I know I have been pissing some of you guys off about CU going to the MWC instead of the Pac-10. One thought crossed my mind:

Suppose UT just can't pass up the $$$ in the Pac-10 and takes the South teams with them anyway. NU and MU don't get the Big 10 invites. Could the MWC's Gang of Five (AFA, CSU, Wyoming, Utah, BYU), New Mexico, and the North schools merge to form a new Big 12? It might not have the money to begin with but could grow to be a great conference over time.

I'm beginning to like the MWC-16 idea as well. The four other schools would be Boise State, TCU, UNLV, and SDSU. The entire west save for Oregon and Washington state would be covered but I believe BSU's success has carved out a presence in Oregon and Washington state. I have been personally to BSU's stadium and took home a few plastic blue grass shards for the heck of it and the state of Oregon and Washington are very close to Boise so the entire west would be covered in this situation...who knows about Montana in that regard?

Attendance at CU home games would definetly go up and the question (I asked this in a seperate thread) is that how much money does those conference payouts count when it comes to the total revenues of CU's athlethic department?

**** off!

Don't know how attendance will go up. Who would you rather see at Folsom... Okie State and A&M, or San Diego St and Wyoming?

We would have to schedule well out-of-conference, meaning at least 2-3 BCS teams every year, in order to make up for lost conference game attendance.

That could be the dumbest idea I have heard yet.

Well not the dumbest, but its definatly up there

I like the idea, Nashie!

I think CU can be a big influential fish in a smaller pond versus being irrelevant in an ocean.

Which would you rather win a medal in- the Special Olympics or the real Olympics?

So while the Pac 16 and Big 10 is making 20 million per team, the MWC would be making what...10 million per team (if we're lucky). We would fall farther and farther behind and would never catch up.

The attendance argument is completely lost on me, why would attendance improve for MWC competition versus USC, Oregon, Cal, etc.

With the CU administration supporting athletics the way it is, we will be the same level regardless of what class we are, so just because we go to a weak conference doesnt mean we will dominate, our recruiting will suffer, thus putting us at the same place as all those other ass clowns (CSU). Get in the best conference you can to make the most money, then the rest is us to your coaching and support staff. The PAC-10, Big-12, Big-10 are not too good of a conference for us at all, CU is on par with every other school there.

I'd rather win a medal in the real Olympics, but I am aware that I am a ****ty athlete and that is not possible.

We have scheduled well out of conference in the past so it can be done again. I won't be shocked if NU does try to schedule us out of conference in this situation and we could get some Big 10 contests as well because I don't think CU would be wanting to do such games with the Pac-16 for awhile. We can play against the SEC as we have done just recently.

And suppose we knock those schools off and win the MWC...we could end up in the BCS title game. BSU is being rated very high this year and could pull the non-BCS MNC off this coming season. Even if we were 12-1 in the Big 12, we still might not even get a shot at the BCS title. I'd rather see CU win another national title going UNDEFEATED.

Apparently the new plan is to give up on getting CU fans to buy tickets and just depend on visiting fans for sellouts...

It takes TWO to TANGO!

Sounds like a great idea, why dont we schedule a game with Boulder High while your at it?

But seriously, why would someone from a good conference want to play us if we are in a ****ty conference and have a possiblity of beating them, yea thats right they wont, they will want to play us if we are in a good conference, or they are pretty sure they can beat us.

Let's see how your theory sticks up if Boise State takes home the crystal football. You win, the recruits will come. You suck, the recruits go elsewhere. CU's campus really does sell itself to recruits right?

Consider the fact that the BCS might not be around by the time CU would accomplish that? That is a real possibility if the mega-conferences are built...leaving the have-nots out of the picture. What does that do to your thought process?

Sorry Nash but 12-1 in a Pac 16 is a hell of a lot better than 13-0 in a bastardized MWC. See: Boise, Cincinatti, TCU, Utah - none made a title game.

Teams in those Super Conferences would really beat up on each other so they would lighten up their non conference slates and that is where CU can schedule those non-conference games.

And would the CU adminstration allow CU to be part of a semi-pro college football system?

Anyone forget how Auburn was robbed of a national championship? 12-1 in the Pac-16 will not guarantee a spot in the BCS title game like a 12-1 or even a 10-2 SEC team.

No one knows for sure if the expanded Big 10 will get the same kind of treatment that the SEC gets when it comes to those situations.

Exactly Lighten Up their non-Conference games, thus you are sayign that CU will suck, so why dont we invite some of the big boys to come whip up on us, this sounds like a much better idea then being in a good conference.

I will say it again, this should not be even talked about its about as dumb of a idea as it comes, and the day it happens is the day I will move out of Colorado

Wrong, if Boise ever wins a title (still waiting for it to happen), Peterson will be off to a Pac 16 school who will be able to afford to pay him 5 million a year thanks to their lucrative TV network, where does that leave Boise and their recruits?

I think you are vastly underestimating what the money involved can do for a program.

f*ck you you piece of sh*t douchebag.

Let's assume that the Big 12 South goes away leaving the Big 12 North to fend for itself. Here are the media markets we serve:

Colorado (#16 Denver)
Missouri (#21 St. Louis)
Kansas (#32 Kansas City)
Kansas State (#69 Wichita-Hutchinson)
Iowa State (#72 Des Moines-Ames)
Nebraska (#76 Omaha)

Plus some additional coverage in #74 Springfield, #88 Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Iowa City-Dubuque, #92 Colorado Springs-Pueblo, and #105 Lincoln-Hastings-Kearney, among others.

That's not enough. Only way we'll make enough money to stay competitive is if we increase our media footprint while adding teams that increase conference prestige by winning and competing for championships.

This means the list of candidates is pretty small:

Utah (#31 SLC), BYU (#31 SLC + international), TCU (#5 DFW), New Mexico (#44 Albuquerque-Santa Fe), UNLV (#42 Las Vegas) and San Diego State (#28 San Diego) would be the 6 I'd pick. Is it ideal? Far from it. But it would be a conference that could win and command a decent media contract.

Western Division:
BYU
Utah
UNLV
San Diego State
Colorado
New Mexico

Eastern Division:
Nebraska
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Missouri
TCU

Edit: You could also go to 14 with Houston (#5 Houston) in the East and Fresno State (#55 Fresno-Visalia) in the West. There are also decent options out there to take it to 16.

After seeing Dan Hawkins fail at CU...do you think BSU's Peterson will take a job at any Pac-16 school not named Texas, USC, Oregon, etc? I have relatives in the Boise area and they say that Petersen isn't that stupid. Have you forgotten that BSU has built a luxury suite section above Bronco Stadium? Those suites went a long way in raising Petersen's salary at BSU and I won't be shocked if it is higher than what CU is paying Hawkins.

By that thinking, Frenso State's Pat Hill should have been gone off to a Pac-10 school a long time ago but it didn't happen.

Is this really necessary when it's just a fellow Buff presenting a different point of view? Disagreement is fine, but this? Come on now.

Thank you OKCBuff.

Again, I will want what is best for CU. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. If I end up being right, then great for CU!

The question we have all failed to ask ourselves would be that would those Pac-8 fans make the trek to Boulder?

It takes TWO to TANGO!

No it doesn't. Most programs tango just fine without relying on enemy fans to fill their stadiums. CU needs to focus on getting good enough to fill Folsom with CU fans (which, honestly, they aren't that far from, it's just taken a buttload of discounts lately), putting a quality team on the field and being competitive in a real conference. Don't be afraid of Cal or Oregon, embrace the opportunity to play them competitively and get 50,000 + CU fans into Folsom. It's not impossible. It's been done. And it's a much better path than giving up and whoring ourselves out to New Mexico and Wyoming fans for a few ticket sales and a relatively pathetic television contract.

I would love for NU to think that way and then laugh at them after CU stuns NU in Lincoln.
