Poll: Is Dan Hawkins capable of turning the football program around?

National championship by 2013. The kids just need to be loved up a bit.

Poll:

Do you have confidence in Skidmark to actually post a poll in this thread??

Maybe the Junta's code monkeys should get to work and figure out a way to merge the thread creation and the poll creation in a way that uses a single submit button...

I have confidence in Hawks ability to talk about taking care of the little things and going to lots of rodeos.

FIFY :smile2:

And you have a point, but still... 25 minutes to add the poll??? Pretty sad.... :sad1:

id say hes a lame duck... however he could get one more year if he does something special

I think last year was the time to prove himself. Everything was set up for a nice run in the North and we flopped. Part of me wants to believe that this team will step up....and I think we'll win some games at home but too much evidence over 4 seasons that we don't beat teams of equal talent that often and almost never on the road. That points to coaching, preparation, game planning and gameday. Crappy special teams play stands out as a screaming symptom about the staff, IMO.

Losing Spond and Mister Jones (2 in-state 4* guys) really hurts and took the heart out of the recruiting class IMO. everything feels downhill now.

No. That's 25 minutes between when the thread was created and the time stamp on my reply post. After creating the poll, I need a few seconds to read the responses, scratch myself, read a few new posts, and return.

Next time, I'll wait until after midnight to submit a poll to, just to keep the snarks down.

Back on topic. I voted for better than 50% chance CU has a winning season. The general opinion trails the reality of the situation around here.

I think it will be easier for Hawkins to win games with players who have been in his system than it will be for him to win back fans who he has managed to alienate. The players in the system have something to prove. We'll likely see some leadership on the field that has been in short supply. The coaching staff have their backs against the wall and are fighting for their very reputations. There won't be trips to Macchu Picchu this summer. The OLine, WR and QB will be the best we've had under DH. The DL and LB won't have that much of a drop off. RBs and the skills position on D aren't looking great, but who knows? Wins over CSU, Hawaii, Tortilla Tech, KU, Baylor, ISU, and Kjuco are possible, eventhough unexpected. The Buffs just might pull off a surprise win against Mizzou, Cal, or Neb. Only OU and UGA look like sure losses to me.

The guy reads Phil Jackson's book and John Wooden's book and thinks he's going to translate that into his own success. Maybe having his son on the team did him in. But I've been watching college football for thirty years and he's the weakest coach I've ever seen. There is not a wiff that the program has gotten better.

I don't think Dan is a bad HC, I just think he really surrounded himself with below average assistants, however the unwillingness to fire them is completely on him. Hopefully the next HC get's a higher salary pool for his assistants

I am a diehard Buff....I will be rooting for the team with every ounce of my being. But, I am also realistic. The chance of Hawk's success this year is just as likely as coach Mac coming back and returning us to relevance in the college football world.....

Run this ****er out on a rail. He has had his chance and has the worst winnig percentage in CU history. I am done and this is a throw away year. I know DBT, you do not want to hear it but Hawk is a lame duck kept around to save a few bucks and avoid a political situation. He is a lost cause. I renewed my tickets and will travel to Cal but I cannot wait till he is fired. I am so tired of his line of crap it makes me want to puke! Also had a ton to drink this afternoon and it may have an impact on the overall attitude of this post. **** the Hawk!

WTF....Jimmy, was that an intentional vote? Must be a mistake, or a cruel joke.

I am with you on this.

I will say though that WORST thing that can happen is that he goes mike stoops on us and wins 8 games, that'll buy him 2 years and set us back 4.

I take the opposite view. I think people like Cabral, Kiseau and Brown are very good coaches who could coach anywhere. (Obviously with Brown) Hawkins is an incompetent moron who is unable to admit his own shortcomings and is quick to blame everybody but himself for his failures.

It's now or never for Dan. In a lot of respects, there's reason to be optimistic. Lots of returning players; some (not a lot) really good players.

The last two years were doomed by the kicking game and special teams play. I've never seen a team deflated more frequently by missed field goals and bad punts. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the kicking game is going to be any better this year, which is cause for real concern.

If the Buffs can make 45-yard and shorter field goals at the national average and get 40-yards/punt, this team should win 7 or 8 games; if we get the same crap kicking as the last couple of years, we'll be lucky to win 5.

I totally agree that the missed field goals and bad punts were a game deflator.

I'm not predicting anything. Just saying we have at least 3 new guys on kicking and punting, albeit same "coaching." The results may not be Crosby-ish, but they should be different than past years. The spring game, with a single attempt per kicker, is simply not a good barometer of what the season may bring.
