Why is the SEC so quiet?

They are supposedly the king of college football. Why aren't they making some noise to try to enhance their profile? I have heard that UTexas is not as interested in the SEC because of academics, but still, the others might be.

Perhaps the SEC is content with expanding closer to home (i.e. raiding regional ACC and Big East schools). But despite this, it wouldn't be bad to at least pretend like you are a major player.

The SEC does have choices in this situation. Out of the Big 12, they have A&M, OSU, and OU on thier hit list. If those three do come along, maybe UT will have to swallow their pride and go to the SEC.

Georgia Tech can move to the Georgia Dome if their 55K seat stadium isn't big enough. They are a legit Big 10 canadiate since they just got AAU status and they are in Atlanta where not only there are a bunch of TV spots but corporate $$$ as well with Coke and Home Depot to begin with.

I went to college in DC and I felt that Clemson was more of a SEC program than an ACC program so Clemson to the SEC makes sense.

Louisville could and should be considered to give UK a rival in that conference.

You could rationalize that with Arkansas and A&M.

If the SEC decides to expand they'd go after much bigger fish than Louisville. As for Clemson, they couldn't be more SEC-like if they tried. Actually I guess they could be more SEC-like - they could average 90K per home game instead of "only" 80K per home game. :smile2:

One thought down here is that UT will end up in the SEC. This PAC-16 talk will never come to fruition....

I don't see that. UT wants nothing to do with the SEC. Although they would be allowed to have their Longhorn Network since i saw the SEC doesn't have a problem with schools having their own networks.

I still think they want the Big 12 to keep chugging along.

Agreed....they really want to keep things status quo (assuming they can wait out a new TV contract). They are the big fish now. The PAC-16 and the SEC (especially) lessens their power.

As an SEC guy, it seems everyone around here is waiting to see how it plays out. Slive won't allow the conference to be overshadowed. There are quite a few schools in the east that want to be in the SEC (Va Tech, Clemson, FSU, Miami, Louisville, West VA) to name a few. In addition, OU and perhaps A&M and OSU would be prime targets for westward expansion.

It's simple: they don't need to concern themselves with this nonsense.

This. The SEC has no worries about losing any team and they have had (without thinking or looking back) I think 6 of the last 8 National Champions, they are good to go for a long time.
