Do you want to see the CU AD in financial crisis?

Do you want to see financial crisis in the CU AD in order to force a coaching change?

  • Yes. Only way they'll replace Hawkins.

  • Yes. It's what they deserve and I'm not sure they'll get me back.

  • No. Only way we'll get good coaches is if we can pay for them.

  • No. Conference deal pays for football. This just punishes other sports.

Poll is admittedly incomplete. I realize there are a host of reasons and that it maybe should have been just "Yes", "No", or "Indifferent". Just choose whichever best applies to you and post an explanation.

No, of course not. On the other hand, it's awfully hard to pay premium prices for a product that is poor, and one that the purveyor appears to have no interest in improving.

 No way I'd ever want to see this regardless of how bad we may suck. If we don't have money to pay for a tier 1 football coach now and a permanent indoor practice facility how would this ever help us get to a point were we could? Every time there is a story in the Denver Post or Daily Camera about CU budget woes, there is always a litany of people trying to blame the athletic dept. for it. There is already a section of the population in colorado that wants CU to drop athletics and while I know this would probably never happen, something like this would only add fuel to the fire and make any progress boosters and fans want to make just that more difficult. Good luck trying to get buy in on capital improvements to the facilities and upgrade coaching staff if this were the case. People are still bitching about the GB buyout.

I don't WANT to see them have financial issues, but it's the only voice I have that actually means something to them.

Of course not. However, watching severe football-driven budget woes would be (is) oddly satisfying. I'm sorry, but I can reconcile the gap in logic.

I want to see it only to the degree that I like to be proven right. I don't like it if I say "keeping Hawk will cost you more than firing him", and that turns out to be incorrect.

Absolutely not. I want Hawk to win 10 games a year, every year, forever and never get fired. And I want the school to make loads and loads of money.

I don't understand rooting for financial woes, just like I can't fathom rooting for the team to lose so we can fire a coach.

I root for wins.

Reptastic.

:wow: god help us all.

Nik, Nik, Nik. You must do better than this. Anyone who votes for either of the "Yes" questions is either a fusker or, well, they are a fusker.

I thought that a good number of people had said they don't believe that CU will fire Hawkins and pay the buyout no matter how badly we do this year... unless CU sees that they're losing so much money that they're forced into the decision. I actually don't have a problem with that. It worked like a charm for Louisville. Kragthorpe got canned a year later than the fans wanted him gone (after a season of a mostly empty stadium) and it resulted in them being able to hire Charlie Strong and pull in a surprisingly good recruiting class.

I disagree with the approach, but I would understand if there was a will among CU fans to follow the same path. I'm pretty surprised by the voting results, actually.

If that is what it takes, then yes, bring on the financial crisis... Only thing is the longer we keep Hawkins around the farther the CU AD will dip into this financial crisis and the longer it will take to get out of it.

Seems to me the easiest way to get out of it is to get rid of the current staff, get some people in here who can win and draw up support and we doing fine.

EB would do wonders for this program right now and will come cheaper than any big name coach who will polarize alot of folks... Other than a few racists I don't see him being a polarizing type guy at all and we know he will be able to get a ton of support. Give him a shot and 3-4 years without extending him.

You are one sick, demented puppy. :smile2:

If Hawkins doesn't get it done this year, he will not get another chance, guaranteed.

i think what Nik was trying to identify was the idea that as long as the AD is financially buoyant, then even the football losing year after year after year after....and this year...there is a Big Picture Bohn and Co. can point to whether it's cloaked in the new narrative of "doing it the right way" or "scholar athletes come first at CU"....that you can bracket off the football losing as separate from the whole. a boo boo on the healthy body.

if the AD hemorrhages money into the red, then everyone can see the whole thing is putrid from the top-down. which means, that in order for people/fans/alums/boosters to want to bring the whole shooting match into question or lop off the King's head (Bohn), it might take some financial crisis. this: staged as a dilemma per Nik....not an advocacy.

If the AD is making money, Bohn stays. the former is enough for some people, probably not for the more rabid fans who remember Eddie C and Mac.

I get it. I just think the idea that the school doesn't care about results as long as they are making money is ridiculous. At any rate, they know that if they keep losing, they will also lose money. So, it all comes down to money one way or the other. But I'm sure they'd want to correct things BEFORE they start taking financial hits, no until.

sure. but, the argument hangs on the idea of whether or not Hawkins has shown that he's the guy to put W's on the field. Not a lot of evidence for that right now. Less this off-season than any other, IMO. Last year, there were good arguments one could make that the team would be improved and had a schedule (home against North rivals) favorable enough to make a little noise in conference. #1 HS RB in the country lining up in a new "down hill run game"....another 5 star CO kid who de-committed from the reigning national champs. Instead, 3-9. You can point to experience and depth as about the only thing that differentiates this season from others. and to keep symmetrical: Hawk loses two local 4 star kids who were committed. Will depth and experience be enough? I don't know. We've certainly all been told that youth was a big factor since Day 1 of the Man with the Boise Playbook.

Point being: if the AD and CU want to correct things BEFORE the financial hits....to most people enthusiastic about CU football, that meant canning Hawk last year. So, I'm phrasing arguments here not advocating, there is some evidence that one can point to criteria more important than winning that includes money (AD tends to act like your money is their money by birth at times under Bohn)....or this newfangled narrative about Hawk not having a mandate to win (BS) or "doing it the right way". All the latter are default, de facto rationalizations of 16-33.

The key thing moving forward, is which logic prevails? the rationalizations or doing what it takes to Win.

I think the fundamental issue for many fans is what constitutes "getting it done" for the AD. No one is quite sure, given the bizarre comments and subsequent spin after Hawkins was retained.

Well, duh. "Doing it the right way" is the measuring stick. Too bad we have some kids in trouble already this year. Combine that with another losing record and they won't have a leg to stand on.
