Idaho Statesman: BSU and CU discussed at MWC meetings

They are foolish to not invite Boise State immediately.

Things get real crazy in the next 30 days and they might lose TCU, Utah, BYU, New Mexico, and/or CSU/Wyoming to any number of variables.

Even if they are reserving spots for CU, KSU, KU, Iowa State, or Baylor; inviting Boise State still gets them to 16 teams and improves their Auto-Bid status (something none of the others truly do).

If this whole thing comes to fruition with 6 Big 12 teams going to the Pac and 1 or 2 going to the Big 10, then does what's left of the Big 12 take some of the MWC teams or vice versa? That's the question.

Call it what you will, but the MWC and Big12 leftovers would merge quickly and hope to keep BCS affiliation. Really, the MWC is waiting to see if it exists. The Big 12 will exist, although it may have to add 12 teams....

Iowa State, Baylor, KSU, KU plus......
8-12 others (likely 12).

The sure bets might include
TCU
Houston
CSU
Utah
BYU

and then a host of MWC, WAC, MAC, etc vying for BCS affiliation/validation....

I'd remove CSWho and Houston from that list of "sure bets".

I believe Kansas will be setup with an SEC expansion invite provided they can rid themselves of kjsu. Then the SEC can take Miami, Va Tech and FSU from ACC.

MWC is like everyone else right now, just waiting for someone else to make a move. Unlike the big boys though, they have to sit and wait.

But KU isn't nearly the big addition that UT would be.

The SEC isn't gonna bring in a school just because they're a good hoops school.

Don't be so sure.. Kansas will find a home in an expansion SEC or in the Big East.. Its uneasy times now, but I think they will find a good home..

holy ****... for the first time in history... i actually agree with jimmy

 You are coming around now..

CU is ****ed without the Pac 10.. No other league is viable other than the Mountain Trash ****off and Die Conference because of location. Kansas will pimp themselves out once they get rid of KjSU. Geography will help them get somewhere.

Some of the **** that Baylor big shots are saying are true about the CU athletic department.. Its a joke although Baylor is a joke too.. Keeping Talkins just further illustrates that the administration doesn't give a **** about sports.

Academics, location, possible TV market and scenery is all what we are selling. All great things but not a must for the Pac 10 and they mean nothing to conferences that are east of the Mississippi River.

I'm not concerned we are going to get left out but looking at it realistically we aren't a shoo-in either.

:yeahthat:

The SEC doesn't give a **** about hoops, with one exception. And I think the Cats are probably more likely to vote against adding another great bball school than to vote to bring them in. KU's hoops dominated AD might just work against them with the SEC, not for them...

However, they are starting to show some aptitude for cheating, so that might be in their favor... :smile2:

Football is king in the SEC but to say they don't care about hoops is absurd. The SEC has been down for a few years but if you look at money and facilities invested in for basketball, they are right up there at the top.

As far as KU to the SEC. It could happen, but a few things would have to happen first. If westward expansion occurs it will probably be OU and A&M getting first dibs. However, if they are both gone to a PAC 16 then perhaps KU might be given a chance. Or they add four teams out east (Clemson, VA Tech, FSU, Miami, WVU, Louisville... four of those) and shuffle two teams to the western division (Tennessee and maybe Kentucky)

KU to the SEC is a pipe dream.

For now.. You guys ****ting on Kansas must not be aware that they have a plus 70 million dollar athletic budget.. If the SEC decides to expand to match the Pac 16, it will look at Kansas if they are available..

I agree with this, but yeah that would be if the Big 12 South teams go to the PAC 16. There are a few schools that would get a shot before KU, but it would be on the list if the SEC expanded West.

I agree with that.. I can definitely see SEC grab a Va Tech and the two florida schools (miami and fsu) for football reasons and add in Kansas for the basketball.. Or if they don't care about Miami they could reach up North for a Pitt or something to expand in Penn. I don't think Clemson and GT Tech will be viable. (Georgia and South Carolina would oppose)

I see the leftovers from the Big East merging with the ACC just to survive.

I am not ****ting on Kansas, but they are a bad fit for the SEC. The SEC can be a lot more selective about who they go after, if they even go after anyone. They have several ready-made candidates already in SEC country that would be better cultural fits and play to natural rivalries.

It's very possible. But you won't see anything from the SEC until all the Big 10 and PAC 10 stuff goes down. Once that happens dominos will start falling. I also can see the SEC pulling those teams and the ACC and Big East merging (this is assuming Big 10 goes to 16 teams and pulls a few Big East schools)

It will be interesting what UNC will do once the ACC starts to collapse.. Will they hold onto their ACC loyalty or jump ship to the SEC?

SEC adding a Va Tech, FSU, UNC and Kansas would be dynamic additions for both sports..

Maybe.. if they want to expand West, they don't have a lot of choices if OU, UT and aggy leave for the Pac 16..

If the SEC is going to go after UNC, why would they bother with Kansas? They are a great basketball school, but you know Kentucky is going to say something about adding both UNC and Kansas. And let's be honest Jimmy, Kansas is not a "dynamic" addition for SEC football, it would purely be for basketball because they would be very low on the totem pole in football.

You greatly underestimate cultural fit and its importance to the SEC.

yeah I agree with that.. I don't think the SEC really wants to expand but if they have to they will make strategic choices just like Kramer did when he added two schools in 2 new markets in 1990 with Arkansas and USC. I don't think they can afford to leave FSU on the table but I'm not sure they would be excited about a Miami addition..

Kansas and UNC = dynamic for SEC basketball
Va Tech and FSU= dynamic for SEC football.

I know Kansas sucks at football. The Bama's, Auburn's, Ark, LSU wouldn't mind that at all since they can chalk up a victory every year. Kentucky would probably love to have a couple of basketball programs in their league.. They usually play those two in the nonconference every year anyway so I don't see it as a problem.

The SEC would love to add UNC, but I'm just not sure I see it happening. If they were interested though they would get the first invite in an expanded league.

UNC would have similar problem that Texas has.. The other 3 would want to leech off of them to anyway they would go. Breaking away would be tough so I can see them merging with a Big East combination of teams..

Boy, I guess anything could happen, but UNC is a hoops school first and I doubt they'd want to be in a football-first conference. UNC, along with Duke, Wake and NC State, are the heart of the ACC, a basketball-first league. I just don't see the Carolina schools as an option.
