The Oklahoma State Cowboys are blazing a trail to the Pacific-10 Conference ... according to a source -- and leaving the future of the Big 12 Conference in serious jeopardy.

A source in the OK State athletic department tells TMZ Sports the move is a "done deal." The Pac-10 just made it official that Colorado is also jumping off the Big 12 ship.

We're told it's "just a matter of time" before the OK State announcement is also made. It's been rumored that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M will also join the new super conference. Nebraska, it's widely believed, will go to the Big 10.

As for why this is all going down -- our source says "everyone wants a playoff system ... and this is the first step toward doing it."

Brilliant. If baylor had any shot..it would be totally gone.

TMZ Sports? Is this affiliated with the show?

If it is, I think I'll believe what Chip Brown says before believing anything from TMZ!

I wonder if the invite to OSU, OU, Tech and A&M is an all-or-nothing deal, where either they all come in - with UT - or only UT gets the invite. If so, that means a lot of politicking amongst those five schools. Getting all five to agree that going to the Pac is good for them won't be easy. And I still think that the Pac is leery of bringing in all that drama.

does this mean that OU and OSU are de-coupled as in OU is listening to the SEC?

I have to think it means OU is also going to the Pac-10. I really can't see why OSU would jump first and risk OU going elsewhere, unless they knew OU was going west too, or they knew that they had no shot at the SEC, I guess.

you are probably right, and OU's AD said that OU would stay with Texas since they had a "special relationship" or "history" or something....but, according to the OKC newspaper article i read that OSU-OU was a package because OSU legislators were threatening to brake funding for OU if they jumped ship leaving OSU high and dry (in the new missouri valley or something) but if they have a Pac offer (without OU? seems unlikely but...) then maybe the package/threat is null.

This sucks! BOOOOOOO!! Being in the division with any of those southern Big12 hicks is not good.

Still hoping it is just Utah!

IF this is true, is it a coincidence that the first two teams in are the two teams most likely to be targeted by a strongarm pro-Baylor campaign by the Texass legislature??

are you sure about that? i get the feeling from you that you secretly like being in the big12 south now.

Hey buffedup watch out----Twitter source reporting this TMZ article is false.

Tweets are coming in...I saw on other boards that T. Boone Pickens said "we are in"

PAC-16 here we come!

Weird, if true. Such an unlikely fit in my opinion. I'm not talking about the athletic program so much as the geographic location and the town.

T Boone said something along the lines of "it cost us a lot but we are in" I wonder if the pac10 placed some sort of research funding requirement on OSU as a hurdle to getting in?
