8 regular season wins. 2-0 vs CSU and Hawaii is a must. A big Big 12 road win (Nebraska, Missouri, or Oklahoma) is a must. The only other "must win" games are Baylor and Iowa State at home. Shouldn't need to be said, but we have to nowadays.

8 - 4 is good enough to give him another year. 9 - 3, keep him for sure. 7 - 6, uh i dunno he better have beaten csu and nu and better win his bowl game if he plans to stick around.

Don't care how many games he wins. I want him gone. I he wins a NC, I'll be the happiest man on earth, but will still want a different coach.

I wish you hadn't grouped the poll like you did. 7-5 isn't enough for me, but 8-4 is. At least that's what I think right now. Is there a chance I'd be ok with Hawk if he went 2-2 in the non-conference (with a convincing win over CSU) and then went 5-3 in the Big 12 (with a convincing season-ending win at Nebraska)? Probably a good chance I'd change my tune, actually. But right now I want at least 8-4.

Where's the "Extend his contract, regardless" option?

I agree with you. If he is to stay oafter seven wins, there will have to be a marked improvement in recruiting, for one thing. Also, they had better be competitive in the losses. Otherwise, I think he needs eight wins.

7 wins isn't enough for me. 8 is. If he pulls 8 wins out of his ass this year I'll be shocked, but pleasantly surprised.

Agree! Nothing he can do will win me over. We have seen who he is and what his football mind is capable of. No amount of wins can correct what has already happened.

I can't believe how many of you are ready to jump back on the Hawk train. I guess it has been 6 months or so since the end of last season's disaster and it isn't fresh in your minds... Pretty sad!

??? What's sad about it? If the team wins, I'm good with it.

In your post right before this one you said that we have seen who he is and what his football mind is capable of.

Do you think a Hawkins-coached team is capable of winning 10 games? Capable of winning a conference title?

If not, that says to me that there is something he could achieve this season that would prove you wrong. That would necessarily mean you'd need to re-evaluate your opinion of him, right?

That's all people are saying: that there is a certain level of success that would make us say we didn't know what we thought we knew... and that a lot of the stuff Hawk has said that we've written off as lame excuses or utter B.S. all of a sudden would look like it had some validity.

And for the record, Hawk's won 10+ games in a season 4 times in his 14 years as a head coach. He's won his conference title in 7 out of 14 years as a head coach.

I want CU to be the first University to fire their coach after winning a BCS Bowl game. This guy hasn't just lost games, he has not taken blame or responsibility. He has repeatedly said we are practicing well while dropping turds on the field the Saturday [before and] after. He has thrown the fans under the bus on multiple occasions. I don't want him here.

I have no idea how to answer this poll.

There is a disconnect. Success on the field had been decoupled from retention.

Seems like Benson and Joe Blow Colorado tax payer are indifferent at best when it comes to showing any commitment to building a powerhouse. The CUAD is a lapdog of Benson/DiStephano and has been reduced to encouraging fan unity in the absence of change.

9 regular season wins. And no more of this "we're banking on an incredible January to save our recruiting class" nonsense. There better be a nice collection of talent committed at the end of the season.

The recruiting class should not be a priority for Dan at this point. He needs to win with the talent he has now.

put me in the camp that does not care how much he wins. been round and round on this. from where i sit, he has managed to take all the fun out of it for me. his endless pumping up of expectations (for lack of a better word) and less than average performance on gameday. CU football is just no fun anymore. we know what we are going to see. little to no imporvement year over year, game to game, quarter to quarter. it would just be nice to see a better team week one than week two. week 12 over week one. a complete game even. or, build on success. a very good 3rd quarter leads to a great 4th quarter and a great game the next week. something.

so i guess if he were to produce a 9 win season, he would be doing those thing and merit another season. however, less than that would be 4 losses. most likely that would be losses to Cal, UGA, OU and Knu. beating ewe, hawaii, baylor, TT, kansas, ISU and KSU should be givens this year. so, that means no raising of the bar. no win over Knu. or beat knu and lose to one of the others. thats not acceptable. not from where i sit. CU, in hawks 5th year with the talent that has been recurited should be able to be on par with UGA and Cal, have a more than reasonable chance at knu and stay respectable vs OU. take one win out of those 4 in his 5th year is not unreasonable.

if hawk does get 9 wins, i guess i dont have much to bitch about then if he stays. the team will have had to show improvment, won one of the 4 games needed and it will be a solid step in the right direction. for once.

that being said, reality says that if hawk goes 8-4, he stays. period. see what happens in '11. 100% that will be the case next fall if it happens.

my confidence that will happen is about zero. me thinks that it will be an easy decision come november and he will be gone.

For the record, hawk has 4 staright losing seasons at....CU. What he did at boise means nothing here, nothing. 8-9 WINS and that includes a decent recruiting class. I actually want him gone no matter what but i'm in a good mood.

I believe Hawk needs a winning season to be back. I could possibly see winning CSU, Hawaii, ISU, KSU, KS, Baylor...that's five wins. However, he needs 2 more from Georgia, at Cal, at Mizz, Tejas Tech, at Oklahoma, and at Nebraska. There might be 1 win there, but not two. If we had the QB position settled, we could be a surprise team, but we just don't have the talent there to win. Period. The day Hawk inked his son to an LOI doomed his tenure at CU.

Yeah, I think this CU team is capable of winning a lot of games and if they do it will be 100% in spite of what our coach does for it.

I don't care what the guy does from here on out. I know his time will end at CU with him being fired. The sooner this happens the better for CU since no one any good is going to come to CU with a coach that will be fired in the next year or two.

:yeahthat:

It's fairly easy to pick out 7 winnable games that would make for a very pedestrian 7-5 season - CSU, Hawaii, Baylor, TT, ISU, KSU, and KU. These are all games we should be winning most of the time anyway unless you're just another ISU or Baylor.

Regardless of how many games we win this year I still won't like him.

Wait, how many games he needs to win for the administration to want keep him? or how many wins for me to want him to stay around? Two different questions.

I think if he gets 7 the AD keeps him, even though, as it has been pointed out in this thread, the 7 wins would likely come against questionable teams and wouldn't necessarily indicate real improvement from our buffs.

For me personnally, I'm with Rugged. If he wins the NC I still want him gone. I have no faith in him anymore. He cannot coach at this level and I'm convinced that any success we acheive this year will be due to his assistant's football prowess and they will all immediately leave for better opportunities if we have a rebound season (9+ wins). It's lose lose with Hawk at the helm IMHO.

The recruiting class should not be a priority for Dan at this point. He needs to win with the talent he has now.

It goes hand in hand with the future of the program though. Having a winning season in 2010 means jack **** if we are sitting here next February talking about another subpar recruiting class (third in a row).
