high. If the team can actually be awake for the first half we may actual win a few ball games.
Of course the reason they played bad in the first half may have been due to coaching and being ill prepared, and in the second half the game plan was out the window and the players were just playing to their natural ability

What a load of bull****. Sorry, but you want it both ways. You want to give credit to Hawkins for the high graduation rate and none of the blame for the low APR. I do not really care about practice times. I DO care about losing five scholarships, that is not just looking for negative ****.

I'm confused. I thought we were practicing really, really well. Especially on Tuesdays. I seem to remember "this week's practices were awesome" more than once. So, were they really not so "awesome"? If so, why tell us that? If not, why the change? Of all the things we've been told about this football program, the quality of their practices was supposed to be above reproach.

Maybe

Maybe it's a good thing. I know when I work out first thing in the morning I'm alert the rest of the day. I don't really care, just stop putting an embarrassing product on the field.

This^^^^ and why change the formula? This isn't Hawk's first rodeo, you know....

I don't get it...

I would "get it" if there was some evidence to necessitate this change along the lines of, "a recently completed research survey showed that mental retention and muscle memory was enhanced in males 18-25 between the hours of 6AM and 10AM more than any other time period during the day." But this seems to be another case (such as "We're gonna run downhill!" "We're going to run a spread hybrid!" "We're going to simplify the blocking plays for the O-Line" "We're going to have accountability groups!") of throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Ugh... why wasn't this coaching staff gone last year?
